i've been thinking about something in the context of the bad starts for the nets and lakers and a few other teams who arguably have a couple top 20 players--the league is so deep that having a couple guys like that doesn't give teams the floor that it used to. players 3 through 9 matter more than ever, roster construction and fit matters more than ever. i don't know if it's right but that's absolutely how it feels when you watch the nets and lakers get blown off the floor because their role players suck.
