Wolves snapped to it and handled their business against a pretty dog shit Jazz lineup, was fun, Target Center vibes at an all time high

they did it

lag∞n, Friday, 1 December 2023 03:48 (two years ago)

yeah pretty embarrassing performance all around. guess that's why you foul when up 3

frogbs, Friday, 1 December 2023 03:49 (two years ago)

The 3 things that have made modern offenses so hard to guard compared to in the past are transition, 3-point shooting/spacing, and attacking the rim efficiently utilizing said spacing. The Clippers currently do none of those things.

Yeah they really have no identity at all just hoping talent wins out. Not sure their stars have the personalities to make it work.

infinite wiggles (Spottie), Friday, 1 December 2023 05:16 (two years ago)

that bad huh

― lag∞n, Thursday, November 30, 2023 9:59 PM (yesterday)

honestly i'm not that worried about them long term, they just have not figured it out yet. every 1st quarter they go down double digits and then spend the game trying to come back. if it's someone like the spurs or wiz they can usually get all the way back (like last night apparently) but it's just not fun to watch. also i take all the nice things i said about sadiq bey back. jalen johnson has been the fun one this year but he's out for a month with a injured wrist so i may join him

the pacers may have a few things they need to figure out defensively

Miami finished shooting 35-of-57 in the paint with 45 free-throws.

Jaden Ivey was a starter in 73 games for the Pistons last season

At the start of this season, Monty Williams did not conduct any meetings or have direct conversations with Ivey to inform him that he would be playing off the bench, per @JakeLFischer

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Friday, 1 December 2023 16:39 (two years ago)

suns being good and getting CP saved his career

infinite wiggles (Spottie), Friday, 1 December 2023 16:49 (two years ago)

didnt they pay him a ton to coach there too

ciderpress, Friday, 1 December 2023 17:09 (two years ago)

6 years, 78.5 million...

ciderpress, Friday, 1 December 2023 17:10 (two years ago)

thats insane lol

infinite wiggles (Spottie), Friday, 1 December 2023 17:17 (two years ago)

looking at the pistons and spurs i do wonder if coming up on a team with no good established starters isn't bad for development. not even for mentorship or whatever but it seems like it would be important just to have a couple guys on the floor who really know what they're doing at the nba level for the new guys to play off of and to carry some of the load

ciderpress, Friday, 1 December 2023 18:22 (two years ago)

Last years Rockets

Jeff, Friday, 1 December 2023 18:23 (two years ago)

yeah for sure xp. gotta balance some solid vets

infinite wiggles (Spottie), Friday, 1 December 2023 18:24 (two years ago)

wonder if getting Bojan back will help them at all

infinite wiggles (Spottie), Friday, 1 December 2023 18:25 (two years ago)

yeah i dont think very highly of fvv but hes clearly had an effect beyond his own level of production

ciderpress, Friday, 1 December 2023 18:27 (two years ago)

obv its hard to separate that from just the young guys getting another year of experience but it feels significant

ciderpress, Friday, 1 December 2023 18:29 (two years ago)

xp yeah now that i look at the full roster they have those guys they are just all injured

why would they do this lol

lag∞n, Friday, 1 December 2023 18:42 (two years ago)

we all saw a guy who coached a veteran team to the finals while openly engaging in long term mental warfare with the one young player in the rotation and the pistons looked at that and were like “yeah this is the guy for us”

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Friday, 1 December 2023 18:47 (two years ago)

read the jake fischer piece…troy vincent wanted one coach, arn tellem wanted a different one…and the owner went over the top and opened the vault for monty.

call all destroyer, Friday, 1 December 2023 18:50 (two years ago)

totally fucked organization

call all destroyer, Friday, 1 December 2023 18:50 (two years ago)

jfc get it together pistons

lag∞n, Friday, 1 December 2023 18:51 (two years ago)

i think there is prob some truth to having vets in the rotation -- especially at point guard -- but then you look at what OKC is doing and maybe the key is not having vets in the rotation it's being a good franchise and not a bad one

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Friday, 1 December 2023 18:51 (two years ago)

yeah but they did turn the corner when they got CP and he got shai on the right foot, now hes the vet

infinite wiggles (Spottie), Friday, 1 December 2023 18:54 (two years ago)

lol, dude i am so old now

call all destroyer, Friday, 1 December 2023 18:54 (two years ago)

they should just trade all their good young guys away for vets its clearly what they want. we can't save the pistons fans but we can save the players

ciderpress, Friday, 1 December 2023 18:54 (two years ago)

also the okc guys seem to have a certain level of maturity

infinite wiggles (Spottie), Friday, 1 December 2023 18:55 (two years ago)

i think eventually in the natural course of things a team will get some vets and hopefully theyre cool guys or whatever, going out and overpaying fred and dillion seems like kind of a reductive approach, over consumption of success win narratives

lag∞n, Friday, 1 December 2023 18:56 (two years ago)

sga had vets on the team his first couple years, chris paul and al horford and...george hill and such. and then he became the guy for everyone else

ciderpress, Friday, 1 December 2023 18:57 (two years ago)

well you guys are talking about two diff things now. shai learning from vet leadership is one thing but shai doesn't count as the vet on the floor for the jalen williams, giddey, chet etc era there was nobody on the floor teaching those guys how to play NBA ball the right way, it was just the coaches & organization being good overall

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Friday, 1 December 2023 18:58 (two years ago)

horf and cp3 is a real angel on one shoulder devil on the other type vet situation lol

lag∞n, Friday, 1 December 2023 18:59 (two years ago)

i mean if you look at the KD-russ era they had guys like collison & perkins as key rotation pieces

their approach w/ the sequel has been pretty different. they didn't sign a vet big to back up chet just in case, they don't have a vet PG around in case shai gets hurt... the oldest players in their rotation are shai (25), dort (24), and isaiah joe (24)

frankly perkins prob cost them a title so maybe presti is looking at it like lesson learned on that one -- we're good enough as an org now to do it ourselves w/o weighing down our roster

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Friday, 1 December 2023 19:04 (two years ago)

having a coach with a real plan the most important part for sure

ciderpress, Friday, 1 December 2023 19:04 (two years ago)

yeah they stopped hiring stiffs

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Friday, 1 December 2023 19:05 (two years ago)

and it's entirely possible the whole rockets thing stems from ime and not FVV/brooks

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Friday, 1 December 2023 19:06 (two years ago)

perk is a hilarious vet to get as he was not only very bad at basketball but also a dumbass who prob had an unbearable vet schtick that no one listened to

lag∞n, Friday, 1 December 2023 19:06 (two years ago)

keys to rockets success are prob something like
theyre not actually that good
sengun making the leap
fred and dillion are on court upgrades
cutting kevin porter jr
getting a good coach

lag∞n, Friday, 1 December 2023 19:09 (two years ago)

constantly tinkering with the rotation and roles is probably whats actually bad. having a guy who is definitively your point guard prevents a lot of failed experiments or w/e

ciderpress, Friday, 1 December 2023 19:10 (two years ago)

also just trying to be good, last year they were a bad team that was not trying to be good just letting jalen green and porter jr do whatever, now theyve got fred running pick and roll with sengun and its a lot more coherent, but also theyre already dropping off and will prob end up being an amount better than last year that makes sense as opposed to their holy shit is this team actually good start

lag∞n, Friday, 1 December 2023 19:14 (two years ago)

especially with chet i think most every team would have signed a hulking center and played chet at 4 until he got stronger etc which is exactly what ppl thought they would do bcuz it seems prudent and standard. but they were like, no we're good & they were even more right than anyone would've thought. seems like they know what they're doing over there, in contrast to some other franchises

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Friday, 1 December 2023 19:15 (two years ago)

yeah this okc rebuild has been so good its crazy

lag∞n, Friday, 1 December 2023 19:18 (two years ago)

sorry to bring up a specific podcast episode in a second thread in less than 10 minutes but there is a good thing from nate in the new hollinger & duncan orgs ranking podcast about OKC may have tweaked their approach to roster building in b/w the two eras that has helped them this time around. he mentions specifically the hiring of a dynamic coach and not a rigid babysitter type and also drafting more for basketball talent than freakish length/athleticism wings with no skill who they think they can develop (perhaps poku was just a pang of nostalgia hitting). i think you could prob throw the not trading for any vets thing in there too tho

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Friday, 1 December 2023 19:26 (two years ago)
