yeah for sure big issues with very or even slightly successful people tbf is thinking theyre renaissance man brain geniuses

some owners tbf are a little wiser and go for the hire good people and stay out of their way approach

like the celtics owner wyc (pronounced wick) grousbeck from what i can tell only gets involved in basketball issues if its on the level of trading a star player, and even then its not like hes driving he just wants to be consulted

Not to say sports owners aren't already insanely rich, but I think the steeply escalating values of sports franchises regardless of relative success in the sport is a bigger factor now. What other assets that you can buy only go up and so dramatically without you having to do anything? Even real estate can be cyclical.

feel like buying something right after a very sharp increase in price isnt necessarily top level rich guy behavior, tho if they just want a team being able to tell themselves that its gonna go up forever is prob a nice lil thing

Really super rich guys love sports teams in part because they can write off any business losses against their corporate taxes, then turn around and sell the team any time they feel like it for at least double what they paid for it. Plus, a side helping of glamour.
