lag∞n, Saturday, 1 July 2023 01:46 (eleven months ago) link

just catching up here wtf is Chief Hélà

lag∞n, Saturday, 1 July 2023 01:51 (eleven months ago) link

the only way to win is not to play etc

ciderpress, Saturday, 1 July 2023 01:54 (eleven months ago) link

that jerami grant deal is truly nuts

lag∞n, Saturday, 1 July 2023 01:58 (eleven months ago) link

a working theory of the current cba and financial environment is "pay anyone on your team who can play because losing them for nothing is going to be worse" and yeah a lot of teams are going to put that to the test

call all destroyer, Saturday, 1 July 2023 02:02 (eleven months ago) link

it’s funny… after all the offseason content churning not much interesting stuff really happened today lol. bruce brown going to a non contender is pretty much the only thing that surprised me

J0rdan S., Saturday, 1 July 2023 02:02 (eleven months ago) link

which teams have actually gotten better in a real way…?

J0rdan S., Saturday, 1 July 2023 02:03 (eleven months ago) link

the only sense I can make of it is they expect the salary cap to go up so wildly in coming years that it will ultimately not be that big of a contract (this is dumb also) xps re jerami grant

Clay, Saturday, 1 July 2023 02:03 (eleven months ago) link

by the time all this is over i think the kyrie contract might not even be one of the 5 craziest deals given out

J0rdan S., Saturday, 1 July 2023 02:03 (eleven months ago) link

I like a couple of the lakers small moves

Clay, Saturday, 1 July 2023 02:04 (eleven months ago) link

xp re: brown, that was a surprising contract when it was announced and the structure is surprising too with the year 2 team option. i guess he was just looking for a serious chunk of money from someone since he hasn't made much to this point.

call all destroyer, Saturday, 1 July 2023 02:05 (eleven months ago) link

gabe vincent will be a good fit for them

J0rdan S., Saturday, 1 July 2023 02:06 (eleven months ago) link

yeah and indy needed to reach the salary floor xp

the big stuff is all happening via trades now. this part of the cycle is increasingly just filling the margins.

amid all this seth curry gets 4m

Sources: The Mavericks used their $4-plus million biannual exception on Seth Curry, a 43.5% career 3-point shooter returning for his third stint in Dallas. https://t.co/OJqOgrOFEr

seth is someone who seems better than the contracts he gets

call all destroyer, Saturday, 1 July 2023 02:07 (eleven months ago) link

i saw someone say this in relation to FVV the other day but apparently the TV deal is going up in two years & so it will be a good offseason to be a FA. that must be what the bruce brown thing is about

J0rdan S., Saturday, 1 July 2023 02:07 (eleven months ago) link

FVV would actually be a great fit next to luka

J0rdan S., Saturday, 1 July 2023 02:08 (eleven months ago) link

but they've limited annual cap raises to 10% so i'm not sure that will result in an insane amount of new money? idk maybe i'm wrong about that.

call all destroyer, Saturday, 1 July 2023 02:09 (eleven months ago) link

i’ll see if i can find the tweet in question

J0rdan S., Saturday, 1 July 2023 02:16 (eleven months ago) link

Middleton deal seems pretty favorable for the Bucks

frogbs, Saturday, 1 July 2023 03:26 (eleven months ago) link

Seems like the right deal for both sides. He needs to return to form tho

nobody respects the chair (Spottie), Saturday, 1 July 2023 03:50 (eleven months ago) link

seth is someone who seems better than the contracts he gets

Seems like he can’t stay healthy long enough to make a nice contract push in any given season

nobody respects the chair (Spottie), Saturday, 1 July 2023 03:51 (eleven months ago) link

5/260 haliburton
5/207 bane

nobody respects the chair (Spottie), Saturday, 1 July 2023 04:31 (eleven months ago) link

bane is a wonderful role player but hooo boy

J0rdan S., Saturday, 1 July 2023 05:08 (eleven months ago) link

i guess once all these guys eventually extend it will normalize but $41m a year is more than shai, ja, mitchell, garland, zion, bam, fox...

J0rdan S., Saturday, 1 July 2023 05:14 (eleven months ago) link

feelin a little better about the jerami grant contract

Clay, Saturday, 1 July 2023 05:15 (eleven months ago) link

how was bane eligible for such a big raise on a rookie extension without all-star/all-nba? is it just the cap space growth?

slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Saturday, 1 July 2023 05:19 (eleven months ago) link

i like halliburton a lot but thats a deal you make with the confidence that hes at least the second best guy on a contender.

slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Saturday, 1 July 2023 05:20 (eleven months ago) link

yeah bane is getting a 25% of the cap max which is non supermax so it’s just a reflection of the cap raising

all the writers on twitter are saying it’s a no brainer deal

J0rdan S., Saturday, 1 July 2023 05:51 (eleven months ago) link

he's really good! i dont know what the correct amount of money is for guys who are really good.

slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Saturday, 1 July 2023 05:52 (eleven months ago) link

like, the top (x) guys in the league, its obvious, just max and relax. for those secondary stars, i guess the standard operating procedure is to max them too but feel less good about it. the third guy...you cant max him and have any depth without plunging to tax hell. is bane their second best guy?

slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Saturday, 1 July 2023 05:54 (eleven months ago) link

he’s their third best player… he is better than MPJ who is a similar third best player (well theoretically anyway) on a max w/ other young core guys, but memphis does not have a jokic

what’s nuts tho is that JJJ is actually on a declining contract. $27m this coming year then $25m then $23m… gotta be one of the team friendliest deals in the league. that last year he’ll be making less than like half the league at this rate

J0rdan S., Saturday, 1 July 2023 06:01 (eleven months ago) link

JJJ: good contract for memphis

slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Saturday, 1 July 2023 06:04 (eleven months ago) link

the point abt jokic is key, if youve got an mvp-caliber player which at this point is not a lot of guys (jokic, giannis, embiid, maybe tatum, maybe luka, maybe steph still, not lebron anymore), fuck it, throw the bag at the team that meshes well with that guy. it's worked for the last few champions. i get that youd rather overpay a guy and then trade him if it gets untenable (ie disgruntled star, luxury tax not worth paying if the team is mid) then to let him walk for nothing, but it just feels like these teams cannot fuckin help it no matter how many cba guardrails they slip into to protect themselves from themselves.

slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Saturday, 1 July 2023 06:09 (eleven months ago) link

problem for memphis: ja is not that guy

slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Saturday, 1 July 2023 06:10 (eleven months ago) link

more like "mark" cuban am i right

so...jerami grant's deal...

slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Saturday, 1 July 2023 16:06 (eleven months ago) link

he’s hitting his agent like “i can just e-sign it right? did they email you last night?”

J0rdan S., Saturday, 1 July 2023 16:07 (eleven months ago) link

bittersweet gotta say

Clay, Saturday, 1 July 2023 16:10 (eleven months ago) link

miami probably the most desperate to do this deal, but brooklyn probably has he better offer available, right?

slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Saturday, 1 July 2023 16:11 (eleven months ago) link

yeah the obvious deal is with brooklyn

Clay, Saturday, 1 July 2023 16:12 (eleven months ago) link

i think the main question is whether dame wants to go to a place where he could plausibly win a title in the next few years (miami) or a place where he would be the center of the franchise w/ the ball in his hands and a pretty good team around him but not likely any better chance of winning a title than he had in his prime portland years (nets)

and i guess the sixers are gonna be in there too
