everyones trying to get a nice deal on kd

i think stuff like "bane is off limits" is just an indication of how far away any of these deals are from actually being completed. it seems like teams often start from places of impossibility -- i.e. the nets allegedly asking for both tatum *and* brown -- before meeting in the middle. my guess would be that this "news" is indicative only of things leaking early in the process. i think if the grizz and nets hammered out 90% of a deal and bane was the sticking point, bane would end up on the nets.

I almost wonder if the owners/GMs are colluding here. I know that KD has said stuff that makes him feel radioactive, but in other seasons you'd have at least one team stupid/desperate enough to jump at the chance to trade for him, 34-year-old on a 4-year day be damned.

generally for a player of KD’s caliber, the length of his contract would be a plus, but in his case it has got to be a turnoff for a lot of teams. he’s 34 with an injury history and has now proven himself to be the kind of guy who requests trades a lot

there's just not that many stupid front offices anymore... also the scrutiny/coverage of transactions and the post-moneyball understanding of things like value vs salary, contract length, aging curves among fans is in a totally different place than it was 10-20 years ago. front offices are def sensitive to this stuff & it def effects the trade market & this one in particular

in 1995 you'd def have teams lining up to trade their best 23 year old all star making no money for a 34 year old KD but that's never gonna happen nowadays

in 2022, you'd have a legion of reply guys lining up to do the same

it's completely understandable why a young and fun team like the grizzlies wouldn't want to fuck up the juju they had last year by trading young pieces and importing the "beat it kid" guy

the intractable issue is that the only teams who should be trying to trade for KD are teams who can win the title and if you're trying to win a title by trading for KD you're going to want to keep as many good players on your team as possible

yeah theres a bunch of things that make this deal tough but prob the biggest is the nets arent willing to do a picks centered deal, so if you have to hollow your team out to get him then theres no point in getting him

then combine that with the fact that hes old injury prone disloyal and makes a shitload of money and it just becomes hard to put something together

he was so smart doing that with the dubs then decided to hitch his wagon to his mopey pal and an unproven coach/franchise... cos vibes. i guess he could also realize he is on the downslope and could have another huge injury so just took the most he could get as soon as he could get it, but that doesnt seem likely. his miscalculations are piling up.
