if the blazers get 2 firsts and a guy for jrue that's a haul of 3 firsts, 2 2 swaps, ayton and a guy for lillard. better than i would've guessed back in summer and obv way better than what miami was offering
― Clay, Thursday, 28 September 2023 20:50 (two years ago)
don't forget it's for a package of lillard, nurkic, and some other guys, so we're also out from under nurk's contract. not too shabby.

not exactly gobert value but pretty good all things considered
― lag∞n, Thursday, 28 September 2023 21:02 (two years ago)
what are the chances that cronin is around to make the draft pick in 2029
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 28 September 2023 21:05 (two years ago)
felt like Jrue is really hot and cold when it comes to shooting, you either get 65% with several circus shots or 20% where he's clanking open 3s until he just stops taking them. unfortunately a lot of the latter in the playoffs but his regular season shooting numbers with Milwaukee were pretty good
― frogbs, Thursday, 28 September 2023 21:05 (two years ago)
if you got him on a team with a lot of offensive firepower he might be better but then why are you paying him so much to be a defensive specialist
― lag∞n, Thursday, 28 September 2023 21:07 (two years ago)
not sure if cronin’s being there or not is germane to whether the haul is better or not, but it’s an argument for his sticking around that his plan worked out rather than just being the guy who caved xps
― Clay, Thursday, 28 September 2023 21:09 (two years ago)
knicks should not trade immanuel quickley + two first rounders for jrue holiday imo
― is he disgruntled adrian? (voodoo chili), Thursday, 28 September 2023 21:11 (two years ago)
is quickley gonna leave the knicks to sign a long-term deal to be a third guard on a different team? idk

― Clay, Thursday, September 28, 2023 5:09 PM (twelve seconds ago)
it's not, for the franchise
cronin is also the guy who sunk dame's trade value by giving him a needless crazy extension, so we'll see about how the master plan works out. gonna be a lot of deandre ayton basketball until the returns roll in
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 28 September 2023 21:19 (two years ago)
it’ll be fun shaedon sharpe does cool dunks

wemby's coming soon to an NBA floor, too. so much fun to anticipate now that it's nearly October.
― more difficult than I look (Aimless), Thursday, 28 September 2023 21:44 (two years ago)
it’s overwhelmingly being shot down by people who know what they’re talking about, but the nuggets should not trade for jrue
― k3vin k., Thursday, 28 September 2023 23:53 (two years ago)
hmm maybe they should tho
― lag∞n, Thursday, 28 September 2023 23:55 (two years ago)
guess they dont really have the contracts to match
― lag∞n, Thursday, 28 September 2023 23:57 (two years ago)
portland is going to get better offers than whatever the nuggets would put together

lillard and his agent come across so pathetic in that lol

Agree.

oh well haha
"I wanted everyone to understand that even though we didn't have a no-trade clause, a provision that's not afforded to Dame under the CBA, I was going to do everything in my power to control the market and help get my client to a place he wanted to be," Goodwin told B/R.
― lag∞n, Friday, 29 September 2023 01:30 (two years ago)
imagine saying that with a straight face after these events

"I wanted everyone to understand that even though we didn't have a no-trade clause, a provision that's not afforded to Dame under the CBA, I was going to do everything in my power to stumble around being a nuisance and a fuckup by getting in the way of any deals getting made for my client."
― more difficult than I look (Aimless), Friday, 29 September 2023 01:43 (two years ago)
wonder if dame couldve gotten to miami if he was a lil more accommodating to the blazers
― lag∞n, Friday, 29 September 2023 02:15 (two years ago)
not mentioned in the article but you gotta think that blazers suspected miami of tampering
― lag∞n, Friday, 29 September 2023 02:21 (two years ago)
if only they could have gathered a bunch of roughly similar offers, maybe he could have come in at the end and said you know if all these are about equal i'd really prefer miami.
― call all destroyer, Friday, 29 September 2023 02:23 (two years ago)
wild idea
― lag∞n, Friday, 29 September 2023 02:23 (two years ago)
xp maybe but it doesn't seem like miami even had time to tamper. dame's agent was like pre-tampering by nuking the market before it existed.
― call all destroyer, Friday, 29 September 2023 02:24 (two years ago)
they just wildly misread their own control of the situation for some reason
― call all destroyer, Friday, 29 September 2023 02:25 (two years ago)
it's the agent's responsibility to know the market and give good advice to their client. dame's only job is playing hoops.
― more difficult than I look (Aimless), Friday, 29 September 2023 02:26 (two years ago)
some aspect of dame feeling he deserved the blazers deference
― lag∞n, Friday, 29 September 2023 02:27 (two years ago)
I got the sense that dame’s camp thought his reputation as a good loyal community guy trumped everything, as if people don’t turn on each other as the wind blows xp yeah
― Clay, Friday, 29 September 2023 02:28 (two years ago)
yes, like if i talk about how loyal i am constantly it will somehow matter
― call all destroyer, Friday, 29 September 2023 02:29 (two years ago)
while in the process of being disloyal
― lag∞n, Friday, 29 September 2023 02:29 (two years ago)
loyalty of course was not rewarded by absolutely insane guaranteed money extensions which are not mentioned once in that chris haynes piece
― call all destroyer, Friday, 29 September 2023 02:30 (two years ago)
it seems like dame and aaron goodwin misread joe cronin on a personal level. he is a grudge holder! the stuff about dame and the extensions is really backwards to me tho. the blazers put $120 million in front of him… was he supposed to say no? i would agree with dame that taking the money meant nothing as far as his loyalty goes. i don’t believe that anyone could say with a straight face that dame was supposed to turn down a free extension of $60m per year even if he intended to force his way out one day ultimately if you step back tho, this all ended up ok for dame. his reputation took a hit but success on the court absolves all sins and he ended up in a place where there’s a really good chance of achieving the kinda success that would make all this worth it. and none of us are the ones who have to live in milwaukee. except frogbs
― J0rdan S., Friday, 29 September 2023 02:58 (two years ago)
i mean he didnt get to go where he wanted and he looks a fool but at least hes not on the knicks
― lag∞n, Friday, 29 September 2023 03:04 (two years ago)
i would agree with dame that taking the money meant nothing as far as his loyalty goes.
right, his loyalty never meant anything. he took compensation and gave up his ability to pick his next team, except for some reason he thought he could still pick his next team.
― call all destroyer, Friday, 29 September 2023 03:18 (two years ago)
imo mostly he made his whole persona about how it’s other guys who chase rings not him he does the grind he works for the blazers then he asked to go to the eastern conference champs and now is on a team with the best player in basketball and he looks silly but yeah we will forget it all in a few months
― Clay, Friday, 29 September 2023 03:21 (two years ago)

― call all destroyer, Thursday, September 28, 2023 11:18 PM (nine minutes ago)
yes, dad
in reality, he did have some power to pick his next team. he just overestimated exactly how much power, and when to use that power. but there was still willingness on portland's end to work w/ him even until the bitter end.
being like "dame took their money, he should suck it up" is very weird to me personally, it's all a reaction to the owners trying to bend the rules of the league in their direction. tit for tat. dame isn't a victim by any stretch but i'm not gonna chide him for taking the money and trying to figure the rest out later. it's pretty rational behavior given the modern CBA... and again he wasn't wrong in assuming he'd have some power to dictate his next move
― J0rdan S., Friday, 29 September 2023 03:55 (two years ago)
dad otm tho
― mookieproof, Friday, 29 September 2023 03:59 (two years ago)
dame had longings and desires and these were not being fulfilled. he set about filling that empty space that money alone could not fill. not that he minded the money, of course, or expected any less money in the quest for fulfillment. he just wanted a rich and fulfilling NBA experience. and the money.
― more difficult than I look (Aimless), Friday, 29 September 2023 04:03 (two years ago)

Last February:
Damian Lillard set an NBA record in his monster scoring night on Sunday, racking up 71 points in 39 minutes, including 13 three-pointers, as the Portland Trail Blazers beat the Houston Rockets 121-114.With his effort, Lillard became the first player in NBA history to score more than 70 points in under 40 minutes and just the eighth player to hit the 70-point mark.He is also the only player on that elite list to score 70 over the age of 30...

Even a 'good stats on bad team' guy doesn't come up with one of those kinds of games without elite skills.

otoh they barely beat the rockets that night
― Clay, Friday, 29 September 2023 05:29 (two years ago)
reading that haynes piece i got curious about aaron goodwin. these are his nba clients:
damederozangp iimatisse thybullesouley boum
interesting that he has gp ii, who we will recall was at the center of one of the more nagl front office situations in recent memory when portland may or may not have played dirty trading him to the dubs. no particular obvious way goodwin would have taken that, but potentially some baggage in the room negotiating with cronin and the blazers...
