Stuff like: who the best or worst broadcasting teams are / which podcasts are worth checking out / which nbatv shows are good / how bad inside the nba is / etc.

Spottie, Friday, 12 January 2018 21:56 (one year ago) link

listening to the Kyrie episode of JJ Redick's podcast and kyrie is a weirdo. anyway in a snippet of it JJ said the rim on one side of the court (at the England arena) was crooked. 76ers shot well in the first half and Boston in the 2nd half. idk thought that was interesting

Spottie, Friday, 12 January 2018 22:02 (one year ago) link

the minn broadcast team is good like everyone says. i actually learn stuff from those guys.

call all destroyer, Friday, 12 January 2018 22:04 (one year ago) link

yeah i like them. i like the pdx team as well.

Spottie, Friday, 12 January 2018 22:19 (one year ago) link

So my top pods are:

listen to every one p much
Lowe Post
Woj Pod
House of Strauss – New pod with Ethan Strauss and his wife Allie (some hoops but kind of all over the place)
JJ Redick
bill simmons when he has hoops talk
warriors plus/minus with tim kawakami and marcus thompson

listen to some but not all
The Ringer NBA show — with Network and those peeps
Talk Hoops with Zach Harper
Basketball Friends — Haberstroh and other people
Open Floor: SI's NBA Show — Ben Golliver & Andrew Sharp
The Hoop Collective — all kind of espn writers
RealGM Radio — Danny Leroux pod

Spottie, Friday, 12 January 2018 22:36 (one year ago) link

i love the TBF guys. THC is a pretty pale imitation at this point.

Spottie, Friday, 12 January 2018 22:43 (one year ago) link

plz post juicy nuggs from podcasts in here plz thanks in advance

lag∞n, Friday, 12 January 2018 22:54 (one year ago) link

actually we require that you listen to the full pods to be able to comment itt

Spottie, Friday, 12 January 2018 23:01 (one year ago) link

rude!

lag∞n, Friday, 12 January 2018 23:09 (one year ago) link

i love the basketball jones/the starters weekly pod, but I could understand if it is way too silly for some. Road trippin is occasionally entertaining. The Ringer's NBA pods should be much better than they are. Give Shea Serrano a podcast, simmons!

while my dirk gently weeps (symsymsym), Saturday, 13 January 2018 04:50 (one year ago) link

I fully admit to watching the starters daily nba tv show most days please do not ban me

Clay, Saturday, 13 January 2018 05:13 (one year ago) link

lol those guys are living the life props to them for turning hoops fandom into a career. havent really listened to them since the TBJ days, I follow them all on twitter tho.

Spottie, Saturday, 13 January 2018 05:39 (one year ago) link

i can only (sporadically) get into the tv show around all-star game and playoffs, but yeah they are inspirations

while my dirk gently weeps (symsymsym), Saturday, 13 January 2018 05:56 (one year ago) link

I mostly like the constant dunking on leigh ellis and his constant Dad ways

Clay, Saturday, 13 January 2018 06:04 (one year ago) link

bill simmons on Lowe's pod just released, im sure to discuss the Rox/Clips dramz

Spottie, Tuesday, 16 January 2018 19:08 (one year ago) link

it was p good. but they are mostly talking midseason awards or w/e. think lowe is going on simmons' pod tomorrow.

anyone watch the rachel nichols show the jump?

i'd like to but it's on at a time where i am never watching tv

Chris Paul watched ASG last yr and didn’t like lack of competition... he hated seeing Steph have fun especially when he laid down on floor during game after Giannis dunk. From @BontaHill show with @sam_amick

my fav hoops pod rn is brian windhorst's espn pod w/ the other espn basketball ppl. it's basically the old truehoop podcast but w/ all good/smart writers and no "personalities" like amin or the more talk radio-ish guys that used to be on the truehoop pods. windhorst is kind of a garbage writer but as a moderator of conversation he's good bcuz he is very very knowledgeable about the league.

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 March 2019 20:18 (eight months ago) link

i listen to it cause brian is good but i actually hate the combinations of guests who rarely seem to have any chemistry. other than bontemps whose grumpiness i enjoy they can be a drag.

call all destroyer, Sunday, 17 March 2019 21:06 (eight months ago) link

it's a little worse now bcuz jackie macmullan is out... sometimes it's a weird crew. kirk goldsberry in partic is not very good.

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 March 2019 22:49 (eight months ago) link

yeah he's awful.

a lot of players doing pods now, anyone listening regularly to any?

_ Knuckleheads with Q Rich and Darius Miles is pretty fun but they are kinda boring, got some big guests like KD, Kobe and Wade
_ Matt Barnes and Stack Jack got one on showtime called All the Smoke. I like it so far, the JR smith one was pretty good
_ Road trippin with Channing and R Jeff - havent listened cos r jeff is a warriors h8r
_ JJ reddick one is pretty good
_ Winging it with Vince and Baze heard one it was fine

idk any more?

de-mamba mentality (Spottie), Friday, 1 November 2019 18:22 (one month ago) link

jj's transformation from duke superstar who writes poetry about how hard it is to have haters into well liked low key nba role player is pretty stunning tbf

lag∞n, Friday, 1 November 2019 18:27 (one month ago) link

dude turned into the best hired gun in the league somehow. figured out just enough defense to be able to stay on the floor with any lineup. he looks pretty bad this year so far tho so it may be nearing the end of the line

de-mamba mentality (Spottie), Friday, 1 November 2019 18:32 (one month ago) link

it must suck to have millions of ppl continue to judge you for how you were when you were 20. not just speaking about JJ but pro atheletes in general.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 1 November 2019 18:33 (one month ago) link

My memory of redick was that the defense was good by year 2 because the offense was struggling and he needed to compensate.

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 1 November 2019 18:56 (one month ago) link

imo he’s a classic example of a guy who does everything pretty well and one thing very well

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 1 November 2019 18:57 (one month ago) link

also has a great motor cool with just running around the whole game. he's a master of off-balance shooting, feel like he shoots as good fading to his right as he does completely set

de-mamba mentality (Spottie), Friday, 1 November 2019 18:59 (one month ago) link

he also got into sick shape, has to be one of the best-conditioned guys nowadays. for a guy who was wildly entitled and overrated coming out of school i give him credit for figuring out what he needed to change to stick in the nba and making it happen.

Have they said what the knuckles meant yet

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 20 November 2019 18:18 (two weeks ago) link

iirc in an article from like last year miles said they stole it from a LA high school team and before that theyve said it was a pulling yr antenna out gesture ie having high awareness

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 November 2019 18:22 (two weeks ago) link

I loved that clippers team btw

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 20 November 2019 20:32 (two weeks ago) link

That was the first clippers team that made people really think things could change there. Obviously the Elton Brand teams fulfilled it.

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 20 November 2019 20:34 (two weeks ago) link

nah that would be the early 90's teams with Manning imo , they made it to the playoffs for the first time in LA two years in a row.

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 20 November 2019 21:36 (two weeks ago) link

Yeah but those teams had larry brown coaching, that doesn’t count. The bobcats made the playoffs with Larry brown.

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 20 November 2019 21:39 (two weeks ago) link
