kind of nitpicky since the celtics are currently lapping the league on offense but what is up with their defense, they were first in defrtg last year and theyre 22nd this, some of it is obvs rob is out and the guys getting minutes behind him kornet et al are not that good, and then theyve been going small a lot white or brogdon replacing rob in the starting 5, but still the effort just doesnt seem there, maybe theyre too good at offense to care about dirt dog defense now idk

they were not great defensively two years ago in brads last year too after a multi year run near the top, i figured they were just sick of brad but maybe it was defense they were sick of and the only thing that could make them care was ime calling them soft in press conferences

generally teams without a good center don't rate well on defense in the reg season. horf getting too old to be that guy anymore

having a big scary guy in the paint is the best way to defend without playing at playoff intensity all the time

i mean yes i agree but also theyre just kinda of dogging it which maybe is fine its a long season but i dont think you really want to get in the habit of playing bad defense, like if they were more middle of the pack it wouldnt concern me but theyve been bad

the last couple games have been better, i think they’ll be middle of the pack soon enough but yes i would like to see some lockdown performances in the near future.

my theory about their perimeter defense is that they sag a little because they lack “rim protection” (sorry). everybody’s slightly worried they’re going to need to help inside so they don’t stick to their guys like glue out there, and give up a lot of uncontested or only semi-contested jumpers

yeah the big man rotation is def the... central problem, and i do think they should pickup a good backup defensive center when they get the chance, but also it just seems like the dog is not in them so far, theyre having such a nice time doing pretty offense

i thought their offense would be better this year what with adding brogdon and hauser to the mix but this is ridiculous they are really playing the shit out of the offense out there, have to think theyll cool down at some point but it does seem like theyve really found another gear, ball is moving really well creating tons of open looks barely seems like the opposing defense is there at all sometimes

even jaylen is making consistently nice reads, its so much easier when everyone else is doing it too so youre facing a defense already on its heals

i tuned in near the end of the first half and the boston defense looked absolutely lethargic. surprised they pulled it out tbh. should not need a superman performance from tatum to beat the pistons smh. they were v shorthanded i guess

that walking the dog ploy is genius, seems like something that will be addressed next year tho. could just force the ball to be touched within a beat of the inbounds, even when used in last 2 minutes it seems like a gimmick that’s run its course

that said, I too was unclear how Tatum caught a tech until they did a close up on the replay and it's pretty clear he says "fuck" which is apparently enough for a tech if you're nationally televised!
