this lauri season is really cool, hopefully its not a one season (or half season) thing!

need a breakdown of whats allowing him to flourish on the jazz that wasnt on the bulls and cavs

usage plus apparently he balled out in the euro basket and gave him all this confidence

i think theyre really letting him play like a 1st option ie dribble a lot where on those other teams they had him spaced out at the 3pt line and he could attack the closeout but wasnt really free to just try to create, cld be one of those things where hes on a heater and ends up not really be efficient enough to play that was, pretty sick heater tho if it is one

i was listening to some podcast (i think zach lowe) and someone compared lauri this season to julius randle in the post-bubble season which i thought made a lot of sense. he’s prob playing at his peak while being in a situation where the offense revolves around him & being a .500ish team feels like a wonderful accomplishment

he was def out of position in cleveland, i guess you can give their front office credit for seeing him as a legit player but putting him at the 3 with two other 7 footers on the floor was always farcical. and i think those bulls teams were just actively harmful… the line ups were like lavine, kris dunn, lauri, wendell carter being coached by jim boylen. prob one of the worst environments you could have in the NBA as a young player

yeah sounds about right, wonder if he could be a second option on a good team, kind of a weird spot where no one is going to want to trade a big package for him based on a half a season of nice production but on the other hand it might be good for the jazz to trade him now maybe theres a reasonable deal in there somewhere, tho ainge is not known for making reasonable deals so idk

he would be cool as the #2 guy on the mavs imo

was thinking the same but some risk there too his defense isnt good and wld have to go back to playing mostly off ball with luka, plus maybe he just turns back into a pumpkin, if the mavs could get him for cheap then yeah sure but otherwise think they shd try to find someone better like siakim

xp does their offense revolve around him though? at least early in the season i thought i heard he was getting a lot of his offense through transition and random actions...he has 2nd-highest usage on the team but it's 24.9%, not a crazy number or anything.

anyway i'd hate to see him go back to having to stand around watching some ball-dominant dude work, he seems like someone who particularly benefits from a more free-flowing game.

a generous way to look at it is it’s just creating a comp, not necessarily that lamelo and dame are the best players ever

the athletic did an article the other day about how good of a shot blocker derrick white is and they pulled out this stat “block percentage” (without explaining what it was) in which derrick white is a better blocker than *checks notes* giannis, bam and dray

from bball reference: "Block percentage is an estimate of the percentage of opponent two-point field goal attempts blocked by the player while he was on the floor."

derrick has been a prolific shot-blocking guard his whole career, he's in a class with d wade and danny green
