golden state warriors thread

i like the rotation:

- curry
- klay
- wiggins
- dray
- loon

- cp3 (old, probably cooked, but hes the opposite of poole, raises the floor lowers the ceiling)
- kuminga (all things pointing to a breakout season, but will kerr trust him when it matters)
- moody (just seems like the perfect pro, solid all around no major weakness)
- gp2 (coming into the season fully healthy should be good, a little worried he wont play with the starters much, which is where he really shines imo)
- saric (slow but smart, can stretch the floor, should fill the bjelica role that they were missing last year)

- cory joseph

- podz
- trace jackson davis
- garuba

pretty versatile but i still think they need a big to eat up ten minutes here or there in the regular season.

last season the bench was:

- poole (unhappy and helping the other team on way too many nights)
- kuminga (2nd year still figuring it out, looked great 2nd half of season w wiggs out)
- moody (see above, but proved himself to be trustworthy in the playoffs)
- jamychel green (looked like a nice signing but he was cooked and had like 4 good games all year, currently unsigned, prob done in the nba)
- wiseman (team was like league worst in his minutes, currently fighting wit
- iggy (played like 1.5 games)
- anthony lamb (out of the league)
- ryan rollins (rookie, prob wont make it in the league)
- patrick baldwin jr (rookie, might stick around in the league idk)
- ty jerome (better than expected and earn a 2/5 deal with the cavs)
- gp2 (hurt)

Yeah it's looking like a much better bench, and there's optimism that podz and TJD can contribute far more meaningful minutes than the rookies we've drafted the past 2 years could during their inaugural seasons.

forgot to finish my wiseman point that hes fighting w bagley for backup minutes on a young/bad team.

unfortunately just not a guy who is good at basketball seems like

a real lack of feel for the game

Trey Lance or Wiseman - who's the bigger bust? Both seem to have eerily similar backgrounds (covid era picks who had a dearth of experience post high school), were top 2/3 picks, and professional career paths on massively downward trajectories laced with injury laden disappointment.

Were these dudes massively unlucky, or hit the jackpot and made a few million more than their true talent was able to express in a normal non-pandemic year?

Bagley might be bigger bust than either of those guys given that he's had a lot of play time and showed pretty conclusively that he's mediocre.

Wiseman probably doesn't have it but there's no shame in falling behind Duren in the depth chart.

both number two picks similar type of guys feel like bagely might be better just cause he has some actual basketball skills tho not sure theyre enough to really make a difference

tho bagley was picked ahead of luka where wiseman was ahead of lamelo

i don't think any basketball reporters, fans etc were deluded into thinking bagley was worth that pick -- we all knew going in that vlade's beef w/ luka or whatever was driving them to make some very dumb choices

yeah i could def see wiseman as a worthy project, first time i watched him i was like wow that guy moves amazingly well for a big man but it turned out he just couldnt ball whatre you gonna do, i personally would not select a big man project at number 2 thats 1990s behavior but its not totally off the wall like say basing your pick on a multigenerational baltic basketball feud is

A trade I'd like to see is Wiseman to Washington. Poole and Wiseman are pals, and Gafford's skills don't really overlap much with Wise's.

this is right but i think a lot of people already forget how fucked that class was due to covid, and wiseman had stopped playing before covid and basically didn't play college basketball anyway. people were working with a real lack of information in that draft.

lamelo going from a guy a lot of people suspected couldnt shoot to immediately upon arriving in the nba shooting very well indeed was a pretty wild twist too

Hollinger has the Warriors as a 5-seed in the West, after MEM, DEN, PHX, and MIN (wtf).

i mean its prob gonna be a big jumble in the west but idk about minny in there

impossible to pick the west. they are a top 6 seed but just like all the other teams, injuries (or 45 game family issues like wiggins last year) can change it quickly.

i think a lot more teams will be taking the reg season a bit more seriously this year. cant be throwing away games like years past or you might be fighting for the 9-10 spot.

lakers seem up there with the second tier in the west well ahead of minny to me but everyone seems to think the lad is going to make an mvp-level jump so I guess that’s where the optimism is coming from

yeah idk hes still only 22 and the rest of the roster is kinda good not tremendous

I’m pretty bullish on the wolves next 3 years or so assuming edwards makes the leap and they do the obvious thing and move KAT

yeah i did a double take at that wolves prediction but if they can somehow sell reasonably high (at least not low) on KAT for pieces and assets that fit around Ant and make Gobert actually make sense, then it ain't crazy

if theyre going to be good soon then its more likely theyll do it with their current team, if you trade kat youre probably taking a step back talent wise unless you can get an allstar for him, gobert is a zero on offense and vulnerable to five out on d, idk, mid to long term they could be good if they commit to building around ant but if they want to be good in the short term theyre prob going to have to figure out how to work with this weird collection of guys, which i mean its not an impossible vision to see kat bombing threes while ant does super star stuff and gobert blocks shots i guess but it hasnt really worked so far

Of course everyone is forgetting the Kings too. Pacific division is lit

kings definitely seem like a good regression candidate, they fared really well in the clutch last year and their talent level gives them a ceiling the other contenders don’t have, imo

also injury luck was really good, then again most of their guys are pretty young

i think theyll be close to the same. fox might have one more level to get too but a murray leap will really determine their ceiling

west finishing order basically impossible to pick if last year is any indication of how competitive it will be

yeah i've been listening to a bunch of over/under pods and there are like 9 west teams hovering around 44 wins
