why not just build the whole team out of good players on cheap deals

i mean lakers gotta do something if they want to make this current team work, holding onto a reasonably priced role player is long term thinking, one pick and reaves isnt gonna get you an allstar, the only difference making player itll get you is one with some question marks, i personally would not trade murray for that package, doubt the hawks would either, lavine on the other hand

the thing w/ a lebron team is that getting a third star doesn’t actually make much sense bcuz that guy is just going to be a role player anyway. his title teams were actually perilously top heavy but he was so good then that he could make it work anyway. if im the lakers im not taking on a crazy lavine contract so that he can become an extremely expensive role player w/ the added downside of what you’re doing w/ him in 2-3 years. i’m just trying to find the right cheap role player mix around bron and hoping that he & AD can put a run together. so in that sense i think reaves is a great fit for them bcuz he is a role player making a role player’s salary

what is actually alarming about the lakers is that the wing group for a roster where literally the entire thing is about nailing the 3 and D rotation is hachimura, prince, vanderbilt and cam reddish. that’s just pitiful

if you wanna talk about a team that really fucked up by not taking jaquez jr, the lakers took jalen hood schifino one pick before miami despite jaquez being in their backyard and he’s the exact kinda guy who would thrive playing with lebron

yeah the lakers badly need guy who can move around and are powerful, speaking of which

id rather have murray, upon extended examination of austin reaves as mandated by the ilh message board ive come to the conclusion that hes too soft to be a starter on a quality team, just a really not physical player on both sides of the ball, hes got skills but zero pop to his game, the lakers badly need someone to do the things he does dribble shoot pass run some offense and they wont even start him, tho tbf that could just be a coaching mistake, but still hes so weak and slow, maybe he should ask bron about the juice

i find murray extremely confusing because i understand why people like him and when i watch him i think he is good and yet he’s 27 and in basketball if you’re that good you should prob eventually be on a team that finishes over .500

maybe hes secretly bad and thats why the hawks suck, makes about as much sense as anything i guess

feels weird to talk about the herro/maxey/poole/simons archetype now given how some of those guys are playing these days but if the worst thing you could say about reaves is he’s just that style of all offense no defense guard, it’s still important that he’s making less than half every year of what that skill set gets out on the market

i dont think he could ever be a high usage player like those guys

cade has had some really good games as of late

seems like the lakers are basically saying that reaves needs to come of the bench to limit his minutes in order for him to be effective, that puts a huge dent in the supposed value of his contract

cade 3 then 3pt play to cut it to 3 with 2mins left

cade hit like a normal layup on a spin move and the announcer on whatever feed this is was all "WHOOOAAA IMPOSSIBLE SHOT"

iirc they tried starting reaves this season and it didn't go very well so maybe they're right about this one, he doesn't have the baggage of a westbrook so they're not really obligated to hold on to any myths about how to use him.

and yes his contract is still positive, but if he can't start it's not nearly as positive as people thought when it was signed

reaves closes for them i’m not sure the starting aspect is very meaningful. breaking up the minutes he was playing with bron & russell makes sense to me bcuz reaves should have the ball a lot when he’s on the floor, tho of course now they’re playing him w russell again. i dunno he’s a pretty classic sixth man scoring guard to me so whatever the lakers are doing with his role as they flail around trying to figure their team out is not really adding any mystery to the reaves question for me

i think this started as a conversation about trade value and yeah there are players i would not trade him for, lavine certainly is in that camp, but at the same time i'm not really sure what problems he's solving on the current lakers roster assuming their goal is to make a deep playoff run

lakers should def try to get lavine without moving reaves, bulls gotta want to just dump him tho, not impossible but also not very bullsy
