it was a feat. like breaking the 4 minute mile. it doesn't matter that it's been done tens of thousands of times since.

dont get me wrong they were trailblazers worthy of admiration but on the other hand they would get absolutely cooked by a decent 2022 high school team
they would get absolutely cooked by a decent 2022 high school team
If the 2022 high schoolers were from one of those high school 'academies' that draw top talent from all over as incubators for NBA hopefuls, then there's no question they'd be bigger, stronger, faster, and more athletic than the 1960 Celtics (just to pick a year) and they'd have the benefit of the full skill set that's been invented since then, which is an enormous advantage.
However, if the 2022 high school team were playing under the 1960 rules and the refs were calling the game exactly the way refs would call it in 1960, I think the Russell Celtics would still have a damn good chance of coming out on top, because the rules and refs would keep strangling the high schoolers's game down to the 1960 way of playing.

smh these guys need special rules to beat some kids now
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 19:56 (three years ago)
but what if 1960 rules were seen as the norm and today's rules were the "special rules" that let some HS kids beat a bunch of professional athletes?
― more difficult than I look (Aimless), Tuesday, 2 August 2022 20:31 (three years ago)
i think whoever time travels has to play by the rules where they land is the fair way to do it
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 20:32 (three years ago)
agreed. let the time travel tourney commence!
― more difficult than I look (Aimless), Tuesday, 2 August 2022 20:34 (three years ago)
wow those michael adams stats are bonkers. 26.5p 4r 10.5a 2.2s on 39/29 splits is insane. an 11 point jump from the season before and got to the line twice as much as well. then all his numbers came crashing back down.
― Spottie, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 21:04 (three years ago)
i assume the team lost a primary scorer and he had to be the guy for a year
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 21:08 (three years ago)
its the only explanation i can think of
― Spottie, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 21:24 (three years ago)
looked at the three consecutive years and denver had weirdly high roster turnover but theres no missing big scorer in there, in fact over that three year span the second highest scorer was in the same season adams was balling out

The proposed three-team trade scenario included Westbrook going to Utah and getting bought out. Utah would send Donovan Mitchell to the Knicks, a combination of two players, including Patrick Beverley and Jordan Clarkson, Bojan Bogdanovic or Malik Beasley to the Lakers, and the Jazz would receive significant draft pick compensation from the Knicks and Lakers. The Knicks also would’ve had to part with veteran salary filler(s), such as Derrick Rose to help make the salaries work.
― Clay, Friday, 5 August 2022 20:51 (three years ago)
those are not players that will help the lakers
― call all destroyer, Friday, 5 August 2022 21:38 (three years ago)
idk they wouldn’t vault the lakers into contender status by any means but if you look at their roster any of those guys definitely would help them. bogdanovic in particular feels like someone a lot of teams should be after. whether sending out all their picks for a combo of those guys is a good idea is perhaps a different question but the lakers need all the NBA level talent they can get.
― J0rdan S., Friday, 5 August 2022 21:42 (three years ago)
dumping russ is classic addition by subtraction
― Clay, Friday, 5 August 2022 21:44 (three years ago)
minimal defense six man types are always hit or miss in the playoffs depending on the game but clarkson feels like one of the only guys from the jazz who hasn't completely shit his pants in the playoffs the last two seasons. his stats in that dallas series were actually pretty good, he gave them what you would expect from him
― J0rdan S., Friday, 5 August 2022 21:48 (three years ago)
ainge blatantly trying to construct a trade that will return the most picks ever, out there trying to set records, going for the gusto

yeah i get this, any of those guys would play in the rotation and maybe we're past the point where the lakers have any path to contention, but i think they all would get exposed in the later rounds of the playoffs--even bojan, who is fearless and an absolute baller, might be a little too far out of his prime. i'm also comparing these guys to the turner/hield package, which has its issues but also might be pretty interesting if you squint hard enough.
― call all destroyer, Saturday, 6 August 2022 00:51 (three years ago)
any one of those guys - turner, hield, bojan, or clarkson - would replace westbrook as their third best player
― micah, Saturday, 6 August 2022 06:16 (three years ago)
Lakers really need ad to play 65+ games as a top ten players and a lot of stuff will work itself out
― Spottie, Saturday, 6 August 2022 06:45 (three years ago)
imo ad has the early big man decline bug and will never be top 10 again (if he ever was)
― micah, Saturday, 6 August 2022 13:32 (three years ago)
he could have a random bounce back season but its prob the most likely outcome, idk maybe if he goes on the juice
― lag∞n, Saturday, 6 August 2022 14:43 (three years ago)
AD is injured all the time and has the pain threshold of a Habsburgian dandy

also he’s someone whose jump shot was lights out in the bubble and has cratered since

In a meeting with Nets owner Joe Tsai, Kevin Durant reiterated his trade request and informed Tsai that Tsai needs to choose between Durant or the pairing of general manager Sean Marks and coach Steve Nash, sources say.Story: https://t.co/W1voNf9MDC— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) August 8, 2022

iirc hes mad at marks for the way he treated kyrie (did not give him a max contract)
― lag∞n, Monday, 8 August 2022 18:59 (three years ago)
if all it takes to smooth everything over w/ KD is to fire steve nash (should not be an NBA head coach) and sean marks (orchestrator of a giant mess of a team) that might actually be a small price to pay
