somehow I spoke bill walton into existence and I’m currently trapped in a stream where he and some other guys are just talking about whatever whole the beautiful game plays on half the stream, why do I deserve this

the thing that drives me crazy about giannis free throw routine is the part before he gets the ball just once i want the ref to pass him the ball while hes doing that shit
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 30 January 2024 04:12 (two years ago)
yeah I don’t understand that part at all, is there a rule a player gets unlimited time to do their pre shot routine, or maybe only if you’re famous, it’s infuriating
― truly humbled underdog (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 30 January 2024 04:15 (two years ago)

the min game rule appears to be encouraging some all-star level dudes to play when they maybe shouldn’t play, which is a tangible bad thing for the quality of the playoffs and the longevity of their careers. we all kinda agree on this no? so set that against.. what? we also agree that it is not actually a problem that needs to be solved. there hasn’t been some rash of guys winning mvp with only 55 games under their belts. and there’s a simple reason for that, which is that voters already take that into consideration when casting their votes. like every other award like this in every other sport. closers don’t win mvp in baseball, because they don’t play enough. not because of a rule but because that’s just how voters feel. but what if there was a closer who was just so dominant, so historically batshit good, that people just felt jeez you GOTTA give it to this guy (hint: mariano rivera). you wouldn’t want some arbitrary rule to close that vote down!if the purpose of the rule is to make stars play so that the “product” the nba is selling to advertisers is as star-spangled as can be - and i think that is indisputably the purpose - then we’re in a situation where we’re literally trading the quality of the playoffs and the health of the league’s veteran stars - as well as the potential chance to vote for an earth-shaking season by a veteran - for advertising money. yay?
― Humanitarian Pause (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 30 January 2024 08:44 (two years ago)
imagine saying mo rivera wasn’t a first ballot hall of famer because he pitched so few innings, that he’d need to wait on some future reconciliation committee. ridiculous. and for guys like trout who get injured all the time, there’s a simple solution for making sure they don’t “steal” an mvp award.. the voters just don’t vote for him
― Humanitarian Pause (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 30 January 2024 08:52 (two years ago)
maybe they should just give out the mvp to the guy who played the fewest games and is freshest for the playoffs
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 30 January 2024 15:27 (two years ago)
he only played one half of basketball... but he scored 100 points makes u think
― Humanitarian Pause (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 30 January 2024 16:07 (two years ago)
they should give SGA the mvp if they really dont want to give it to jokic again
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 30 January 2024 16:19 (two years ago)
they should give it to tatum because he is nice
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 30 January 2024 16:20 (two years ago)
i dont like his potato chip flavor. not mvp worthy
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 30 January 2024 16:24 (two years ago)
they should let lebron choose
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 30 January 2024 16:24 (two years ago)
jokic will prob just win it again
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 30 January 2024 16:26 (two years ago)
they should give jokic his own chips he is the fat one
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 30 January 2024 16:29 (two years ago)
would lebron choose himself
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 30 January 2024 16:30 (two years ago)

― Lavator Shemmelpennick, Tuesday, 30 January 2024 20:40 (two years ago)
well, the nba has embraced gambling and showered it with affection on the theory that point shaving and other types of corruption won't slip in through the same door they've opened so wide.

lebron's gonna have to leave the lakers this summer huh
― Clay, Wednesday, 31 January 2024 02:31 (two years ago)
bronny being in this draft will be a pull on lebron to go to him, but for any team considering picking bronny, then accommodating lebron as a free agent would mean paying lebron's huge contract and dealing with his desire to be GM wherever he lands. it'll make for a strange dynamic for any team coping with it.
― more difficult than I look (Aimless), Wednesday, 31 January 2024 02:43 (two years ago)
bronny’s averaging 12 points a game on 36% shooting. he won’t get to the next level on name recognition alone…unless his dad drafts him
― truly humbled underdog (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 31 January 2024 02:47 (two years ago)
maybe if lebron hadn't spent years saying he was going to play in the nba next to bronny the poor kid wouldn't be under as much pressure to be elite asap.
― more difficult than I look (Aimless), Wednesday, 31 January 2024 03:49 (two years ago)
hate to say it but I'm kind of rooting for Ben Simmons, it's much easier when he's just out there in no-man's land like this. if he actually has a couple good years it might be the weirdest NBA career ever
