chet holmgren (and the rest of the thunder) tipping off on espn right now

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 01:02 (three years ago)

might have to view that

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 01:03 (three years ago)

i listened to the zach lowe podcast w/ jon the athletic wolves writer & i found a lot of what he said about the wolves thinking to be wishful, to say the least. the part that is hard for to me get over is why they hired tim connelly just to execute a "trade every pick for one guy" trade. it's like they hired some great combat fighter and then threw all his weapons into a lake. idk. jon was saying that the t wolves are zigging where the rest of the league is zagging, and as a general rule if the t wolves are thinking they're one step ahead of every other team i'm going to assume they're actually about to zig right off a cliff.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 6 July 2022 01:05 (three years ago)

chet got a block

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 01:06 (three years ago)

chet got a dunk

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 01:08 (three years ago)

i don't get that grizzlies thing, can a second rounder, like, hold out for a huge contract? seems unprecedented, congrats to his agent

yeah good point picks are kinda the tools of his trade

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 01:11 (three years ago)

mb the griz contract was a promise

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 01:11 (three years ago)

the central issue w/ the wolves all comes back to the fact that KAT is a great offensive player who is a defensive turnstile at the position where it's really hard to win important games if you have a turnstile on defense. so then that leads them to this "zigging the zag" thinking of pairing him w/ a center, even tho *at best* that is a strategy, come the playoffs, that works as part of a flexible roster that can play big and small. you'd think maybe ppl on the wolves had watched the wolves-grizzlies series where the grizz had to bench their center after one game bcuz the smaller team was shredding their defense. the wolves, one would assume, are not going to just bench rudy gobert in the first round of the playoffs even if the match up calls for it, so then they're just trying to jam this KAT-driven ideology down everyone's throats bcuz of what they gave up to protect him w/ a max contract center.

it's also funny to me that the "twin towers is back" narrative is being driven by the success of the cavs, who didn't even make it out of the play in round. i'm not an NBA GM but it might be better to try and emulate a different franchise idk

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 6 July 2022 01:12 (three years ago)

yeah i thought the same re all this flowing from kats bad d

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 01:14 (three years ago)

chet hit a 3

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 01:16 (three years ago)

chets got 10 points

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 01:21 (three years ago)

he's one of these guys who is gonna look so much better playing in the pros than in college and he already was an amazing college player

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 6 July 2022 01:21 (three years ago)

chet just dribbled the ball up the court whet behind his back and swished a 3

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 01:24 (three years ago)

the twin towers thing is definitely getting silly, what cleveland and boston (where neither guy is above 6'10" btw) and milwaukee are doing are actually all completely different things, driven by unique players with unusual skillsets.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 01:26 (three years ago)

chet got a block led the break and dished off for an and 1

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 01:27 (three years ago)

so hyped for the era of holmgren primacy

Clay, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 01:28 (three years ago)

chet clearly too good for summer league after one quarter of play

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 01:29 (three years ago)

this jazz team totally sucks, good to see him taking it to them

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 01:36 (three years ago)

one thing i still don't understand about the draft is why ppl weren't talking about chet as an elite shooter. his shot is as good as you could as for from that size

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 6 July 2022 02:08 (three years ago)

maybe it's the body type maybe i'm crazy and i hesitate to even say it but when i watch chet there's always a few plays that remind me of KD

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 6 July 2022 02:09 (three years ago)

hah yeah i don't know about that but what i am taking away from this game is that his feel and IQ is as advertised or better

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 02:14 (three years ago)

praying 4 victor to end up a spur, i cannot live in a world with chet murking my spurs for the next 20 years

was weird people were too busy talking about how skinny he is i guess

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 13:04 (three years ago)

it's like they say you can't teach weight

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 6 July 2022 13:07 (three years ago)

OKC looks fun but that definitely looked like a summer league run

Heez, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 13:12 (three years ago)

spurs just picked up isaiah roby off waivers bc okc has too many guys, can imagine this will remain an issue for okc for the next several years as they will not have enough roster space to play the 2 or 3 guys they draft every year

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Wednesday, 6 July 2022 13:17 (three years ago)

like its definitely a good problem to have, theyve got 2 1sts next year (and 3 2nds), but they have 8 1RP picks between 2024 and 2025 (and 4 2RPs), feels like theyll need to trade a bunch of those picks and have to take back suboptimal value for them. like u cannot choose a whole roster worth of players in a two-year time span, its crazy.

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Wednesday, 6 July 2022 13:26 (three years ago)

like imagine getting drafted by okc in the mid-2020s, like a kid being born into a polygamist family u r getting no attention unless its from an older sibling

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Wednesday, 6 July 2022 13:27 (three years ago)

The weight thing obsession was really weird, like of all the things to worry about, KG was so skinny, Durant's infamous bench press, plus a player putting on weight over time is almost inevitable

Had vibes of a lot of the stuff I remember reading where all these ppl were talking themselves into Okafor over KAT

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 6 July 2022 13:32 (three years ago)

chet just looks frail is prob part of the issue, hes scrappy tho, see how well he hold sup i guess, one thing is he has narrow shoulders, much like kd, so thatll limit how much upper body weight he can put on

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 13:39 (three years ago)

he was definitely getting knocked around a bit in the paint last night, it’s going to keep happening but TBD if it rises to the level of being an actual issue.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 14:37 (three years ago)

hell get bigger and stronger and prob just have to deal with getting pushed around by stronger guys anyway everyones got their strengths and weaknesses so to speak

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 14:53 (three years ago)

prob get a lot of minutes at the 4 to start but if he can consistently hold up playing center my god having a guy with his offensive game there would be freaking apocalyptic

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 14:59 (three years ago)

they just need an undersized C to match his oversized PF and theyll be set

terence trent d'ilfer (m bison), Wednesday, 6 July 2022 15:04 (three years ago)

i bet NBA teams worried less about chet's weight than random ppl on twitter or whatever but to me the key is that he moves fluidly and doesn't have any injury history or seem like a notable injury risk as far as big guys go. "porzingis" was trending on twitter last night during the game bcuz apparently lots of ppl were tweeting "this is what porzingis was supposed to be before the injuries" but porzingis had a certain stiffness you typically associate w/ a 7+ footer. chet isn't a huge leaper or anything but he's a much more natural athlete than is normal for that size & that's more important than the fact that he's skinny

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 6 July 2022 18:52 (three years ago)

there will be tons of ppl on TV etc saying you just have to be physical w/ chet and toss him around & obv there will be some adjustment for him going up against 28 year old beast big men. you're not gonna want him guarding jokic or whatever. but it reminds me a bit of steph where you had ppl saying for years that you had to rough him up and get him off his game but he was small and skinny his whole life and figured out how to be great anyway, he wasn't going to be affected by guys trying to be physical with him. steph did get noticeably bigger to hold up more on defense, it's not like the strength aspect is meaningless, but it wasn't some cheat code to neutralize him as a basketball player & i think chet will be the same way

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 6 July 2022 18:57 (three years ago)

saw a nice dirk step back fadeaway from him. hard to stop that

Heez, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 18:59 (three years ago)

the polish on his game for his age and extremely tall body is crazy, he was treating those utah scrubs like assistant coaches lol

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 July 2022 19:17 (three years ago)

His free throw percentages were really good that helps

i mean, if chet is KAT who can actually play defense he's one of the best players in the NBA lol

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 6 July 2022 20:11 (three years ago)

One contract signed today that stands out is the five-year $251M one for Bradley Beal. Negotiated by Mark Bartelstein of @PrioritySports, the Beal contract consists of a no trade clause. He is the only player in the league to have a true no trade clause.
