The thing about Donovan Mitchell is he’s not that good
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 2 September 2022 15:26 (one year ago) link
If the Knicks had done the Donovan deal they would have stunk and the good vibes would be gone by January

the knicks thought there were no other contenders for mitchell & decided to play a bit of hardball with the jazz
― J0rdan S., Friday, September 2, 2022 10:18 AM (four hours ago) bookmarkflaglink
lol this is so dumb of course there were other teams who wanted him
― lag∞n, Friday, 2 September 2022 18:22 (one year ago) link
ainge wanting to punish the knicks for fucking around makes a lot of sense
― lag∞n, Friday, 2 September 2022 18:29 (one year ago) link
i think they thought they would be able to put together the best package in the end which was prob right and which makes me wonder whether ainge gave them the opportunity to beat the cavs offer and they passed or just decided to fuck them
― J0rdan S., Friday, 2 September 2022 18:47 (one year ago) link
i would guess the latter
― lag∞n, Friday, 2 September 2022 18:58 (one year ago) link
have to say im not totally sure the players the knicks were offering are better than the cavs bunch depends on how you feel about barrett i guess but i dont think its out of the question to like sexton better, however i would def rather have knicks picks than cavs
― lag∞n, Friday, 2 September 2022 18:59 (one year ago) link
obvs anything can happen to any team over a ~5 year span but the cavs are looking pretty set up, they could even be decent in a season where one of their main guys was injured a bunch or whatever
― lag∞n, Friday, 2 September 2022 19:01 (one year ago) link
anyway, thanks to ainge for saving the knicks from themselves. not that this experience makes it any more likely that they will succeed with whatever trade might happen next.
will thibodeau actually play the young players they didn't trade? no.
― comedy khadafi (voodoo chili), Friday, 2 September 2022 19:02 (one year ago) link
who knows maybe theyll be able to trade for someone better than mitchell
― lag∞n, Friday, 2 September 2022 19:02 (one year ago) link
already hearing rumblings about them targeting SGA now
― Spottie, Friday, 2 September 2022 19:09 (one year ago) link
well yeah you'd much rather have him than mitchell, but the knicks' draft picks are presumably less valuable to the thunder, who already have forty first rounders, making their package less attractive than it might've been to the jazz.
― comedy khadafi (voodoo chili), Friday, 2 September 2022 19:11 (one year ago) link
all of this is making me even more annoyed that they completely punted this year's draft

― lag∞n, Friday, September 2, 2022 3:01 PM (ten minutes ago)
the thing is that they essentially have two years to convince mitchell to stay there & if he leaves then they have two or three great young players and very minimal ability to add to them. so it's a gamble. but i support it
― J0rdan S., Friday, 2 September 2022 19:15 (one year ago) link
mobley's ceiling is the variable that could alter whatever trajectory we're thinking for them tho
at this point in the nba any player is libel to demand a trade at any time so you gotta just roll the dice
― lag∞n, Friday, 2 September 2022 19:17 (one year ago) link
we kinda knew this already but turns out the cavs missing the playoffs and not having to give up their first in the caris lavert deal was a great sequence of events for them
― J0rdan S., Friday, 2 September 2022 19:17 (one year ago) link
The Cavs always have a shot at lebron’s free agency and their moves should be viewed in that context imo
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 2 September 2022 20:15 (one year ago) link
feels like the clock is kinda ticking on that on both sides…
― J0rdan S., Friday, 2 September 2022 20:16 (one year ago) link
Have a feeling that the league is just going to let them take bronny in the first and that will be that
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 2 September 2022 21:18 (one year ago) link
the cavs first just goes to the pacers next year now. its only lottery protected

NBA May Soon Announce Seattle, Las Vegas Expansion Plans https://t.co/dKffcf36dd— RealGM (@RealGM) September 7, 2022
The NBA is playing preseason games in Seattle and Las Vegas at the end of September and beginning of October. It may not be long before regular season games are played in both cities as well.
Willie Ramirez of the AP reports that sources have told him that the NBA wants to announce expansion plans to both Seattle and Las Vegas during this preseason.

havent looked into the sourcing but it doesnt feel quite right, seems like we wouldve heard more about this by now if they were really on the verge of announcing it

seems kinda inevitable but i hate the idea of expansion. just move two teams out of two lame markets
― Spottie, Wednesday, 7 September 2022 16:35 (one year ago) link
Wish it were that easy, but potential conference realignments and lots of other franchise-specific business considerations make that pretty difficult.

i am going to my usual coked up iconoclast self and say expansion is good, the league has a lot of talent
― terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Wednesday, 7 September 2022 19:22 (one year ago) link
expansion is good from the pov of having more teams
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 7 September 2022 19:27 (one year ago) link
i used to be mildly opposed to expansion, but the league is absolutely stacked with talent and i think it can absorb 2 new teams for sure.
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 7 September 2022 19:46 (one year ago) link
I’d be interested in reading a long thing by someone smart weighing the pros and cons of this. presumably it’d benefit the league financially, and sure there is enough NBA talent to field another couple of teams. but the NBA is a star’s league and there aren’t really 32 stars with that kind of draw…and the way things have been trending with stars teaming up, it seems possible we’d just end up with 2 more really bad teams
― k3vin k., Wednesday, 7 September 2022 21:05 (one year ago) link
i agree its preferable to move and change ownership of two shitty teams but that has more to do with the fact that there are shitty orgs/locations than anything else IMHO
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 7 September 2022 21:20 (one year ago) link
the whole point of expansion is so that the owners can collect $5 billion or whatever the number will end up being for two new teams. saying you’d rather them relocate two bad franchises is like saying you’d rather the sky be green every day. i guess it will be interesting to see how you try and build a team up from zero nowadays but otherwise i’m ambivalent on it. seattle and vegas are at least two cool markets, better them than kansas city and louisville
