Payton, according to sources, had been playing through pain in Portland. Sources added that the Blazers training staff had been pushing him to gut through it, giving him Toradol shots. This had not been relayed to the Warriors during the negotiation process.

a failed physical exam voiding a trade isn't unheard of, but it's pretty damn rare. the toradol thing is just gross. this fiasco is gonna make it hard for the blazer front office to do trades in the future and dissuade free agents, too. they really fucked up.

not that i don't believe it, but this is obviously all being sourced from the warriors and there's another side to the story. it does add to the general feeling that things are not good w/how the blazers are being operated.

I'd imagine the dubs still go through with it since gpii wasn't just a half-season rental and they don't have any other options since the trade deadline passed but there should be some kind of penalties for PDX and restitution for the dubs if the dealings really were that shady. Portland should at least have to pay gpii's salary til he's healed up so the league can ensure that lacob diverts the luxury tax savings to ILH as is appropriate.

LOS ANGELES -- After the LA Clippers traded point guards Reggie Jackson and John Wall away on Thursday's deadline, Paul George and Marcus Morris Sr. made it no secret that they want the Clippers to add Russell Westbrook should he become available.

Westbrook was traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Utah Jazz on Wednesday. However, if Westbrook were to seek and receive a buyout of his contract, George let it be known that he would love to be reunited with his former Oklahoma City Thunder backcourt mate.

George was asked what Leonard, who did not play Friday night because of knee injury management, thinks of the idea of adding Westbrook.

"He likes it," George said. "But I mean, you got to talk to [him] for his answer."
