iirc hes mad at marks for the way he treated kyrie (did not give him a max contract)
― lag∞n, Monday, 8 August 2022 18:59 (three years ago)
if all it takes to smooth everything over w/ KD is to fire steve nash (should not be an NBA head coach) and sean marks (orchestrator of a giant mess of a team) that might actually be a small price to pay

it's one thing for shams to tweet various abuses of the english language from his own account, but it's infecting his employer's accounts:

Marks is not the gm tho that’s Kyrie and KD until now so all they can do is turn the mirror on themselves. Marks pulled off the rare 3 man super team that Kd wanted and they fumbled it. Marks should leave on his own accord and air all the laundry.
― Spottie, Monday, 8 August 2022 21:43 (three years ago)
he can't get credit for "pulling it off" but then take none of the blame for running a front office that wasn't able to keep it together for even one full season. at best he doesn't have enough clout to stand up to the superstars on his team and keep any semblance of chemistry going or ward off bad ideas, at worst he's made a number of decisions that have made the situation worse. either way he's unfit for the job he has... maybe he'd be fine running a small market team that would love to win 45 games and scrap its way into the play in tourney but that's not what the nets want to be
― J0rdan S., Monday, 8 August 2022 22:44 (three years ago)
a trio like KD, kyrie, and harden is always gonna have a certain level of sway and power w/in an organization but we've seen franchises *actually* pull this off before. pat riley had the juice. bob myers had the juice. sean marks does not. it all seems pretty cut and dried to me
― J0rdan S., Monday, 8 August 2022 22:46 (three years ago)
those three guys on the same team was just fundamentally a bad idea
― lag∞n, Monday, 8 August 2022 23:11 (three years ago)
kyrie on any team might just be a bad idea
both of those things may be true
― J0rdan S., Monday, 8 August 2022 23:26 (three years ago)
it seems pretty clear that the thing that broke them apart was kyrie not getting vaxed and maybe that fact alone soured harden on the whole thing and there was nothing anyone could do but i also think it's obvious that the front office allowing him to come back and play road games was a catastrophic decision that created a complete circus around the team and made harden want to get out asap. they took a strong public stance against kyrie playing and then buckled under the first bit of roster strain, they were weak and short sighted and couldn't stand strong as a franchise. if you break that easy you're never gonna be able to make it work w/ multiple superstars.

Furthermore, the first-year head coach said one wrinkle he will implement and stick with is having the offense run through Anthony Davis, and James concurred, sources said. The team has been encouraged with Davis’ offseason progression and believe he’ll be in optimum shape to avoid serious injuries and carry a heavier load. The team is also hopeful for a corner-3 shooting percentage bump from Russell Westbrook next season, sources said.

― ciderpress, Sunday, 14 August 2022 17:03 (three years ago)
all these instances of stars bailing on their teams mid-contract in the past 5 years feels like ruinously bad optics for the league. it used to happen occasionally but not like this
― ciderpress, Sunday, 14 August 2022 17:16 (three years ago)
yeah its a bummer
― lag∞n, Sunday, 14 August 2022 17:22 (three years ago)
i don’t think it actually matters at all. ppl have been handwringing about stars leaving teams for 10+ years now and the league has likely never been more popular. certainly from a financial POV it’s never been in a better place
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 14 August 2022 18:22 (three years ago)
it feeds the huge and ever expanding social media gossip mill, keeps the league in the news year round, makes for dramatic boxing match level narratives once the games roll around… i don’t think the league suffers from it really at all. whether it makes the sport less enjoyable to you on a personal level is a diff question and entirely fair but i think the league long ago won the “optics” battle on this stuff
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 14 August 2022 18:25 (three years ago)
and tbh i’d rather see KD on an actually good team than this non competitive mess in brooklyn. the nets don’t even have fans. if you look at donovan mitchell likely quasi forcing his way out of a soon to be irrelevant jazz team vs bradley beal clinging to the wizards so he can make a bunch of money playing for a team that will never win more than 2 playoff games… which is worse for the league, in real terms and optics? it’s not the case of the great player trying to get to a more competitive team
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 14 August 2022 18:29 (three years ago)
fair enough, i don't really mind when its guys like mitchell trying to get off their original team after giving them a chance
― ciderpress, Sunday, 14 August 2022 19:00 (three years ago)

the clippers are just the western conference nets i dont believe in that team/org. on paper that squad is pretty deep though, lots of lineup flexibility/switch-ability. but so much riding on older vets and/or guys coming off big injuries and/or john wall.
