There’s a bunch of WNBA couples, maybe they all could do one on one games at home? This is a good idea I just had! Not joking about it!

I’m glad McDermott has figured things out. Has his defense gotten better? Those first couple years teams really focused on him

Don't worry, Our Lord John Paxson was retained. Had a brand new position created just for him awwww.

big stuff
High school players still can't go straight to the NBA, but the league is starting a new developmental team where elite prospects can earn half a million dollars in salary. 👀Will a player like Zion Williamson ever go to college again? pic.twitter.com/1tP672LGs7— Rachel Nichols (@Rachel__Nichols) April 17, 2020
― lag∞n, Friday, 17 April 2020 01:49 (four years ago) link
Just casting about for a reason why a Zion-type HS player would opt for college over $500,000 and all I can think of is a much-beloved parent pushing the player to go to college, because the parent sees the social prestige of a college education in exaggerated terms. This can happen occasionally in families with almost no formal education. Wouldn't happen often, I'd think.

the kicker is: nba is offering the salary PLUS a college scholarship
― methinks dababy doth bop shit too much (m bison), Friday, 17 April 2020 03:08 (four years ago) link
yah this is big and absolutely the right move
― Spottie, Friday, 17 April 2020 03:17 (four years ago) link
great idea to include a scholarship yeah.
― micah, Friday, 17 April 2020 03:36 (four years ago) link

Will NBA university have a good philosophy department?
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 17 April 2020 14:19 (four years ago) link
unfortunately kinda think it wont really affect them, like if you think about it theyve been losing tons of years of the best players forever and theyre more popular than ever, the march madness tv contract is bigger than the entire nba one, college basketball isnt really about quality of play its a little bit about school/regional fandom and a lot about a big exciting single elimination tournament
― lag∞n, Friday, 17 April 2020 14:20 (four years ago) link
March madness did fine when players were going straight to the pros. 15-20 guys should go pro and the rest go to college, it’s fine.
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 17 April 2020 14:24 (four years ago) link
yeah
― lag∞n, Friday, 17 April 2020 14:24 (four years ago) link
most one and done guys arent actually that good their freshman seasons even
It seems pretty silly to do this and not just let trans draft them tho xp
*teams.
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 17 April 2020 14:25 (four years ago) link
it makes sense if its the seed for something bigger, like i hope this development team turns into a program and then ultimately an academy for younger players so they can be in a situation thats thinking more long term rather than the win now hs/aau scenes thatre bad for players skill and physical development, nba already runs academies like that overseas, and its the standard practice for euro soccer tho those academies are run by the teams rather than the leagues
― lag∞n, Friday, 17 April 2020 14:26 (four years ago) link
noticed they said the development team will be playing vs those international academies for some of their game, no doubt the nba has thought a lot abt doing a usa basketball academy for hs age players
― lag∞n, Friday, 17 April 2020 14:28 (four years ago) link
if we had these the ball brothers might have normal jump shots lol
yeah it really needs to turn into a true feeder/development system or every guy is going to be this anthony edwards kid from georgia taking crazy stepback 3s and shooting under 30%.
― call all destroyer, Friday, 17 April 2020 14:37 (four years ago) link
guys hitting college age w all sort of injuries and bad medical care is a big issue too, greg oden mightve had a career under a different system
― lag∞n, Friday, 17 April 2020 14:49 (four years ago) link
Yeah it does seem like things go wrong in high school but otoh if you’re genetically predisposed to injury it would crop up then quite often
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 17 April 2020 18:31 (four years ago) link
wld think just having access to good trainers medical staff etc from any early age + not being over played by coaches only concerned with winning wld have great benefit
― lag∞n, Friday, 17 April 2020 18:43 (four years ago) link
it seems to me that kids who are still growing need a different training regime from those who have attained their full height. concentrating exclusively on bulking up with ever-stronger muscles when your tendons and ligaments are still adapting to new growth seems like a recipe for overstraining weak connective tissues. this is a big problem for youth baseball pitchers, so the rules put in strict limits on pitch counts.
