I'm just going to complain about the Athletic's site, I can't think of a good reason why it loads so slowly.

the culprit is always third party ad shit, tho ive seen much worse than this so idk why its so slow

Shouldn't be adblocker because it's most egregious on mobile browsers, on which I don't have them installed. What bugs me is that the page loads really slowly and doesn't seem responsive till everything loads -- I can't click articles right away and in my impatience I always end up going to the wrong link.

huh, a few days ago i was trying to use the app on my ipad and it couldn't even scroll an article smoothly, but then i switched to the website on safari (with no ad blockers) and it was fine. it does seem like they've gunked things up lately so that they can serve me the same bleu de chanel ad 12 times in a row.

Reader mode in Firefox is key for me reading both NY times and The Athletic. Especially on mobile

NBA coverage is not the Athletic's strong suit

also, all the comments on their NBA articles sound like hockey fans' opinions about basketball, which I've already been deeply overexposed to in this country

Anyone care to list/rank all of the pods of players (active and retired)? (I'll exclude radio show cranks (Rick Barry).) I do enjoy them in clips where a guest is telling funny stories or roasting Dillon Brooks, but have never felt the need to listen to an entire episode.

Every arena the NBA plays in wants to fill as many days as possible with events like boat shows, gun meets, music group tours, and monster truck competitions and there are all kinds of contractual obligations that have to be met about how those dates get filled, so you just know scheduling 30 teams for 82 games must be like putting together an enormous jigsaw with 500,000 pieces.

or a boat show

The Blazers played for decades in an arena that regularly held such events.

But even if my examples were not precise, the principle of arenas not wanting to stay empty is perfectly valid, which was my point.
