i agree they should get a wing idk who though
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 9 November 2022 19:31 (three years ago)
siakam (big wing, best type of guy)
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 9 November 2022 19:37 (three years ago)
the problem with zinger more than anything was that he was bad because of injuries
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 9 November 2022 19:38 (three years ago)
also a black hole

Just checked the standings, didn't know the Pelicans are also underwhelming out the gate

LeBron James says rest is the only way to get over his left foot pain, but says that he doesn’t have the luxury to take more time off. He says he will plays tonight against the Clippers.— Dave McMenamin (@mcten) November 9, 2022

pels have a good point diff and have had starters in and out of the lineup i think

LeBron the stat-chaser
― more difficult than I look (Aimless), Wednesday, 9 November 2022 20:15 (three years ago)
he should, all time career points leader is the only thing left he can accomplish on that team
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 9 November 2022 20:17 (three years ago)
ive watched a pels game and they were not convincing. coaching is an issue and starting cj and jv doesnt work
― micah, Wednesday, 9 November 2022 20:21 (three years ago)
xp - lebron chasing the all time scoring record is about the only reason for fans to come to the laker games this season, too

im not sure zion and ingram maximize eachother out there either. might just be a matter of finding the right rotations cos they have pieces that make sense
― im a beacon of light (Spottie), Wednesday, 9 November 2022 20:30 (three years ago)
they should trade for hield and myles turner
― micah, Wednesday, 9 November 2022 21:01 (three years ago)
yeah seems like a tema that might b e able to mutually improve trading with the right team
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 9 November 2022 21:05 (three years ago)
i mean even i can admit the hawks fucked up not taking Luka. i get it and still think Trae is, skill-wise, just as good as Luka but you can't teach size and Trae is tiny.
― Heez, Wednesday, 9 November 2022 22:08 (three years ago)
maybe the hawks just had pictures of them where they looked the same size
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 9 November 2022 22:15 (three years ago)
pels have that lakers pick right. should be worth something
― micah, Wednesday, 9 November 2022 22:20 (three years ago)
unclear how the pels went from scrappy borderline playoff team to having all these expectations but i say give em a minute to figure it out

Being one of the 6-8 best franchises with a transcendent player (and Nash for a big chunk of that time) kind of points to the reason Cuban/Mavs FO don't get that much respect.
They had Dirk and instead of drafting well and building around him for 20 years (like the Spurs) Cuban would go on tilt for a second superstar (who wasn't going to come to Dallas), following DeAndre Jordan around town or promising that this time he'd get Shaq, for real though.
― papal hotwife (milo z), Wednesday, 9 November 2022 23:27 (three years ago)
I agree that the Dallas FO is wack
― Heez, Wednesday, 9 November 2022 23:50 (three years ago)
lol yeah they didn’t win 6 titles so they shouldn’t get any respect. all they did was make the playoffs 15 out 16 years between 2000 and 2016, but if only they had built around dirk. also the deandre jordan thing was 2015. dirk was 36 at that point. i think you’re conflating your timelines
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 9 November 2022 23:51 (three years ago)
Both things can be true
― Heez, Wednesday, 9 November 2022 23:52 (three years ago)
i’m looking at stats muse right now, the mavs have played in the fifth most playoff games since 2000 and won the seventh most. they’re one of eight franchises (lakers, spurs, heat, celtics, warriors, cavs, pistons, mavs) to have appeared in at least two finals and won at least one in that time. so what’s the bar to clear for being a good franchise? who’s making the cut? miami, boston, san antonio, and golden state?
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 9 November 2022 23:59 (three years ago)
"They made a lot of weird decisions" and "were pretty terrible at drafting and coaching up young players" doesn't mean no respect, just that the areas they could have done better are glaringly obvious and make it harder to believe they'll successfully build around Luka. One really good draft pick in 20 years does not make me think they'll pull off another one any time soon.
Not sure how the Jordan year matters, it was an example of Cuban's sometimes bizarre behavior (and poor decision making) when it comes to getting his guy (who he inevitably does not get). That behavior has not subsided.
― papal hotwife (milo z), Thursday, 10 November 2022 00:01 (three years ago)
No one said they're not a good franchise. The thing about having an all time great is that you can be a good franchise for a long time without making a lot of good decisions otherwise.
Cuban got lucky that Dirk never left, will the same be true of Luka if he doesn't have a ring by 27-28?
― papal hotwife (milo z), Thursday, 10 November 2022 00:03 (three years ago)
dirk was a great player. he won one MVP and made first team all NBA four times. i think you guys are a bit over your skis in your thinking of how many titles players of that caliber typically win
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 10 November 2022 00:05 (three years ago)
sorry you were explaining to me why they don’t get “that much respect.” so they’re a good franchise but they also don’t get that much respect? what’s wrong with this picture then?
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 10 November 2022 00:07 (three years ago)
if the argument is simply that the mavs could’ve done better then i’m not really sure what we’re talking about. i’m hard pressed to think of any franchise that couldn’t have done better over a 20 year stretch
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 10 November 2022 00:13 (three years ago)
Maybe the question is, if f you had to pick a front office to run your team, where would you rank them. I vote below the hawks current FO
― Heez, Thursday, 10 November 2022 00:39 (three years ago)
And I’d put the hawks FO squarely in the middle
so they’re a good franchise but they also don’t get that much respect?
Yes. Since 2000 been a pretty good franchise (courtesy of two great players, only one that was actually picked by Cuban and his team - also worth noting that Cuban inherited not just Dirk but Nash and Finley on that original crew - and Don Nelson) that could have been something more than good over the course of those two decades if the front office wasn't making a series of bad deals and lousy draft picks. One hot draft pick every 20 years is not a good FO track record!
Between blowing up the championship team and Luka - eights seasons were spent half scraping into the playoffs for a first round exit and half missing the playoffs completely.
― papal hotwife (milo z), Thursday, 10 November 2022 01:55 (three years ago)
if your team has a top 2 player your work as a gm is 90% done. its tough to evaluate the last 10%, theres only so many comparisons you can draw
― micah, Thursday, 10 November 2022 02:30 (three years ago)
i think last time we went through this on our humble hoops board someone looked up the mavs draft history and it was pretty dire
― micah, Thursday, 10 November 2022 02:34 (three years ago)
i think that did happen and i don't need to look it up, it's not good whatsoever
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 10 November 2022 02:42 (three years ago)
Man the Jazz. I hope Nate eventually realizes that the hawks defense is only good when okongwu’s playing.
― Heez, Thursday, 10 November 2022 03:15 (three years ago)
jazz situation too funny
― lag∞n, Thursday, 10 November 2022 03:19 (three years ago)
i'm not pushing back per se, but i took a look and okongwu was a -17 tonight so curious what you're seeing out there
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 10 November 2022 03:19 (three years ago)
nothing the jazz do makes any sense, tonight most of their starters sucked but jordan clarkson plus the bench shredded the hawks
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 10 November 2022 03:20 (three years ago)
these guys are 10-3 and do they have a top 40 player on their roster?
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 10 November 2022 03:21 (three years ago)
well, it's a team game
― more difficult than I look (Aimless), Thursday, 10 November 2022 03:22 (three years ago)
yeah but teams without top 40 players are not good
