I could see a lot of teams wanting him at that price but would prob need to be a sign n trade situation
― Spottie, Tuesday, 20 June 2023 00:53 (two years ago)
Maybe the Kuminga rumors were wishful thinking from another team?
One of the exploratory conversations that surfaced, via ESPN, was a trade-up scenario involving Kuminga. From my understanding, that was an inbound call from a team in the lottery that has registered regular interest in Kuminga dating back a year. Multiple team sources have been adamant that the Warriors aren’t shopping Kuminga around.

it just makes sense to keep a guy with that skillset on a rookie deal.
― Spottie, Wednesday, 21 June 2023 22:39 (two years ago)
dray will get more than 60. my guess is 3/90 and possible a team option 4th year. but he already said he wants it to line up with the curry contract.
If this happens they offload Poole. There's no way they can flesh out this team to compete properly paying Draymond more than they are now and keeping everyone else. It's literally $ or championships, especially with the new CBA. What is this team without Donte DiVincenzo? That's the best they can do with the new CBA next year while paying a lot more in tax $ with Poole and Dray's new hypothetical deals. That's a lot of money to likely lose in the 2nd round again.
― octobeard, Thursday, 22 June 2023 00:24 (two years ago)
I think if they keep Dray they need to move Poole, not just for the money but for the vibes, too. What they do about Klay is where my interest tends. Steph strikes me as able to adjust to and accept major changes in the roster, but if the dubs choose to start a full rebuild around him I think he'll pull his foot off the accelerator and do some coasting while he scopes out his options.

I will simply not watch the 2nd team minutes this year
― Chyiv Kyiv (Fetchboy), Thursday, 22 June 2023 22:29 (two years ago)
Adding insult to injury, they traded PBJ for a 2nd round pick, I assume as further salary dump? He looked really promising last year! Solid defense and great 3 point stroke. Starting to understand why Bob left.
― Chyiv Kyiv (Fetchboy), Friday, 23 June 2023 16:54 (two years ago)
yeah i think it saves them a bunch of money and they think this trayce jackson davis can do more things to help immediately. basically every move now is to 1) maximize currys timeline and 2) save as much money on the fringes doing so
basically admitting that they messed up thinking they could do a two timelines thing and wasted a couple years of currys prime trying to thread the needle.
― Spottie, Friday, 23 June 2023 17:10 (two years ago)
well maybe one year - 2021. 2020 Curry was injured and 2023 they mostly ran back with the same group minus swapping DiVincenzo for OPJ. If Klay, Poole, Wiggins and the young guys not named Moses don't regress in the playoffs the way they did, they go much farther potentially. They still got a ring out of it, but yeah - the front office has absolutely been humbled.
― octobeard, Friday, 23 June 2023 17:18 (two years ago)
FWIW I actually like this deal. CP3, if they choose to keep him mostly on the bench, can anchor a 2nd unit really well and keep his minutes to around 20 a game. He can help slow the pace down, prevent teams from catching up nearly as quickly, and preserve his body. I would like to hope the locker room vibe improvements alone will make this trade a plus. Poole can tank command over in Washington without worrying about play time and put up 25/5 type stats (just ignore the TOV column) without worrying about committing himself to things like defense and improved ball handling/decision making. Got his bag and his ring, nicely done Jordan.
― octobeard, Friday, 23 June 2023 17:22 (two years ago)
Also this experiment is somewhat lower risk in that CP3 is only really on the hook for next year. Allows them to potentially sign Klay at a more reasonable rate, extend Kuminga potentially, and sign some veteran depth while remaining under the 2nd apron I think.

the biggest issue was committing real playing time to three raw talents and then adding two more rookies to that. just way too many roster spots wasted on guys that wouldnt be seeing playoff minutes (moody the only one that did). they started the year giving wiseman real playing time when by like game 3 they shoulda cut him out of the starting lineup and the rotation... if only they were actually trying to win games at that point. they dug a hole in the first quarter of the season that left no wiggle room for the curry/wiggins injuries/time-off. the punch didnt help either, obv.
― Spottie, Friday, 23 June 2023 17:32 (two years ago)
the CP/Poole trade makes a lot of sense yah, just... you know

high on their own supply, light years ahead
― lag∞n, Friday, 23 June 2023 17:58 (two years ago)
yeah and it makes the 2022 title that much more special honestly. even their own leaders were too busy trying to look ahead and they still got one despite it.
― Spottie, Friday, 23 June 2023 18:00 (two years ago)
they won a title with all those guys on the roster they don’t have to apologize for anything. it didn’t work but whatever. i don’t understand the virulent criticism that the warriors get over this
― J0rdan S., Friday, 23 June 2023 18:10 (two years ago)
i think their biggest mistake last year was not replacing the otto porter role in their rotation
― J0rdan S., Friday, 23 June 2023 18:11 (two years ago)
the two timelines plan was arrogant and dumb, dubs management thought they were the shit when a lot of it was luck, typical bay area billionaire behavior
― lag∞n, Friday, 23 June 2023 18:19 (two years ago)
apparently the guy they got at 57 is 23 years old, 3 years older than kuminga, hopefully he can contribute now

Saric in the Jerebko - Casspi big euro veteran role. Saric might be best of the lot.

Not too surprising:
• Dunleavy confirmed that the Warriors’ financial goal is to get below the second apron ($17.5 million above the luxury-tax line) by next offseason, which would get them back their taxpayer midlevel exception among other benefits.“Yeah, I think so,” Dunleavy said. “It’s just so punitive in terms of what it can do with tying up picks and penalize you with (taking away) exceptions and things like that. It certainly makes a ton of sense for us to do it. Now if there’s an opportunity that puts us as maybe the top team in terms of contending for a championship but we have to go over the second apron to do it, I think it’s a discussion to be had. But right now, our planning will be toward getting under the second apron and staying there. As our roster is constructed right now, it’s doable.”

basically saying theyre not going to resign klay no
― lag∞n, Friday, 4 August 2023 21:20 (two years ago)
klay's was good again last season, but not as good at his level before the injuries. the long rehab/layoff took him out of his zone.

― micah, Saturday, 5 August 2023 01:19 (two years ago)
I think he’ll do a draymond type deal
― nobody respects the chair (Spottie), Saturday, 5 August 2023 02:14 (two years ago)
Yeah, the thing I've been reading is that if Klay takes paycut, the Warriors can still keep him and come in under the second apron. Whether that's the FO floating the idea to the press as a negotiating tactic, I dunno.
― Albert Canoe (Leee), Wednesday, 9 August 2023 20:20 (two years ago)
I mean at some point every player not named Steph will need to take a paycut or adjust expectations if they want to keep this core together. Draymond did this, I presume Klay will too - and the way Klay can negotiate is on an extra player option year like Dray.
I do expect that no extension will be signed before the off season though like Dray - I don't think GS wants to make the same mistake they did with Poole on Klay's next deal and will play the year out in case he regresses further or gets injured again. He should also understand that if he cares about actually winning, keeping his and Dray's contracts reasonable allows for them to continue to sign dudes like CP3 or multiple high end role players to keep the team in contention.
― octobeard, Wednesday, 9 August 2023 21:56 (two years ago)
if they sign klay to the same deal as dray theyd be ~16m below the second apron with only 11 players under contract so even adding a midlevel guy would be dicey
theyre on the hook for $160 next year + $24m for klay = $184, 2nd apron is $182 this year assume 10% increase for next is $200m
https://hoopshype.com/salaries/golden_state_warriors/
of course theres always moves to be made trades letting rookie contract guys go etc
― lag∞n, Thursday, 10 August 2023 14:03 (two years ago)
I was under the impression they could walk away from or renegotiate CP3 next year too. Also wouldn't the cap go up a bit too? They might be in a tough spot to resign Kuminga though
― octobeard, Thursday, 10 August 2023 18:07 (two years ago)
yeah cap goes up but theyre so far over it it doesnt matter, and you cant renegotiate or cut contracts theyre on the hook for cp3s ~30m, i mean they could do a buyout with him but theyd end up paying almost the full amount anyway
― lag∞n, Thursday, 10 August 2023 18:12 (two years ago)
maybe they could stretch his contract not sure what the current deal with that is
― lag∞n, Thursday, 10 August 2023 18:18 (two years ago)
None of his salary for the 24-25 season is guaranteed
― Chyiv Kyiv (Fetchboy), Thursday, 10 August 2023 22:57 (two years ago)
ah shit my bad, i blame the website for not having that color coded
― lag∞n, Thursday, 10 August 2023 23:01 (two years ago)
if they resign klay cutting cp3 next year wouldnt really help them get any more guys as theyd still be over the cap, however trading cp3 + something during the season could, particularly considering teams will be trying to get under the second apron for next year
