top ten huggable player

As expected, those second unit lineups with donte/poole/kuminga/JGreen/wiseman looked rough as hell last night, but JaMychal already seems like a perfect fit playing next to starters.

Chyiv Kyiv (Fetchboy), Wednesday, 19 October 2022 22:58 (one year ago) link

kuminga and wiseman prob shouldnt be playing together but theyre gonna be trying a lot of lineups out this season. donte also seems like a natural fit to mix in with the vets. they have a lot of good players that need time should be interesting to see how it shakes out in tighter games ie not the lakers

Spottie, Wednesday, 19 October 2022 23:10 (one year ago) link

turns out klay not scrimmaging for 3 months was maybe not great. but i got no prob with them working their way into the season vs blowing the doors off from the start like last year. kerr has his work cut out w these rotations and balancing the two timelines

Spottie, Wednesday, 26 October 2022 16:01 (one year ago) link

yeah thinks its prob good for them to chill give the youngsters some run let them figure things out

lag∞n, Wednesday, 26 October 2022 16:04 (one year ago) link

wiseman looks pretty good on offense but his defense is killing whatever lineup he's out there with.

moody will likely be a part of the playoff rotation. he looks great. kuminga, could be a hard season for him in and out of the rotation, he needs to be out there with shooters so he can cut. also needs reps with the starters to see if his defense can hold up against good teams when it matters like w loon or dray foul trouble and needing to go small.

jamychel and white donte are like B- versions of otto and gp2 so far.

― lag∞n, Wednesday, October 26, 2022 9:04 AM (one minute ago) bookmarkflaglink

yeah unlike last season they actually need at least one of moody/wise/kuminga to be ready-ready come playoffs

Spottie, Wednesday, 26 October 2022 16:07 (one year ago) link

they cld always do a trade tho, move a first for a guy or whatnot

lag∞n, Wednesday, 26 October 2022 16:09 (one year ago) link

yeah watching last night i was thinking this is prob not gonna be the roster at the end of this season

Spottie, Wednesday, 26 October 2022 16:15 (one year ago) link

dubs are going to need a perimeter stopper for the post-season. post-injury klay doesn't yet look like he can regain that form. not sure if moody or donte are up to the task. not to exaggerate or extrapolate too much from the griz series last year, but without a perimeter stopper, it's going to be ja scoring a million points and fouling out the whole team

that's not my post, Wednesday, 26 October 2022 19:29 (one year ago) link

well wiggins can help there, but if does that then they need kuminga (or moody?) to step up and be an interior defender and rebounder w dray.

Spottie, Wednesday, 26 October 2022 19:32 (one year ago) link

wiggins was awesome vs luka and jayson tatum. i don't recall how he did vs ja but as you point out, if it's wiggins on ja, then it creates other issues.

that's not my post, Wednesday, 26 October 2022 20:43 (one year ago) link

IIRC Ja did basically whatever he wanted till he got hurt no matter who guarded him (of course we didn't see GPII on him).

Fartleby the Scrivener (Leee), Wednesday, 26 October 2022 20:58 (one year ago) link

ja was cooking the dubs, altho was shooting like 60+% on 3s on like 10+ attempts til he got hurt, didnt seems sustainable for a series. wiggins couldnt stop him hes better on the longer more methodical dudes like taytum and luka

Spottie, Wednesday, 26 October 2022 21:05 (one year ago) link

*voice coming from behind some bushes* tatum was injured tho

lag∞n, Wednesday, 26 October 2022 21:12 (one year ago) link

take it to the celtics thread

Spottie, Wednesday, 26 October 2022 22:04 (one year ago) link

the splash bros are complete unicorns

In NBA history, most 30-point games with 3 or less free throw attempts

1. Stephen Curry (70)

2. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (51)
3. Klay Thompson (47)

Steph last night: 33 PTS, 13-22 FG, 0 FTA

No flopping, just buckets.

Too many young guys who need minutes.

Spottie, Monday, 31 October 2022 05:20 (one year ago) link

man the wiseman eye test really lines up w/ him having one of the worst plus minuses in the league

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 2 November 2022 00:11 (one year ago) link

there may still be some talent there but it really feels like he's on the wrong team

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 2 November 2022 00:14 (one year ago) link

Still very early in his career but Wiseman is one of the more destructive performers (to his teams chances) in the NBA

he has really strong physical gifts but yeah so far not good at basketball

lag∞n, Wednesday, 2 November 2022 00:33 (one year ago) link

i gotta say... klay also looks done in a real way

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 2 November 2022 00:38 (one year ago) link

idk hes obvs not the same player after the injuries but give him a lil time to fine a groove

lag∞n, Wednesday, 2 November 2022 00:40 (one year ago) link

if he isn't shooting a standstill catch and shoot three it just feels like he has no chance of scoring. averaging 12 ppg on 34/28 shooting and it looks that bad rn

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 2 November 2022 00:42 (one year ago) link

yeah its bad but he also didnt hoop all summer

lag∞n, Wednesday, 2 November 2022 00:42 (one year ago) link

lmao poole approaching a ref after the buzzer and iggy appears out of nowhere to redirect him

lag∞n, Wednesday, 2 November 2022 00:42 (one year ago) link

it seems like the right time for klay to be cooked

Clay, Wednesday, 2 November 2022 01:00 (one year ago) link

he's still a good three point shooter if he's wide open and not moving. and the warriors can get him a handful of those looks per game. but it just doesn't feel to me like he has anything left to his game beyond that

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 2 November 2022 01:05 (one year ago) link

every warriors starter tonight was +3 or better, every warriors bench player was -8 or worse including -23 for poole and -22 for jamychal green. no heat starter was above +2 tonight, every heat bench player was +7 or better including +29 for gabe vincent and +19 for duncan robinson

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 2 November 2022 02:20 (one year ago) link

for what poole is getting paid he really needs to make hay on the second unit

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 2 November 2022 02:25 (one year ago) link

he like many players is better with steph

lag∞n, Wednesday, 2 November 2022 03:00 (one year ago) link

Klay didn’t play for 3 months I’m not worried about him yet. Wiseman is unplayable. And they badly need white donte back so they don’t have to play 2way Ty all these games.

Moody looks like he’ll be a good fit and can be trusted tho. Feel bad for wiseman he really needs to be on a bad team getting 35 minutes per night, his body language is incredibly depressing. He’s got the three big no nos for a big: hates contact, bad instincts and has stone hands.

Spottie, Wednesday, 2 November 2022 05:02 (one year ago) link

The refs called three Carries on Poole I’ve never seen anything like it.

Spottie, Wednesday, 2 November 2022 05:10 (one year ago) link

that was crazy. they were all blatant though and there’s a certain way he dribbles

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 2 November 2022 05:34 (one year ago) link

wiseman showed some skill & athleticism early in his rookie year but that was not a real warriors team. it’s entirely unclear to me how he’s supposed to succeed on this version of the team. he needs to be on the hornets or something

i didn’t realize klay sat the whole summer out. but he looks like the same guy he did when he came back last year. i think he’ll play a bit better, he doesn’t have his legs under him on a lot of jump shots, especially contested ones it felt like he was consistently short tonight. but he feels like a catch and shoot only player to me now & not one who is gonna consistently make shots when he’s moved off his spot. he gets so many easy looks in the warriors system that he’ll still have some nice runs… i think he scored 11 in the third quarter tonight. but outside of that he was pretty awful

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 2 November 2022 05:40 (one year ago) link

i thought ppl were being harsh on him last year & he still had real value to them… but frankly tonight whenever he shot anything that wasn’t a wide open stand still catch and shoot three i thought it was a win for the heat

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 2 November 2022 05:43 (one year ago) link

it seems like the right time for klay to be cooked
― Clay, Wednesday, November 2, 2022

i am assuming your weed guy just arrived

poole literally carries every time he dribbles but it never gets called and other players do the same thing. i think gabe vincent had one called on him and had two other ones that shoulda been called if they were calling consistently. as usual, all anyone wants is consistency with reffing and those calls made it seem like a league wide ref memo went out on jordan poole last night or something. i thought the dubs got kinda jobbed by the refs tonight but that happens.

i actually think klays form is looking more normal than it dad last season? but his overall rhythm seems off right now and yeah you can tell he's not trusting himself fully... but not playing will do that. this is basically his preseason/summer right now. in some ways its a miracle hes at the point hes at, but its kinda hard to watch to start this season.

its crazy how destructive wisemans minutes have been. they dont even need THAT much from him but his current skillset is not the right fit. he's just not a warriors system guy. kuminga needs run too, i think he's a better bet cos he's more sound defensively. would like to see him get some run at the 5 with the starters. idk kinda feels like some trades are in the future this season. these kids arent gonna be happy sitting another season out of the main rotation. even poole could be itching for a bigger role. these arent the worst problems for a franchise to have but early returns right now are that they're gonna lose a lot of games because their bench is hemorrhaging points.

Spottie, Wednesday, 2 November 2022 06:04 (one year ago) link

it was caleb martin on the carry not gabe. and apparently a memo DID go out before the game haha

Steve Kerr & Draymond Green were both clearly irked by the short notice memo that the league emailed to NBA teams on Tuesday morning.

Jordan Poole was called for a "discontinued dribble" aka a carry, three separate times vs. the Heat. Caleb Martin was called for one once. pic.twitter.com/mcjPzj9hJQ

justice lol

lag∞n, Wednesday, 2 November 2022 11:39 (one year ago) link

they absolutely are carries and qualitatively different from the caleb martin one imo

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 2 November 2022 11:42 (one year ago) link

hes easily the worst (best?) in the league as far as carrying the basketball none of the ones from last night were even his signature violation where he picks up the ball changes direction take multiple steps then puts it down again

lag∞n, Wednesday, 2 November 2022 11:48 (one year ago) link

i think he gets away with it cause hes so smooth refs like all cops are tuned to detect aberrant rhythms but he just looks normal so they dont notice it, like that blatant double dribble the other night, also they never call carries so of course someone always going to try to do it more

lag∞n, Wednesday, 2 November 2022 11:52 (one year ago) link

not nearly the worse ive seen him do but does have the basic elements of the poole carry, gets under the ball hesitates then takes it for a looping ride around his body, has more of a arcing path than most crossovers, tho again this one is pretty normal by nba standards and wouldnt look out of place if say ja did it

This was deemed illegal as Poole receives the ball with left hand & engages across his body for the crossover @bballbreakdown @NunnBetterRefs pic.twitter.com/kIVtLGmhvZ

i do think id be good if the league tightened this stuff up a little bit

lag∞n, Wednesday, 2 November 2022 13:46 (one year ago) link

For the first half century of hoops teams were taught not to dribble more than a couple of times at most before passing. Modern players having great 'handles' is a direct product of refs allowing their hand to slide further and further down the sides of the ball without calling a carry. Poole carried, but it only makes sense to call him on it if this becomes a league-wide standard call.
