gotta score buckets to move on to the next round

lag∞n, Thursday, 16 March 2023 22:31 (one year ago) link

good thing virginia won that title i guess -- they have had some terrible tourney losses

shades of 1991 for arizona i guess

mookieproof, Thursday, 16 March 2023 23:34 (one year ago) link

Ragin’ Cajuns gave the Vols a good game.

Arkansas/Illinois is the game I think could be fun to watch. That could be an old school Big East slug fest, as both teams play pretty bare knuckles on D and at times shoot up total wtf you doing shots.

well I might have chosen the wrong year to completely block out college hoops because this uconn team is actually really fun

k3vin k., Friday, 17 March 2023 22:58 (one year ago) link

Yeah I stopped following college hoops and regret not following nc state this year bc terquavian smith looks fun. Kid could turn into a good pro

fun game too

symsymsym, Saturday, 18 March 2023 01:31 (one year ago) link

how is this even possible

Double-digit seed losses by Purdue under Matt Painter:

16 seed (2023)
15 seed (2022)
13 seed (2021)
12 seed (2016)
11 seed (2011)

FDU didn't even win their conference? they are here because of "merrimack's reclassification ineligibility" whatever that means?

call all destroyer, Saturday, 18 March 2023 02:41 (one year ago) link

just seeing the highlights but that giant guy on purdue looks like a complete stiff

call all destroyer, Saturday, 18 March 2023 02:43 (one year ago) link

i have now learned that FDU is the shortest team in division 1

yeah it’s gotta be sad to be one of the 80% of 7 footers who don’t play in the NBA lol

k3vin k., Saturday, 18 March 2023 02:55 (one year ago) link

xpost Merrimack is ineligible for the postseason for 4 years because they are transitioning from DII to DI. everyone hates the rule, but it's the rule. so FDU knew they were dancing when they won their conference semi.

Edey was fine last night - he let it get swatted away from him too many times, but overall, he was good. but FDU's gameplan + his so-so teammates + mounting pressure + Matt Painter's tactical paralysis killed them. Painter *had* to figure out a way to make it easier for them to get Edey the ball, and he didn't. Credit to FDU and their coach.

Purdue has not been to the final four since 1980.
30 tournament appearances
10 big 10 titles

Literally the poster child for Big 10 being terrible in March.

The Artist formerly known as Earlnash, Saturday, 18 March 2023 20:04 (one year ago) link

i guess it's tough to fire a guy who gets you a 4-seed or better every year, but three straight first-round exits as a 4-, 2- and 1-seed is absolutely brutal

Painter *had* to figure out a way to make it easier for them to get Edey the ball, and he didn't.

otm. 26 of their 53 shots -- against the smallest team in division i! -- were from three. they made five

mookieproof, Saturday, 18 March 2023 20:17 (one year ago) link

building your team around a big ol slow footed post up center is not really something that strikes fear into ones opponents in the year 2023 i think is part of the problem

lag∞n, Saturday, 18 March 2023 20:20 (one year ago) link

if you’re 7-4 and not a serious NBA prospect it’s fair to say you’re not that good at basketball

k3vin k., Saturday, 18 March 2023 20:27 (one year ago) link

edey had 21 points and 15 rebounds on 11 shots. the rest of the team was 12-for-42. he doesn't have to be an nba prospect for a decent coach to realize that he should have gotten the ball more

mookieproof, Saturday, 18 March 2023 20:38 (one year ago) link

tbf, last year Purdue made it to the Sweet Sixteen before losing to a 15 seed (St. Peters who beat 2 seed Kentucky in the first round).

Judi Dench's Human Hand (methanietanner), Saturday, 18 March 2023 20:45 (one year ago) link

im sure they wouldve liked to get him the ball more but part of the problem with a guy like that is its just not that hard to disrupt a slow mechanical post up process xp

you should play him one on one and see just how not that good he is!

alpine static, Sunday, 19 March 2023 07:35 (one year ago) link

like i know that's a goofy response but it's not fair to say the guy isn't good at basketball just because he isn't a great fit in the current NBA. he's about to be named national player of the year at the highest level of non-professional basketball in the United States.

good games today. nice to see little guys like Markquis Nowell on K State go off

ucla and gonzaga should play every year

deadmauZedong (voodoo chili), Friday, 24 March 2023 04:54 (one year ago) link

I'm prepared to be wrong, but no matter how many points Timme scored tonight, I have a hard time believing in his game would make any kind of splash in the NBA.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Friday, 24 March 2023 05:14 (one year ago) link

hard to imagine him being any better than low-post college threat Frank Kaminsky

christ you are some sour motherfuckers

ffs this is the NCAA HOOP thread, not the 'these guys could never inspire mark cuban to protest a game' thread. dude went 16-24 and led his team to an upset.

go watch the blazers if you want to see super-talented guys do nothing important

mookieproof, Friday, 24 March 2023 06:22 (one year ago) link

I'm not a sour motherfucker! The one thing I really like about watching college ball is that you can watch a lot of players who'd be undersized in the NBA find ways to dominate

symsymsym, Friday, 24 March 2023 13:08 (one year ago) link

markquis nowell to thread

deadmauZedong (voodoo chili), Friday, 24 March 2023 13:27 (one year ago) link

love that dude and the whole ksu team. they just want to do the most fun thing possible on every play.

half court shot? foul line dunk? no look alley oop in overtime? do it if it makes you happy

deadmauZedong (voodoo chili), Friday, 24 March 2023 13:29 (one year ago) link

Fake arguing with your coach to distract the defense before throwing a half-look pass for a reverse alley-oop to break a 92-92 tie in the final minute of OT in a Sweet 16 game at MSG might be the coolest shit I’ve ever seen pic.twitter.com/10E8CJEvkW
