i do feel like few star players escape scrutiny to the level that embiid has in his career. every failure of that franchise has been chalked up to someone or something else. i can’t think of a player who has been as close to winning MVP as he has on multiple occasions and still gets zero blame for not ever getting past round 2. and of course now being 0-3 is doc’s fault. the third rail that nobody wants to seem to touch is whether embiid has the personality to lead a franchise to a title. i would find it alarming if i was invested in the sixers that embiid openly looks elsewhere (to jimmy butler, to PJ tucker) to try and import the leadership, discipline, toughness etc that a player of his stature is supposed to possess himself.

same reason people don't really scrutinize Aaron Rodgers, the team has a lot of other legitimate problems and when he's out you get a glimpse of how bad they can really be. you had the shit that happened with Fultz and Simmons, plus he was badly banged up last year. so I think he kinda gets a pass but people have been turning on him and he'll definitely catch a lot of shit this year

Even though I love my guy, I pretty much agree with this. You have to give him credit for working on his game each year, but he is also incredibly immature - looking to get bailed out by the refs all the time and the endless turnovers drives me nuts. When they don't get past the second round this year, I think you will see Philly turn on him, maybe even before.

Probably a bigger issue is their four offseason acquisitions had a total of 5 points v the Spurs. They all look like guys who will be hunted for mismatches in the postseason.

true, watching him in that game + highlights of others id say hes less skilled but more physical than advertised, he can do a lot of stuff hes clearly put the work in but maybe doesnt totally have the fine touch, but he is actually a beast and very not afraid to mix it up, his fullest manifestation is maybe more of a guy who creates easy shots via bullying than a great shot maker, but to really achieve his potential he will need to learn to hoist, getting to average seems pretty doable and would be fine, but if he became a good shooter then thered be real trouble, not sure about the defense if he could get to the point where he can play small ball 5 he could be pretty sick

the biggest thing is that joel is shooting really inefficiently even tho he is getting his numbers, but yeah the lack of bench output is concerning, like melton and house and harrell are all good players!
