it should be like steal the bacon, ball on the floor at midcourt, teams sprint from baseline

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Monday, 8 May 2023 02:59 (three years ago)

jump ball v much feels like one of those "whatever, we'll figure out a better way later" things when the league was started, and then they never did

frogbs, Monday, 8 May 2023 03:04 (three years ago)

It's older than that. Way back there it was a jump ball after every made basket!

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Monday, 8 May 2023 03:05 (three years ago)

lol what

lag∞n, Monday, 8 May 2023 03:07 (three years ago)

^ By 'way back there' I'm talking hoops stone ages.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Monday, 8 May 2023 03:07 (three years ago)

thats wild

lag∞n, Monday, 8 May 2023 03:07 (three years ago)

yeah pre shot clock early ball this sounds familiar

ciderpress, Monday, 8 May 2023 03:11 (three years ago)

for denver it feels like the obvious adjustment by subtraction is less jeff green. the harder question is what do you do with those minutes. either jok has to go 45 mins or there’s going to be some vlatko cancar or zeke nnaji run

k3vin k., Monday, 8 May 2023 03:14 (three years ago)

yeah not sure that’s gonna happen… i bet in a game 7 green would barely play tho

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 May 2023 03:20 (three years ago)

Jayson Tatum today: 24 PTS, 18 REB, 6 AST, 4 BLK

He's one of five players in NBA history to reach those marks in a playoff game. The others:

Patrick Ewing

quietly insane gabe by tatum today. shame.

Joe Mazzulla on the final possession: “We just had to play with a little more pace there.”

— Jay King (@ByJayKing) May 7, 2023

sorry but this is cracking me up

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 May 2023 03:21 (three years ago)

quietly insane gabe, i know that guy

lag∞n, Monday, 8 May 2023 03:21 (three years ago)

idk i don't think it requires a timeout to remind your all-star players to maybe run their offense before 0:04

that's more on tatum because he thought he could create his own shot, and was wrong

mookieproof, Monday, 8 May 2023 04:09 (three years ago)

idk i don't think it requires a timeout to remind your all-star players to maybe run their offense before 0:04

you're talking hypothetically here but we quite very literally saw that, in actuality, a time out was required to get jayson tatum to start the offense prior to 4 seconds, as jayson tatum had the ball and didn't start the offense prior to 4 seconds

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 May 2023 04:35 (three years ago)

i think we all understand the logic behind not calling a time out in a missed shot scramble type situation where there is an ability to gain an advantage in the chaos and randomness that you wouldn't be able to get if the play was fully reset. but i'd be curious to hear mazzulla's philosophy as to what advantage he thinks his team gains by not calling a time out off a made basket when the defense is already set. is he worried about successfully inbounding the ball? does he just think his called plays aren't very good? does he think the celtics can't execute his plays and so everyone's just better off w/ the randomness? i don't understand on a base level what he thinks they're getting out of playing that way

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 May 2023 04:43 (three years ago)

it's also worth stating again that it's not even so much that he didn't call one timeout, but that he had two timeouts in a situation where his team was down 1 w/ more than enough time to get two possessions

from when harden hit the 3 w/ 16 seconds left to go up 1, the game should've played out in only one of four ways for boston

a. boston calls a time out, scores, plays defense, sixers don't score, boston wins
b. boston calls a time out, scores, plays defense, sixers don't score, sixers foul, boston wins
b. boston calls a time out, doesn't score, the sixers make two free throws, boston calls its second time out to get off a game tying 3
c. boston calls a time out, doesn't score, the sixers miss a free throw, boston calls its second time out and gets an attempt to either win or tie

instead they ended up w/ option e, which was get zero opportunities to win the game bcuz your team ran the clock out before shooting. i'm sorry but it was a complete coaching apocalypse, truly could not have been handled any worse

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 May 2023 04:51 (three years ago)

and to make matters even worse, philly “stole home court” in game 1 which means they can’t win this series simply by winning their remaining home games. or wait hold on a sec…..

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 May 2023 05:02 (three years ago)

jordan u are truly deranged my friend

k3vin k., Monday, 8 May 2023 11:41 (three years ago)

100% otm about the timeout tho, inexcusable

regardless calling the timeout and advancing the ball is the right thing to do because its faster, when youre behind you want to go fast, thats the basic principal

lag∞n, Monday, 8 May 2023 14:19 (three years ago)

I have to say I always understood that jeff green was a polarizing player, but having him on your team really crystallizes the experience. his whole career he’s been a role player who’s been thought of as a high-end starter, and now hes a sub-replacement level player who’s thought of as a role player. he has an insane poster dunk about once a week but is otherwise so, so harmful out there. this also gets to one of my pet issues about defense — see also discussions about jokic’s value — which is that rebounding is just so systematically overlooked as a part of defense both by casuals and even big-time talking heads. you just simply can’t be 6 foot 9 and rebound like you’re a foot shorter. the nuggets just get absolutely killed on the glass whenever jokic is sitting

love you buddy

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 May 2023 14:39 (three years ago)

both jokic and malone referring to ishbia as “a fan” in the post game was really funny

agreed

Great win for the Suns last night in an amazing series so far!
That should be and is the only story. Suspending or fining anyone over last nights incident would not be right. I have alot of respect for Jokic and don’t want to see anything like that. Excited for game 5! Go Suns!

"Go Suns" is a sentiment we can all agree on

symsymsym, Monday, 8 May 2023 15:00 (three years ago)

are the suns better without CP on the floor?

symsymsym, Monday, 8 May 2023 15:01 (three years ago)

it's a ridiculous way to run an offense but at least KD is getting enough touches

are the suns better without CP on the floor?

in games where any other person on the team is both willingly shooting and making threes. yeah probably

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 May 2023 15:52 (three years ago)

we are learning tho

Joe Mazzulla on no timeout: “It’s something we talked about all year. I trust my guys to make the right play.”

Still said with 14 seconds left you definitely want to get “as many chances as you can.” Said he would learn from that.

— Jay King (@ByJayKing) May 8, 2023

lag∞n, Monday, 8 May 2023 16:38 (three years ago)

love to learn from that

Spottie, Monday, 8 May 2023 16:39 (three years ago)

the nba playoffs are a journey

lag∞n, Monday, 8 May 2023 16:40 (three years ago)

just thinking about that game yesterday and i dont understand how horford is still this good on defense. he was in embiids head... he'll be 37 in a few weeks, 5 blocks 2 steals yesterday

Spottie, Monday, 8 May 2023 16:45 (three years ago)

yeah its crazy

lag∞n, Monday, 8 May 2023 16:49 (three years ago)

he also had by far his best 3pt shooting season this year

lag∞n, Monday, 8 May 2023 16:50 (three years ago)

yeah hes always shot them well in the offs though he's like 41% career

ciderpress, Monday, 8 May 2023 17:03 (three years ago)

i cannot agree on "Go Suns" sorry.

How about "Suns must go!"

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Monday, 8 May 2023 17:18 (three years ago)

hard to overstate what a nightmare philly fans avoided yesterday in what should have been a back breaking home loss in which all of the blame would have had to fall on embiid

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 May 2023 17:20 (three years ago)

yeah that was a huge win, it was looking like another late game embiid tired collapse. harden really saved the day.

Spottie, Monday, 8 May 2023 17:36 (three years ago)

just over here comparing jokic and embiid’s playoff performances so far…doing the judge judy laptop meme

k3vin k., Monday, 8 May 2023 17:40 (three years ago)

Philly didn't even look like they were running offensive plays in the 4th quarter, so many possessions had both Embiid and Harden right next to each other beyond the arc with 5 seconds left on the shot clock, resulting in a double covered Harden having to make something happen

frogbs, Monday, 8 May 2023 17:43 (three years ago)

next time the celtics should consider playing good in the first three quarters

lag∞n, Monday, 8 May 2023 17:44 (three years ago)

Per 100 possessions, the Knicks are generating ~60 closeout situations against Miami, which would have been No. 1 during the regular season.

New York is also producing 0.88 points-per-closeout - 0.72 against man-to-man - which would have been No. 30 during the regular season.

— Couper Moorhead (@CoupNBA) May 8, 2023

heat are basically leaving the knicks open as much as humanly possible and the knicks are taking advantage of those situations as poorly as humanly possible
