if i was the cavs i'd be offering allen to the raptors for siakam or OG

J0rdan S., Thursday, 1 September 2022 20:25 (three years ago)

allen is good but his type of player doesnt have a ton of value i doubt the raps would be interested, wouldnt be surprised if he gets moved at some point tho, but as far as them pushing to be contenders now idk theres just many battle tested teams ahead of them and theyre so young its gonna tough

lag∞n, Thursday, 1 September 2022 20:26 (three years ago)

cavs have plenty of time to fill in their roster gaps, bunch of teams in their primes ahead of them now anyway

― lag∞n, Thursday, September 1, 2022 1:09 PM (one minute ago) bookmarkflaglink

yeah this years goal is not be in the play in i would think

― Spottie, Thursday, September 1, 2022 4:12 PM (seven minutes ago)

i mean this all sounds nice but they were only two games out of 6th last year and that was only because jarrett allen broke his hand & they lost a million games in the final month of the season. their expectations have to be greater than that his year after this trade

& as for all the time they have, they have mitchell for three seasons which means they basically have next offseason to get the team to east contender status or all the whispers about him leaving in FA are gonna start up

― J0rdan S., Thursday, September 1, 2022 1:23 PM (forty-five seconds ago) bookmarkflaglink

who are they jumping in the top 5? i dont see it. maybe toronto? but they also have to grapple with the nets who theoretically should be better. I still see them in that 6-10 range
https://www.espn.com/nba/standings

Spottie, Thursday, 1 September 2022 20:27 (three years ago)

well, if they make this trade and don't get any better that would be concerning to me lol

J0rdan S., Thursday, 1 September 2022 20:29 (three years ago)

skipping the play in IS better

Spottie, Thursday, 1 September 2022 20:29 (three years ago)

with good injury luck, and bad luck for other teams, they could make a little run but without that they could also easily be out in the first round idk mobelys 21 garland is 22 theyve not made if further than the playin its asking a lot for them to battle the big boys of the east

lag∞n, Thursday, 1 September 2022 20:30 (three years ago)

skipping the play in IS better

― Spottie, Thursday, September 1, 2022 4:29 PM (one minute ago)

they should be closer to 4th than 8th, imo

J0rdan S., Thursday, 1 September 2022 20:32 (three years ago)

i will say the thing that points to them having a chance to compete with the top of the east this year is that they were actually by the numbers legit good when they were healthy last year, then add mitchell and a year of experience and they could end up ahead of schedule its not out of the question, but i wouldnt bet on it

lag∞n, Thursday, 1 September 2022 20:34 (three years ago)

Agree xp

Spottie, Thursday, 1 September 2022 20:35 (three years ago)

even w/ the east getting better if they're just in the 7/8/9 morass next year this trade will look kinda like a failure. same for the hawks tho! the east will be fun

J0rdan S., Thursday, 1 September 2022 20:36 (three years ago)

the big unknown is whether the three teams who really didn't do much -- miami, chicago, toronto -- are still as good or if they get passed up by the nets, cavs, hawks. i would be really concerned if i was a bulls fan...

J0rdan S., Thursday, 1 September 2022 20:36 (three years ago)

bulls are sad man they made big moves and came up way short

lag∞n, Thursday, 1 September 2022 20:39 (three years ago)

it seems like lonzo is not gonna be ready to start the season?

J0rdan S., Thursday, 1 September 2022 20:40 (three years ago)

maybe start but wont finish

Spottie, Thursday, 1 September 2022 20:42 (three years ago)

from utah to ... cleveland. he cant be happy about that from a personal brand perspective.

Spottie, Thursday, 1 September 2022 21:33 (three years ago)

sounds like the knicks and jazz were close on a deal then the knicks just up and signed barrett to a new deal which blew the whole thing up

New York had the assets package that Utah preferred and the sides seemed to be inching closer to a trade on Sunday night and into Monday, but New York balked on including Quentin Grimes into a trade with RJ Barrett to acquire Mitchell, sources said.

When guard Immanuel Quickley was proposed as a replacement for Grimes in the trade, Utah wanted three unprotected first-round draft picks as part of the package -- but New York would only do a third first-round pick that included Top 5 protections, sources said. Those packages would've included two second-round picks, two pick swaps and two expiring contracts from a third team, sources said. New York would've moved out Evan Fournier and first-round pick to a third team to spare Utah taking on Fournier's remaining $37 million, sources said.

New York president Leon Rose had been running a parallel negotiation with Barrett's agent, Bill Duffy, on a rookie contract extension and set Monday night as a deadline with the Jazz to get a deal -- or pause talks to finalize a new deal with Barrett, sources said. Barrett's deal -- four years and worth up to $120 million, Duffy told ESPN -- added a "Poison Pill" provision to his contract until next July and would've forced the Knicks and Jazz to restart talks with new deal parameters based on the extension.

New York planned to continue pursuing Mitchell, sources said, but the Jazz pivoted to the Cleveland discussions and never again engaged New York in talks this week, sources said. The Knicks had made a calculated gamble that they could still get a deal done for Mitchell. A New York-area native, Mitchell had been enthusiastic over playing for the Knicks, sources said.

knicks continue to baffle

Spottie, Thursday, 1 September 2022 22:11 (three years ago)

D-MITCH!!! Cavs gonna go all the way this year. You heard it here first. Koby Altman = best GM of any Cleveland sports team in history!!!!

Mr. Snrub, Thursday, 1 September 2022 22:14 (three years ago)

lets gooooo

lag∞n, Thursday, 1 September 2022 22:17 (three years ago)

did the knicks not know that poison pill refers exactly to being hard to trade or what lol

My biggest question about this deal: Does Donovan Mitchell want to be in Cleveland?

— Nate Duncan (@NateDuncanNBA) September 1, 2022

Spottie, Thursday, 1 September 2022 22:44 (three years ago)

it is a good question

J0rdan S., Thursday, 1 September 2022 23:01 (three years ago)

Anything’s an upgrade over Utah

frogbs, Thursday, 1 September 2022 23:03 (three years ago)

i love this trade for the cavs btw, this is more fun than using mid first round picks and i don't think they should lose sleep over any of the players they gave up

J0rdan S., Thursday, 1 September 2022 23:05 (three years ago)

i like this for the cavs too but I also believe that Danny Ainge needs to be immediately arrested and extradited to baseball

Clay, Thursday, 1 September 2022 23:10 (three years ago)

having another team in the league like OKC will be annoying... there has never been an NBA where two teams owned as many draft picks as those two, and the jazz still have other trades to make. but whatever

J0rdan S., Thursday, 1 September 2022 23:12 (three years ago)

spurs have a small pick haul themselves as well

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Thursday, 1 September 2022 23:22 (three years ago)

could get more if they do any deals for poeltl, josh richardson, and/or mcbuckets

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Thursday, 1 September 2022 23:23 (three years ago)

im sure bojan will fetch another pick at the deadline for a contender looking for a scoring punch

Spottie, Thursday, 1 September 2022 23:34 (three years ago)

The reaction to this is... interesting I'll say that

Overall this is how I break it down to an extent

Danny ainge got lot young players from Minnesota timberwolves Cleveland Cavaliers got young guy from Los Angeles Lakers 6 future 1 rd draft pick sweep 1 draft pick Danny ainge. New Sam presti Oklahoma City Thunder. Get lots picks young guys

need to wait for magics take before i decide

lag∞n, Friday, 2 September 2022 00:01 (three years ago)

idk if mitchell wants to be on the cavs but from a basketball and also fame perspective he should, getting in on the ground floor of an up and coming teams is better than playing for the freakin new york knicks

lag∞n, Friday, 2 September 2022 00:01 (three years ago)

'The Cleveland Cavaliers have traded for Donovan Mitchell. I predict we will see him play a lot of basketball as a guard where he'll score a lot of points for his team, but I guess we'll have to wait and see when the season begins this fall.'

xp

Utah’s CEO of Basketball Danny Ainge is doing a fantastic job rearranging Utah roster and acquiring 13 unprotected or lightly protected picks. I don’t think he’s done yet!

Spottie, Friday, 2 September 2022 00:23 (three years ago)

i like this for the cavs, right time to take a swing. don't have any idea what the knicks are doing--either you want mitchell or you don't. you don't tie that to barrett talks or quentin grimes or whatever.

nice

lag∞n, Friday, 2 September 2022 01:24 (three years ago)

can this be true

At the start of trade talks in July, New York offered Utah a Donovan Mitchell package including RJ Barrett, Obi Toppin, Mitchell Robinson and three unprotected first-round picks, sources tell ESPN. Jazz turned down that offer and Robinson signed a $60M extension to stay w/ NY. https://t.co/3eDg2Mf7f1

lag∞n, Friday, 2 September 2022 01:24 (three years ago)

da knicks baby

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Friday, 2 September 2022 01:35 (three years ago)

this is all supporting my theory that the objective of knicks management is to not to get fired for as long as possible

call all destroyer, Friday, 2 September 2022 01:37 (three years ago)

well, yeah

mookieproof, Friday, 2 September 2022 01:51 (three years ago)

i’m really curious what their plan is. hard to imagine them being in the top 8 of the east

J0rdan S., Friday, 2 September 2022 02:05 (three years ago)

sir we have a plan for the coming season

[knicks gm turns over a piece of paper on which the words BING BONG have been hastily scribbled]
