allen is good but his type of player doesnt have a ton of value i doubt the raps would be interested, wouldnt be surprised if he gets moved at some point tho, but as far as them pushing to be contenders now idk theres just many battle tested teams ahead of them and theyre so young its gonna tough

cavs have plenty of time to fill in their roster gaps, bunch of teams in their primes ahead of them now anyway

i mean this all sounds nice but they were only two games out of 6th last year and that was only because jarrett allen broke his hand & they lost a million games in the final month of the season. their expectations have to be greater than that his year after this trade

& as for all the time they have, they have mitchell for three seasons which means they basically have next offseason to get the team to east contender status or all the whispers about him leaving in FA are gonna start up

who are they jumping in the top 5? i dont see it. maybe toronto? but they also have to grapple with the nets who theoretically should be better. I still see them in that 6-10 range

they should be closer to 4th than 8th, imo

i will say the thing that points to them having a chance to compete with the top of the east this year is that they were actually by the numbers legit good when they were healthy last year, then add mitchell and a year of experience and they could end up ahead of schedule its not out of the question, but i wouldnt bet on it

the big unknown is whether the three teams who really didn't do much -- miami, chicago, toronto -- are still as good or if they get passed up by the nets, cavs, hawks. i would be really concerned if i was a bulls fan...

New York had the assets package that Utah preferred and the sides seemed to be inching closer to a trade on Sunday night and into Monday, but New York balked on including Quentin Grimes into a trade with RJ Barrett to acquire Mitchell, sources said.

When guard Immanuel Quickley was proposed as a replacement for Grimes in the trade, Utah wanted three unprotected first-round draft picks as part of the package -- but New York would only do a third first-round pick that included Top 5 protections, sources said. Those packages would've included two second-round picks, two pick swaps and two expiring contracts from a third team, sources said. New York would've moved out Evan Fournier and first-round pick to a third team to spare Utah taking on Fournier's remaining $37 million, sources said.

New York president Leon Rose had been running a parallel negotiation with Barrett's agent, Bill Duffy, on a rookie contract extension and set Monday night as a deadline with the Jazz to get a deal -- or pause talks to finalize a new deal with Barrett, sources said. Barrett's deal -- four years and worth up to $120 million, Duffy told ESPN -- added a "Poison Pill" provision to his contract until next July and would've forced the Knicks and Jazz to restart talks with new deal parameters based on the extension.

New York planned to continue pursuing Mitchell, sources said, but the Jazz pivoted to the Cleveland discussions and never again engaged New York in talks this week, sources said. The Knicks had made a calculated gamble that they could still get a deal done for Mitchell. A New York-area native, Mitchell had been enthusiastic over playing for the Knicks, sources said.

i love this trade for the cavs btw, this is more fun than using mid first round picks and i don't think they should lose sleep over any of the players they gave up

i like this for the cavs too but I also believe that Danny Ainge needs to be immediately arrested and extradited to baseball

having another team in the league like OKC will be annoying... there has never been an NBA where two teams owned as many draft picks as those two, and the jazz still have other trades to make. but whatever

spurs have a small pick haul themselves as well

could get more if they do any deals for poeltl, josh richardson, and/or mcbuckets

idk if mitchell wants to be on the cavs but from a basketball and also fame perspective he should, getting in on the ground floor of an up and coming teams is better than playing for the freakin new york knicks
