context is cool

25 total positive tests so far out of 351 players since testing began
10 positives out of 884 team employees

call all destroyer, Thursday, 2 July 2020 17:37 (three years ago) link

seems like overkill but ok

The NBA had teams send their actual courts to Orlando and is installing them to use as practice spaces.

i dunno man, this has more than a whiff of hubris about it
i mean i will watch and all but

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 2 July 2020 18:12 (three years ago) link

no, hubris is mlb thinking it's going to be able to play in-market games three weeks from now

call all destroyer, Thursday, 2 July 2020 18:15 (three years ago) link

baseball existing in 2020 is hubris imo but what do i know

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 2 July 2020 18:21 (three years ago) link

haha fair point

The context is 25 players have tested positive in the last week

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 2 July 2020 18:34 (three years ago) link

i'm already pretty checked out now regardless of whether any of this stuff happens

ciderpress, Thursday, 2 July 2020 18:56 (three years ago) link

I agree with matt. 325 players who have not tested positive is 325 players who are susceptible to infection in a situation that appears to only be getting worse. cancel the season

k3vin k., Thursday, 2 July 2020 20:11 (three years ago) link

the inevitable outcome of trying to start the season is that players or close contacts will continue to test positive and the league will just end up with egg on its face and have to abort. just give up imo

k3vin k., Thursday, 2 July 2020 20:15 (three years ago) link

yeah k3v otm stop pretending this doesn’t end up with half the players positive in like three weeks

Clay, Thursday, 2 July 2020 20:22 (three years ago) link

counterpoint: two bubbles

The NBA is closing in on signing off on a second “bubble” in Chicago for the eight teams that were not invited to play in Orlando, enabling mini-training camps and subsequent games against other clubs with a target date of September, sources tell ESPN’s Jackie MacMullan.

I won't lie though, I'm excited to see sports. But I am totally fine with canceling the season; it's definitely the smart move.

It's likely though that next season is toast absent a miracle vaccine.

name of the hotel feels kinda portentous

Once the Celtics arrive at Walt Disney World later today, they will quarantine for roughly 48 hours in their respective hotel rooms at the Grand Destino Tower until they pass two separate COVID-19 tests (24 hours apart).

Boston is one of eight teams to arrive today.

ciderpress, Wednesday, 8 July 2020 17:25 (three years ago) link

so i just haven't been able to bring myself to even look at any NBA news or even this board. Is this shit a total disaster?
I mean i'm going to watch hoops if it's on but the championship is so meaningless I don't even care really.

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 8 July 2020 17:51 (three years ago) link

i watched some of "The Basketball Tournament: TBT" yesterday lol

lag∞n, Wednesday, 8 July 2020 17:54 (three years ago) link

its definitely all extremely sketchy and feelbad even if it works. i don't really want to watch anymore, wish they had just focused on figuring out next season instead but now we're probably gonna get 2 weird asterisk seasons instead of 1

ciderpress, Wednesday, 8 July 2020 18:00 (three years ago) link

yeah I could hardly be any less enthused for this

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 8 July 2020 18:22 (three years ago) link

The fact that the entire rest of the season is going to take place at fucking Disney World is some real shit

Anyway, I am completely pumped for some reason! Ha

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Wednesday, 8 July 2020 18:25 (three years ago) link

gonna save my energy till a week before games start and then do a deep dive into my soul to see how i REALLY FEEL then

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Wednesday, 8 July 2020 18:27 (three years ago) link

i'm excited, mostly because this seems much more likely to go well than the 20/21 season does. i understand not being excited but i don't think it's particularly sketchy. making everyone go to their home markets first isn't looking amazing but i don't really blame the nba for that.
