The NBA is “looking into the facts” around James Harden’s availability against the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday after the Philadelphia 76ers guard was ruled out for his team’s season opener. Here’s what you need to know:

Harden’s absence raises questions regarding the implementation of the NBA’s new star rest policy, which states that teams must make star players available for nationally televised (and In-Season Tournament) games.
NBA spokesperson Mike Bass said the league is working to “determine whether an approved reason exists for his lack of participation” in a statement Thursday.
Harden is listed as out and not with the team due to “return to competition reconditioning” on the injury report.

thats a good idea tbh, theres a lot of things you could build the letterboxed or good reads of, im working on one for a client right now as a matter of fact, tho i think the nba one would need to be a lil more twittery ie be more about chat during the games

lag∞n, Friday, 27 October 2023 18:20 (two years ago)

tbh i wouldnt use a sports one theres no real utility to a list of basketball games ive watched like there is with movies where i can use it to remember stuff to rewatch or recommend to people or directors to further explore, sports are too transient

ciderpress, Friday, 27 October 2023 18:26 (two years ago)

agree that it has to be more live-reaction-focused for that reason but i already have ILH for that don't really want a bigger crowd

ciderpress, Friday, 27 October 2023 18:27 (two years ago)

twitter used to be so good for that too

k3vin k., Friday, 27 October 2023 18:29 (two years ago)

i assume a lot of that is happening on, like, discord these days?

call all destroyer, Friday, 27 October 2023 18:30 (two years ago)

yeah the concept would have to be pretty different than letterboxed but the ability to have the apps functionality built specifically basketball data could be good, something like that may already exist idk, def have to focus on the live experience, and while people are unlikely to go back and look at old games too much one thing people do do is look at last nights game

lag∞n, Friday, 27 October 2023 18:33 (two years ago)

it would be cool if it could capture/track notable plays and possessions, like some guy has a weird turnover off his own face and all the users like it or add it to their favorites

call all destroyer, Friday, 27 October 2023 18:42 (two years ago)

yeah i was thinking of like how soundcloud does timestamps on comments so you can see exactly what part of a track someone commented on. that but for likes would be fun, you could have a little histogram of the game like that youtube thing that shows the most viewed parts of the video, idk if any of the web streaming bball apps have that already

ciderpress, Friday, 27 October 2023 18:51 (two years ago)

yeah you would prob need the rights to the games to make it good, make it easy to pull share clips, maybe it could be tied into league pass accounts i know people stream movies from amazon on twitch and in order to watch them you have to put yr prime credentials in

lag∞n, Friday, 27 October 2023 18:55 (two years ago)

v strange to me how stone-age all the big league apps are. you’d think they’d be the ones doing these innovations. maybe there’s not enough in it for them yet since everybody in-market has to watch on the rsn

Tracer Hand, Friday, 27 October 2023 19:02 (two years ago)

companies like that just have a real hard time making good tech

lag∞n, Friday, 27 October 2023 19:04 (two years ago)

nba cant even make a site where you can reliably stream their games

lag∞n, Friday, 27 October 2023 19:04 (two years ago)

i think its just not possible to make a good website in 2023 someone would have done it if it was

ciderpress, Friday, 27 October 2023 19:13 (two years ago)

i mean in general not just for sports

ciderpress, Friday, 27 October 2023 19:14 (two years ago)

theres that too

lag∞n, Friday, 27 October 2023 19:15 (two years ago)

i assume a lot of that is happening on, like, discord these days?

I'm part of a couple NBA Discords which are like half fun and half annoying. I'm sure there are good ones out there though. one that I'm on is really big, chats during all games in progress go pretty fast

frogbs, Friday, 27 October 2023 19:16 (two years ago)

Discord is my main timewaster now

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Friday, 27 October 2023 19:20 (two years ago)

i loathe the discord UI which is how i know i’m old. it seems like a small one would be fun for game chats.

call all destroyer, Friday, 27 October 2023 19:42 (two years ago)

letterbox’d for regular season games is a great & idea and essentially how i use ILH

J0rdan S., Friday, 27 October 2023 19:44 (two years ago)

believe on league pass thru web browser they do timestamp important plays but it’s not intuitive

idk if you guys have ever watched NFL on amazon but they have a default setting that will show you a series of clips of important plays up until the point where you’ve tuned the game on. or you can just skip that and start live. they also do an analytics broadcast that tracks players routes along the field as they run & stuff. i wouldn’t watch a game i cared about that way but it’s a fun trifle

i think lagoon is right that the leagues just don’t have the tech capability to build this stuff in a very user friendly way. i’ve heard ppl say that NFL sunday ticket on youtube now is a night & day experience from the previous iteration (NFL + directv)

J0rdan S., Friday, 27 October 2023 19:48 (two years ago)

I like that shit a lot. NFL Red Zone for instance was a total revelation. I like the Manningcast a lot too, not that I particularly like the Mannings but I do like that there's an alternate broadcast full of guys just talking about shit as though they're in your living room. but maybe the NFL is just different in that a 3 hour broadcast will really only have like, 12 minutes of actual action

frogbs, Friday, 27 October 2023 19:55 (two years ago)

if league pass did stuff like this i might even pay for it instead of just torrenting everything the next day. (the game is on too late where i live. which game? cmon you know the game i'm talkin about)

Tracer Hand, Friday, 27 October 2023 20:10 (two years ago)

speaking of websites that work, the nba website looks like this for me rn
