Am I crazy or was Markieff considered the better twin at one point
― Matt Armstrong, Monday, 23 November 2020 19:22 (three years ago) link
yeah kieff had the more polished offensive game when they were young. i think marcus was a little more of a generic PF type and then he learned to shoot the shit out of the ball.
― call all destroyer, Monday, 23 November 2020 19:27 (three years ago) link
he definitely was around the time they were drafted and got a couple years after xp
― k3vin k., Monday, 23 November 2020 19:29 (three years ago) link
purely from memory I feel like around the time marcus had that good season for the celtics and markieff was lost in the wizards morass was the inflection point, but I could be getting my timeline mixed up

are the nuggets done making moves?

they are really banking on MPJ making a pretty big leap.

they’ll probably be the 3 seed as the rosters stand now but given their trajectory it would have been nice to at the very least not have taken a step back from a roster standpoint. you can expect improvement from jokic/murray/MPJ which won’t be nothing, but there are not a lot of guys on the team who have the combination of guarding guys and staying healthy

jamychal green was a good pickup, but theyre gonna miss grant, craig, plumdog millionaire

who'd they draft again?
― discourse stu (m bison), Monday, 23 November 2020 20:40 (three years ago) link
I really like the hartenstein signing btw, I can definitely see him being as good as Plumlee
RJ Hampton and Zeke Nnaji
― Matt Armstrong, Monday, 23 November 2020 20:41 (three years ago) link
Hartenstein is kind of eerily like Plumlee in some ways, even down to preferring to do two handed reverse dunks
hampton could have a nice 2nd unit scoring role, nnaji could at least play organ covers of pop songs at the pepsi center
― discourse stu (m bison), Monday, 23 November 2020 20:43 (three years ago) link
Hampton has all-star upside, idk about Nnaji but he seems like a great fit. It’d be funny if the newly yoked Cancar is the guy in the end.
― Matt Armstrong, Monday, 23 November 2020 20:47 (three years ago) link
expecting much of anything out of hampton this year esp after how they handled MPJ seems like a stretch to menuggets are as well positioned to make a move at the deadline as anyone. lakers, clippers, heat all made moves at the deadline last year for guys who played 30+ mpg in the offs. they’ll be able to add what they need... prices will prob be lower anyway if the jrue trade is any indication

Cousins will sign a one-year, non-guaranteed deal, sources said. Houston expressed interest in signing the four-time All-Star before the NBA restart in July. Cousins serves as an upside signing, and has shown focus and drive in rehab through multiple long-term injuries. https://t.co/LUCaKrWwcj— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) November 23, 2020

― Spottie, Tuesday, 24 November 2020 00:11 (three years ago) link
Oh yeah no way is hampton playing this year, they have so many guards
― Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 24 November 2020 01:59 (three years ago) link
seems like internal improvement could be the biggest lever that any of the contending teams pull since i don't think anyone had an earth-shattering free agency period

this might be the definitive bubble story. so many good anecdotes: https://www.gq.com/story/inside-the-nba-bubble
My whole time in the bubble, I never once saw Jayson Tatum of the Celtics without his teammates Kemba Walker and Javonte Green. It was natural for players to form cliques, but the trio were inseparable. Tatum says his favorite night in the bubble was when he was sipping a drink (he rotated between a Hennessy and pineapple, a Crown Royal Apple, and a Moscato) and Walker said he had a confession, something that he had to get off his chest. It was a revelation that brought the already close teammates even closer, according to Tatum: “Kemba was like, ‘Yo, before I met you, I thought you were just…like, the epitome of a light-skinned dude with good hair who went to Duke. But being around you, you're just a country dude from St. Louis!’ ”

The Sacramento Kings have declined to match the Atlanta Hawks’ four-year, $72 million offer sheet for restricted free agent guard Bogdan Bogdanovic, sources tell ESPN.— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) November 25, 2020

Kings front office labored over the decision, but kept coming back to new GM Monte McNair’s plan to maintain roster flexibility. Keeping Bogdanovic would’ve severely limited the organization’s ability to continue reshaping the team around its young core of Fox, Bagley and Hield. https://t.co/d4tuT8IRkD— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) November 25, 2020
interesting definition of roster flexibility

ramona shelburne replying w/this to the woj tweet is extremely embarrassing
Smart, disciplined move by the Kings here. This shows a commitment to building around Fox & Hield. Hard to lose talent for nothing but matching just to match would have blocked that team building approach.— Ramona Shelburne (@ramonashelburne) November 25, 2020

love to build around an overpaid 27 year old one-way player who whines to the media anytime he's mildly inconvenienced
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 25 November 2020 02:40 (three years ago) link
the scoop trader analysis is always funny
For Hawks GM Travis Schlenk, it was a wise gamble to overpay market value on Bogdanovic. That’s how you land players in restricted free agency. Now, Bogdan joins Danilo Gallinari as centerpieces of an ATL free agency class that's reshaped roster around All-Star guard Trae Young.— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) November 25, 2020
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 25 November 2020 02:50 (three years ago) link
"they could only get this player by overpaying for him" is rarely a strategy that works out but go off
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 25 November 2020 02:51 (three years ago) link
i'm not sure it was all that much of an overpay!

the hawks and kings are both examples of what happens when you fuck up a tank by drafting players who arent good enough to create a winning culture

no lie okongwu might be the best player in this draft class tho i dont expect atl to develop him right
― discourse stu (m bison), Wednesday, 25 November 2020 03:45 (three years ago) link
they certainly aren't going to find out if hunter or reddish or even huerter is much of a player since they've brought in vets over the top of those guys
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 25 November 2020 03:52 (three years ago) link
god i forgot about those guys. someone on basketball twitter got mad at me for saying reddish had a horrible season last year (he did)
― discourse stu (m bison), Wednesday, 25 November 2020 03:54 (three years ago) link
i mean yeah he did but generally speaking bad teams shouldn't just foreclose on lottery picks getting better in years 2-3
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 25 November 2020 03:57 (three years ago) link
young guys will still get minutes
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 November 2020 05:20 (three years ago) link
it’s weird — on the one hand they signed a bunch of good players. on the other it def complicates the developments of reddish — very important to them as the only possible way for them to not have the doncic pick be a historic landslide — and hunter, who they traded 2 firsts plus a high second round pick for. i guess you could say for hunter that he doesn’t need the ball anyway but that doesn’t really reflect highly on that pick. ultimately between money, draft picks, and trade assets they have a lot invested in this current roster and i’m not sure they’re gonna get the most out of either side — not good enough to get out of the first round in the present but not investing enough in the future. but maybe playing on a good team elevates the young guys once gallo and bogdan are on the back ends of their deals idk. just seems like they’re pushing their way into a pretty stacked east when they should mostly be waiting out this current era of the conference. schlenk prob feeling the heat tho and rightfully so (traded away one of the best players of a generation for no reason)
