have thought all offseason that the heat could really use john collins but not sure i see a trade fit there

wonder what the hawks are thinking theyre getting back

yeah i dont get it, he produces and is really their only 4 of note, not like theyre bringing up a youngster behind him or somethign right? if anything they have a log jam at center and should be moving off capella to free up minutes for okongwu? maybe okongwu can play the 4?

if they could add some wing shooting they could shift hunter to the 4 in closing line ups to play with trae, murray, a shooter and a center. but how many teams are looking to trade wing shooting for a power forward (albeit one who can shoot, this season aside)

Yah I thought of hunter to the 4 but not sure he can rebound well enough, then again I didn’t think Wiggins could and he figured it out. Thats prob the most intriguing option, and with bogdon coming back would free him up for more minutes too. Idk tho, just seems like they want to get off a good player on a fair contract, maybe there’s some locker room or off court issues or maybes he’s asking out behind the scenes. Or maybe they want to duck the tax or lower their penalty?

He’s much improved on D as well. I have no idea why they do this every year. I will say that Collins does struggle posting up consistently, but he’s pretty good in other regard

collins is a good basketball player he just plays an extinct position more or less. he’s good enough to make you dream on it but the hawks have seemed to think he was ill fitting for a while and there’s prob not tons of teams lining up to take on a well paid big who isn’t much of a force around the basket but also isn’t an amazing shooter either

bet hed be pretty good on an up tempo ball movement team like say the warriors

he makes the most sense to me as a small ball 5 who on a good offensive team who plays against back ups a lot and it doesn’t matter that he’s not a center bcuz all you’re trying to do anyway is outscore the other team when he’s on the floor. so christian wood’s role on the mavs basically. it’s harder to fit him into a starting line up for me

he cant just play power forward whats the problem its ok there are still power forwards the celtics (#1 team in the nba) start grant williams

but grant can play defense, he can guard wing players and bigger guards

the peak archetype of the player collins is trying to be is horford on boston where he can play 4 with another center and can also play 5 in small line ups. but horford is overall better on offense (or at least more reliable) and certainly on defense where he’s a plus. when that guy can’t actually play defense it’s tough. you’re kelly olynyk… except a worse shooter? it starts to make sense that they have trouble trading him when you break it down

from what i can tell the heat are already shifting into “let’s just get into the playoffs and figure it out from there” mode which isn’t a great place to be in

i dont think hes olynyk bad on d hes kind of ok, also hes a good offensive player he put up 22-10 on 58/40/80 a couple years ago even tho the hawks have never really found the right mix for him

my conclusion is that he and trae must have like negative on-court chemistry

The thing with Collins is he’s just one of those guys who can disappear on offense. He gets pushed out of his sweet spots pretty easily and you’re not going to get many massive games out of him. He’s just kind of solid but I’m not sure what they’re expecting back for him. I’m totally cool with it if the plan is to get okongwu more time, because that kid’s a long way from being a perimeter threat

ugly game from the extremely short-handed nuggets last night. DAJ has remembered to rebound and has had the best +/- on the team in consecutive nights. still loving bruce brown and KCP out there. eventually everyone will be playing at the same time…hopefully…

unbelievable that giannis continues to shoot 3s hes taking over 3 a game this year and hitting less than a quarter of them

i know guys do it but the whole go back on the court and put up shots after the game when a bunch of stadium workers just want to do their jobs and go home thing is weird
