the thing they shouldve done if they wanted to tank was trade some guys before the season

the middle of the east is still very competitive. missing hali for a few weeks (and maybe turner too, he just missed a game) could easily drop them to 10th or lower.

pacers arent going to get wembanyama but they might rather have pick 3-7 instead of be trying to claw their way into the playin in march. there was also the feeling before the start of this season that everyone in the org (including ownership and rick) was ok with soft tanking for a season.

i was reading the mock draft that went up in the athletic today and it seems like there’s some mystery after the top 2 right now, a lot of raw prospects and such. ppl don’t seem to be talking about any of the prospects outside of the top 2, but maybe that’s bcuz wembanyama and scoot suck up so much energy

amazing ben simmons has just fully decided to never shoot again, ~12 attempts a game his first four seasons to 6 this year 5 ft attempts to 1 now, its crazy, he just played 26min against the celtics and had zero points 9 rebound and 13 assists a near double double with zero points he attempted three shots and no free throws

he used to score 16 points a game thats a good contribution now hes down to 8 rock bottom for a starter

lol he tried to go to the bucket once in the portion of the game i watched and, well, it did not work

these Lakers possessions are pure chaos

what the hell are they doing why are they scrambling trying to dribble out the clock you can't take off enough time to make that worthwhile but you can absolutely turn it over and give up the game

the mavs are forced to use a challenge because the refs just outright forgot who they called a foul on

the lakers letting luka switch onto schroeder and bringing no help was not a good idea

westbrook unnecessarily shoulder checks luka to the floor right in front of lil wayne

he got called for a take foul + flagrant 1 combo which meant the mavs could pick any player to shoot two free throws and get possession. in a tie game in overtime

of course they pick luka and he misses both free throws lol

it'll be interesting to see if the elevated floor and massive arena space effects play. there were always theories that this setup messes with shooters in the later rounds of the ncaa tournament. and people speculate that louisville's kevin ware had that horrific fall (in 2013 or so) because he was trying to avoid falling off the elevated platform

this one the riser seems pretty small but sometimes theres a like a two foot drop off thats obviously unsafe

doesnt seem like the extra space should affect the quality of play its not like guys havent played in all sorts of gyms practice courts outdoors etc but maybe it could add some sort of weirdness

its true he just moves different than anyone. like his stepbacks last night were slow and methodical and he kinda takes a little while to set his shot up and theres still nothing the defender can do.

I went to a Final Four game at the Vikings stadium, it is a weird vibe. The weirdest thing is they were piping in "basketball sounds" like shoes squeaking or maybe they had mics by the floor to catch it and then play it over the speakers

yeah its not a good way to watch hoops. i went to a final four game at a football stadium and i wont be doing that again.

his dribble game is basically a long series of hesitation moves with bumping guys off balance mixed in xp luka

yeah all about angles and balance and he's superior at those compared to whatever defender is in front of him

then he hits difficult shots or makes perfect passes

lot of rumblings about the hawks' owner meddling in decision making. in familiar territory here gotta love it

the sam amick article in the athletic today about this situation was very alarming. their front office now is basically landry fields, the owner's 27 year old son and two of his friends

General manager Landry Fields, the 34-year-old former NBA player who was elevated from his assistant general manager role in June, who now heads the front office after the shakeup and who previously worked for the San Antonio Spurs as a scout and general manager of their G League team.

Nick Ressler, the 27-year-old son of Hawks owner Tony Ressler who has had increased influence on roster and staffing decisions during his time as the team’s Director of Business and Basketball Operations (starting in December 2020), according to league sources who like all the other sources in this story were granted anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the situation.

Ryan Silverstein, the team’s coordinator of cap strategy and administration and a close friend of Nick Ressler’s who, according to his LinkedIn page, became a front office assistant for the Hawks in September 2017.

Grant Liffmann, the 35-year-old who spent his last six seasons covering Golden State as a media member for NBC Sports Bay Area and who was hired as a pro personnel scout in June and is close friends with Fields.
