tatum definitely had some brain lock happening in game 1 at the end, he had those three TO in a row while being guarded by strus. but i think that was him just having no rhythm and then trying to save the day. everything kinda came out all jumbled.

he did have 3 assists in the fourth last night so i think the idea that he just did nothing is a bit overblown. he missed some three pointers. he also put up 34-13-8 in a game where no other celtic had more than 16 points. i get the impulse to say what the TNT guys said which is “that’s not enough” given he didn’t make a shot in the 4th, but look at the heat. butler had the hero shots but robinson had like 8 points in the 4th, martin & vincent hit huge shots, bam was a beast etc. boston essentially had grant williams as the sole positive contributor around tatum.

i think w/ tatum, and idk if this is coaching or him, he needs to figure out his “spots” in those moments and how to get to them consistently. they will give him the ball in high screens and we also know he likes taking step back threes in those moments. that stuff does work for him but i.e. the heat do lots of off ball stuff with butler to get him the ball in different areas, or when he is iso-ing at the end he’s typically been getting two feet in the paint and shooting from there or passing to an open three. he has been getting to the baseline a lot in those moments as well to a bit more mixed results. i’d like to see tatum get to the point where he can really slow the game down, get to some points on the floor that feel like his office & then go to work from there. less randomness. prob just comes with time.

Late in the 4th Jimmy went to the exact same spot just to right of the basket in the paint over and over again it felt like.
