howard beck wrote a gimmicky and forgettable piece for the ringer a couple of days ago about giannis' extension that among other things tried to capture how quickly and inevitably stars' public personas shift as they move through their careers. it compared giannis to durant as someone who was initially portrayed as an innocent pure heart floating above the drama, and included a clip of kd circa 2011-12 with his lil backpack. just adorably endearing, and reminded me of that amazing press conference he had when he won mvp. i'm not naïve enough to think he actually was a totally different person back then, but i sure do miss the luxury of seeing him as the guy i thought he was at that time.
