why do players always do this just trying to get attention

lag∞n, Saturday, 15 June 2024 23:15 (two years ago)

it’s so funny

friendship ended with warriors
now free agency is my best friend

Chyiv Kyiv (Fetchboy), Sunday, 16 June 2024 02:29 (two years ago)

i think the monk deal has kind of set the market a bit and i think klay will settle for around that? i think less teams are interested than i may have thought, rumors today that orlando is backing and was gonna offer 1/20 or something. still think he ends up on a 3/60-70 deal with the warriors team option on final year

I Chet the Holmgren (Spottie), Friday, 21 June 2024 19:21 (one year ago)

somebody reported klay's more interested in a longer term contract than getting a higher annual paycheck. GSW can probably find a way to keep him in the fold if they can defer some of the payments to the last year of a 4 year, assuming that they'll be blowing up the team by then and mostly backed out of the luxury tax

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Friday, 21 June 2024 21:28 (one year ago)

they arent doing 4. theyve offered 2 and he wants 3. team wants to line him up with curry/kerr deals and thats 2 years. dray has a 3rd year so they could go there with a team option but klay may not take that

I Chet the Holmgren (Spottie), Friday, 21 June 2024 21:30 (one year ago)

I'd rather lose him than have here for a third year, unless he's willing to play for $15 a year or something.

octobeard, Friday, 21 June 2024 21:51 (one year ago)

what cmon

lag∞n, Friday, 21 June 2024 21:53 (one year ago)

lag∞n, Friday, 21 June 2024 21:55 (one year ago)

Awww! So fresh-faced!!

I know he looked cooked for a lot of last season and shot them out of the game a few times but his numbers weren't far enough below his past production to justify breaking up the splash bros yet. I'm confident they'll come to an agreement.

Chyiv Kyiv (Fetchboy), Friday, 21 June 2024 23:58 (one year ago)

I have a Klay jersey, but I also want to see the team win. If Klay was willing to take a team friendly contract, I'm all for it, but I feel he's got some toxic levels of financial entitlement still and he's been the absolute opposite of clutch the last two years in the playoffs/play-in and even when they won his TS% was like 55%.

He's a solid role player now. If he can see that and take the appropriate pay cut so the team can have more depth, fantastic, but he's not exactly been signalling that he's open to it. He's a bit of a crybaby on the court too when things don't go his way lately, and he should have been benched far earlier than when he was. I'm tired of "legacy" deciding lineups. I wish Kerr was more like Pop here and I would love to see the Warriors try and reload more efficiently around Curry. It's clear after the last 3 years that Klay is less important to the team than Curry and Draymond.

I was mad when the Niners shipped off Lott, Craig and especially Montana, but then they kept winning. I know the cap situation makes this harder for the Warriors but I'd rather them be creative while Curry is here than keep the big 3 and do a 3 year retirement tour.

octobeard, Saturday, 22 June 2024 00:25 (one year ago)

Podz >>> Klay at this stage and his ceiling is only rising.

octobeard, Saturday, 22 June 2024 00:26 (one year ago)

i mean if the dubs want to blow it up then fine trade steph but as long as youre doing an extended farewell tour klays gotta be there

lag∞n, Saturday, 22 June 2024 00:33 (one year ago)

Man I just really disagree that podz is better than klay. Might get there soon but not yet. Klay just being on the floor opens everything up for curry and kuminga

I Chet the Holmgren (Spottie), Saturday, 22 June 2024 00:45 (one year ago)

Podz had higher win shares and the same VORP as Klay. Both played at least 74 games. VORP is a counting stat so Podz was technically better. Podz defense and BBIQ on court were better than Klay's most of the year just with the eye test. Podz was a defensive positive, Klay a liability (looking at DBPM, but is consistent with my visual memory too). Podz had way more rebounds and assits than Klay. He was the better all around impact player on the court. Podz was also a rookie, mind you, and was first team All Rookie! You have nostalgia goggles on. Podz is by far the best talent value on the entire roster (outside maybe Steph).

octobeard, Saturday, 22 June 2024 03:18 (one year ago)

Shooting ain't everything, and there's more people who can replace Klay's numbers than Podz' overall impact. Dude's a baller.

octobeard, Saturday, 22 June 2024 03:20 (one year ago)

Oh yeah Klay had a 117 turnovers to Podz 88 and Podz led the league in getting charge calls. I mean... that's INSANE. It was Podz and Jalen Brunsen leading the league in drawn charges and everyone else was a distant third. Again.... rookie!

octobeard, Saturday, 22 June 2024 03:25 (one year ago)

you see little guys who draw charges its often cause its the only way they can play d in a lot of spots

lag∞n, Saturday, 22 June 2024 14:44 (one year ago)

the thing about this dubs team is its not vital to give the young guys minutes develop them because the roster has no future theres just not enough talent theyre gonna bottom out and be awful at some point, by not trading steph now between delaying the rebuild and passing up whatever you can get for him its gonna set them back years

lag∞n, Saturday, 22 June 2024 14:50 (one year ago)

polyamerie "it's more than this 1 thing" (m bison), Saturday, 22 June 2024 14:55 (one year ago)

yeah i mean i get it they want steph to retire a warrior in which case they should want klay and dray to retire with them too i stand with klay

lag∞n, Saturday, 22 June 2024 14:57 (one year ago)

I mean they can’t sign him to a bad deal on purpose just because he’s a nice fellow there’s gotta be a line there somewhere

brony james (k3vin k.), Saturday, 22 June 2024 15:29 (one year ago)

they can sign him to a kind of bad deal theyre already being self destructive whats the difference

lag∞n, Saturday, 22 June 2024 16:01 (one year ago)

I feel this is some Boston fan projection. Now I hope we somehow get back in the mix next year just to crush those Celtic dreams again

octobeard, Saturday, 22 June 2024 17:02 (one year ago)

lol lagoon is smoking that winner crack

why is anyone else trying... seems sort of pointless...

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Saturday, 22 June 2024 17:29 (one year ago)

cmon you guys dubs finished in 10th last year their main guys are old saying theyre cooked isnt some obscure opinion

lag∞n, Saturday, 22 June 2024 18:24 (one year ago)

furthermore if you dont think theyre cooked then you should want to keep klay

lag∞n, Saturday, 22 June 2024 18:28 (one year ago)

ownership thinks theyre cooked hence making getting under the lux tax their priority

lag∞n, Saturday, 22 June 2024 18:30 (one year ago)

the gsw front office's headache right now is trying to meet conflicting goals - keep your Big Three and keep your young talent, but also dump salary to reduce or eliminate the luxury tax, and try to acquire future draft picks.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Saturday, 22 June 2024 18:44 (one year ago)

Nah lagoon otm, trading Steph asap would be a good idea imo. Also everyone else on the team.

brimstead, Saturday, 22 June 2024 18:45 (one year ago)

I extremely think they're cooked and agree that they have a ton of work to do to return to contender status. Bringing back Klay does nothing to push them toward relevance. Klay can contribute to a contending team but that will not happen on the Warriors. People treat him like he is some poor rescue pup but he's actually a very good player who can help some other team win.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Saturday, 22 June 2024 18:52 (one year ago)

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5583540/2024/06/22/klay-thompson-free-agency-warriors-negotiations/

Generally pessimistic about Klay coming back, also seems to contradict the supposed 2-year offer from the team.

Decam'ron (Leee), Saturday, 22 June 2024 18:55 (one year ago)

Steph ain't cooked. And if they win 7-8 more games with Dray not suspended they're in the post season

They hit it out of the park week their two rookies this year. They need to move on from the big three and redefine their identity. Steph right now is a better player than post injury Kobe. I feel they still have life in them but it's gonna take luck and hard decisions

octobeard, Saturday, 22 June 2024 22:10 (one year ago)

Week->with

octobeard, Saturday, 22 June 2024 22:10 (one year ago)

Fuck trading Steph. He's ours till the end.

octobeard, Saturday, 22 June 2024 22:11 (one year ago)

it doesn't look promising for the dubs to still be a championship caliber team with this roster. steph isn't cooked, but he needs to carry a lesser load next season. teams can load up on him more than ever before. Dray and Klay have regressed from their previous high levels of efficiency. yes the dubs have some good young players, but it takes more than that. without a couple of strokes of enormous luck, the dubs aren't going to the WCF, let alone the Finals next season. after that it just holds steady or gets worse.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Saturday, 22 June 2024 22:31 (one year ago)

their best shot at getting better in the short term is prob making a trade, like kuminga and picks could maybe bring back a star player

lag∞n, Saturday, 22 June 2024 22:42 (one year ago)

light years ahead not looking so hot these days

Clay, Saturday, 22 June 2024 22:51 (one year ago)

turns out it was more like five years

lag∞n, Saturday, 22 June 2024 22:58 (one year ago)

definition of light year really up in the air, one for the poets and philosophers really

Clay, Saturday, 22 June 2024 22:59 (one year ago)

could be it was lite years, the kind with only three months

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Saturday, 22 June 2024 23:06 (one year ago)

Leap years.

Decam'ron (Leee), Saturday, 22 June 2024 23:38 (one year ago)

Whatever, 4 in 7 while going to the finals 6 times is light years ahead of any team since the Bulls/Showtime Lakers. Going to be hard to match that with the new cap rules moving forward. Someone is going to need to give up a bag. Like the Celtics might run it back but their window won't be open for much longer after they pay Tatum unless they want to live in the 2nd apron!

My optimism is definitely a bit of cope, but I still believe the dubs got some more potential magic left.

octobeard, Sunday, 23 June 2024 01:13 (one year ago)

whither tim duncan

polyamerie "it's more than this 1 thing" (m bison), Sunday, 23 June 2024 01:22 (one year ago)

its true were unlikely to see a run like that again anytime soon, tho a run like that is rare at any time, suspect the celtics will be happy to wear the aprons as long as theyre contending but they do make it hard to add the talent you need to keep rolling

lag∞n, Sunday, 23 June 2024 01:24 (one year ago)

Tiny did 5 in well over a decade (99-2014). The density of years in which the Warriors contended is unmatched since the 90s

octobeard, Sunday, 23 June 2024 01:25 (one year ago)

Timmy! Lol
