He did not tell reporters when he deleted the post or why, specifically, he chose to do so aside from explaining that he deletes posts frequently. He then went on to criticize the media for the way it covered the incident.

"I did it because I care about my family, and I have Jewish members of my family that care about me deeply. Did the media know that beforehand when they called me that word, antisemitic? No. Did they know anything about my family? No. Everything was assumed, everything was put out before I had anything to say, and I reacted instead of responding emotionally maturely. I didn't mean to be defensive or go at anybody, so I stand by my apology and I stand by my people, everywhere, all walks of life, all races, all religions, same thing."

Kyrie Irving, off to a successful start with the Dallas Mavericks, said he is happy that former teammate Kevin Durant also is no longer a member of the Brooklyn Nets.

Irving told reporters late Wednesday night that he is "glad that [Durant] got out of there" just minutes after ESPN reported the Nets had agreed to trade the former NBA MVP to the Phoenix Suns.
