lol i should clarify for me it has been literally broken, like i would select a game to watch and it would just go to a black screen and not load. all the bad ux and weird stuff is still there not to worry

2015-2017 felt like everyone thought future was 6'6 centers and in 2022 it has turned to 7'0ft'ers who just do things wings can, lol.

Personally, I'd never draft anyone under 6'3 anymore unless they're 99th percentile athlete or scorer.

college basketball is a markedly inferior product in every way but this is part of the reason why i still watch (well, and because i have a rooting interest). it's fun to watch basketball "as it used to be," where traditional post bigs or fun little guys or large white guys with 18 foot range can make an impact

this is true of course in the abstract (every team needs a second star) but the confusing thing about the mavs this year is that they're 21st in defense and 8th in offense. so there's something else going on at the root of it beyond just luka needing help

often a playoff series says as much about the loser as it does the winner (i.e. hawks over sixers in the semis) and the mavs are looking like they might fall into that category and perhaps even an extreme version when you consider the two teams they beat were utah (perpetually in turmoil and then immediately disbanded) and phoenix (triggered into turmoil by a legendary meltdown)

mavs playing good defense last year was weird considering they dont have a very defensively talented roster good offense bad defense is more what i would expect from them

a huge issue that no coach can fix is that finney-smith and bullock are both shooting 31% from three after being in the high 30s each of the last two seasons. that's essentially the basis of their whole offense

also Kidd's Bucks teams were notoriously awful on defense

despite having a ton of dudes with unreal wingspans

kidd's bucks teams played a scheme that was so impossible for the players that no one has tried anything like it since. last year the mavericks seemed to get by with decent positional defense in a conservative scheme, but luck with that can go away quickly.

gotta be one of the biggest post championship slips that didn’t involve major roster overhaul

yeah pretty crazy

they got rid of some really efficient roleplayers that people may have been undervaluing

idk none of the guys they lost are even getting minutes

but they did make the role players work last year in a way that theyre just not this

last year there werent any close to dominant teams, the dubs were a weak champ, looking like theres not any great teams this year either

the other thing is that w/ each year teams devalue the regular season more and more there's prob some line of demarcation when load management really started to matter and teams like the warriors are just like "eh we'll see you in the playoffs"

poole's shooting has been real bad for the amount he plays, he's down to replacement level this season in the bbref stats pretty huge downswing from last year that's probably a lot of the difference right there

if the warriors make it into the playoffs healthy you'd still have to put them up there w/ any team in the west based on how that conference is looking so far

yeah theoretically theyre still in the mix but idk they might be cooked too

they need trades
