if the blazers get 2 firsts and a guy for jrue that's a haul of 3 firsts, 2 2 swaps, ayton and a guy for lillard. better than i would've guessed back in summer and obv way better than what miami was offering

don't forget it's for a package of lillard, nurkic, and some other guys, so we're also out from under nurk's contract. not too shabby.

felt like Jrue is really hot and cold when it comes to shooting, you either get 65% with several circus shots or 20% where he's clanking open 3s until he just stops taking them. unfortunately a lot of the latter in the playoffs but his regular season shooting numbers with Milwaukee were pretty good

if you got him on a team with a lot of offensive firepower he might be better but then why are you paying him so much to be a defensive specialist

it's the agent's responsibility to know the market and give good advice to their client. dame's only job is playing hoops.

the stuff about dame and the extensions is really backwards to me tho. the blazers put $120 million in front of him… was he supposed to say no? i would agree with dame that taking the money meant nothing as far as his loyalty goes. i don’t believe that anyone could say with a straight face that dame was supposed to turn down a free extension of $60m per year even if he intended to force his way out one day

ultimately if you step back tho, this all ended up ok for dame. his reputation took a hit but success on the court absolves all sins and he ended up in a place where there’s a really good chance of achieving the kinda success that would make all this worth it. and none of us are the ones who have to live in milwaukee. except frogbs

imo mostly he made his whole persona about how it’s other guys who chase rings not him he does the grind he works for the blazers then he asked to go to the eastern conference champs and now is on a team with the best player in basketball and he looks silly but yeah we will forget it all in a few months

in reality, he did have some power to pick his next team. he just overestimated exactly how much power, and when to use that power. but there was still willingness on portland's end to work w/ him even until the bitter end.

being like "dame took their money, he should suck it up" is very weird to me personally, it's all a reaction to the owners trying to bend the rules of the league in their direction. tit for tat. dame isn't a victim by any stretch but i'm not gonna chide him for taking the money and trying to figure the rest out later. it's pretty rational behavior given the modern CBA... and again he wasn't wrong in assuming he'd have some power to dictate his next move

dame had longings and desires and these were not being fulfilled. he set about filling that empty space that money alone could not fill. not that he minded the money, of course, or expected any less money in the quest for fulfillment. he just wanted a rich and fulfilling NBA experience. and the money.
