really disappointing, what a shitty thing to say, shame on the lad
it sucks too he's really lucky gonna get a total break on this esp in the local media because of week 1 nfl and the vikings beating the packers, this is as probably as off the radar as hoops is all year

NBA has suspended Suns owner Robert Sarver for one year from the Suns and Mercury organization based on league investigation. Sarver has also been fined $10 million and complete training program focused on respect and appropriate workplace conduct.— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) September 13, 2022
― Spottie, Tuesday, 13 September 2022 16:04 (three years ago)
what does it even mean to suspend an owner like cmon
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 13 September 2022 16:06 (three years ago)
he gets to take a year off and relax
― Spottie, Tuesday, 13 September 2022 16:10 (three years ago)
glen taylor got suspended over the joe smith contract thing. the NFL has suspended dan snyder and stephen ross in the last year as well. i agree that it seems generally unenforceable aside from the ban on being in the arena
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 13 September 2022 16:17 (three years ago)
i mean what else could it entail? can they stop him from making money off of the team for a year? i guess theres some revenue sources that go through the league office that they can withhold?
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 13 September 2022 16:21 (three years ago)
i think itās supposed to encompass a ban on being involved in team activities, roster building & marketing decisions etc. but no idea how they would enforce that
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 13 September 2022 16:24 (three years ago)
this seems like a slap on the wrist at most?
― Spottie, Tuesday, 13 September 2022 16:26 (three years ago)
he can just pay off the ten milli with money he saved by not paying ayton last season
i would imagine $10 million is the biggest fine in the history of the league by a large margin but for a guy of sarverās wealth that isnāt very painful
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 13 September 2022 16:28 (three years ago)
the owner doesnt need to do that stuff anyway though
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 13 September 2022 16:29 (three years ago)
10 mill to a billionaire is like a technical foul fine for the players
― Spottie, Tuesday, 13 September 2022 16:35 (three years ago)
apparently 10 mil is the max possible fine per league rules.
i assume the suspension means he doesn't get to be involved as a governor in any votes on rule changes and all of that stuff though they must get to send someone in his place.
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 13 September 2022 17:48 (three years ago)
being publicly outed as a big pos and having his toy taken away for a year at the very least cant feel great for him
― lagān, Tuesday, 13 September 2022 17:53 (three years ago)
i mean hes still rich but theres not much the league can do about that
― lagān, Tuesday, 13 September 2022 17:54 (three years ago)
yeah i guess i would really only be satisfied if he was ousted
― Spottie, Tuesday, 13 September 2022 17:55 (three years ago)
the sterling option would be good but i bet that has mostly to do with the other owners deciding youre too depraved even for them, which is a pretty high bar
― lagān, Tuesday, 13 September 2022 17:56 (three years ago)
there was a legitimate player revolt over sterling to the point of nearly protesting a playoff game which i think really forced the leagueās (as a consortium of owners) hand in that situation. the suns seemed to take more of a āwe just work here, manā approach to the sarver stuff which is totally understandable for various reasons incl them having real championship goals to worry about. but i think that helped keep the story on the back burner. also they had sterling on tape which always matters
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 13 September 2022 18:16 (three years ago)
yeah true re the player revolt, ultimately i think sterling was just worse, and a flagrantly gross dude
― lagān, Tuesday, 13 September 2022 18:18 (three years ago)
yeah the sterling event was unique. no one in ownership (which includes the commissioner) wants to set a precedent that allows their teams to be taken away
(i do find it funny that the nfl basically made jerry richardson sell the panthers but won't do anything meaningful to daniel snyder)
love in the espn article that sarver fully cooperated with the investigation but became incensed that he might actually be *punished* for anything
― mookieproof, Tuesday, 13 September 2022 19:00 (three years ago)
with sterling the recordings were such a big deal, that always gives these things multiple times the magnitude

i feel like if he was a free agent tomorrow someone would give him like $125 million. being a wing at that age who looks that good is rare
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 13 September 2022 20:50 (three years ago)
guess they do have him on tape
The report indicates there are videos of Sarverās behavior taken by employees, but it doesnāt appear they will be made public. Again, more than what its counterparts can say it has done in ownership investigations.

"The Jon Krawczynski Show ā Talk North Podcast Network" https://talknorth.com/krawczynski/?amp
Guest this week is Chris Hine, the Star Tribune Wolves beat writer who is gay, talking about Ant. Later he talks more generally about being a gay man in the sports world and how it's hard to ever know where you stand with the athletes you cover and the general widespread homophobia in sports culture across the board.
He mentioned Jokic's comment in a press conference, I had missed that when it happened.

ah ok then
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said that there was no conversation with Robert Sarver about selling the Phoenix Suns, that Sarver "has evolved as a person" during his 18-year ownership tenure and that he has done "many very positive things" in his role.— Ben Golliver (@BenGolliver) September 14, 2022
― lagān, Wednesday, 14 September 2022 19:52 (three years ago)
from everything im reading this seems to be silvers low point
― Spottie, Wednesday, 14 September 2022 19:53 (three years ago)
silver was not ready for this question was he
. @HowardBeck: "Why should there be a different standard for NBA owner than it would be for everybody who works in this league?"Adam Silver: "There are particular rights here to someone who owns an NBA team as opposed to someone who is an employee."pic.twitter.com/iS4n5gII9v— ClutchPoints (@ClutchPointsApp) September 14, 2022

That is opposite of what he should say.

apparently the only thing that will work is if theres footage or sound clips of it i guess. someone needs to leak it asap

ā Abel Ferrara hard-sci-fi elevator pitch (PBKR), Wednesday, September 14, 2022 3:59 PM (twenty-five minutes ago)
regardless of how he could massage the messaging, it is simply true that owners have different rights than employees do. not just in the NBA but in any business. silver can't fire an owner, for one. so you're already inherently bargaining yourself down on punishment to begin with
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 14 September 2022 20:27 (three years ago)
i haven't seen the press conference and maybe silver does come off particularly bad but at the end of the day owners run sports leagues and commissioners exist to do their bidding. NBA fans like to pretend that the NBA is different & more virtuous than other sports leagues but this situation is laying bare that NBA owners are going to protect themselves and send their commissioner out in front of the firing squad to give slimy responses to questions he can't truthfully answer just like the NFL and MLB do
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 14 September 2022 20:29 (three years ago)
its true. disappointing
― Spottie, Wednesday, 14 September 2022 21:05 (three years ago)
Based on some conversations with NBA people around the league there is speculation that the NBA did not want a legal battle with Robert Sarver. So they put the report out there to allow it to run its course - Sponsors reaction, Minority owners reaction, Media, Fans etc..— John Gambadoro (@Gambo987) September 14, 2022
― Spottie, Wednesday, 14 September 2022 21:13 (three years ago)
gambo also said this yesterday
Here is what could happen in regards to the Suns ownership. There is very likely language in the partnership agreement that would allow for the removal of the principal owner for cause. IF the minority owners determine that Robert Sarver violated his fiduciary duties and acted— John Gambadoro (@Gambo987) September 13, 2022
