the initial celtics pitch when i was first old enough to watch & enjoy basketball was "their star player has died and they are going to be bad for a while" which was not compelling to child me

ciderpress, Tuesday, 31 May 2022 15:23 (four years ago)

lmao yeah that was a rough time

lag∞n, Tuesday, 31 May 2022 15:24 (four years ago)

awful

fact fans in this thread may want to note that the len bias pick belonged to.... the seattle supersonics before they traded it for gerald henderson and cash

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 31 May 2022 15:29 (four years ago)

well add to all that the mid90s Sonics were fun as hell, I definitely rocked a Kemp jersey even in a Celtics fan house

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Tuesday, 31 May 2022 15:38 (four years ago)

kemp was a phenomenon, he transcended team loyalties

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 31 May 2022 15:53 (four years ago)

oh yeah and also they wouldve learned to share the ball and keep harden happy as well, because of seattle chill vibes, another yes.

otoh jittery from constant coffee drinking field goal % plummets and frasier & niles (co-head coaches) can’t ever agree on a scheme and each game becomes a predictable farce, doesn’t sound great

Got golden state in 6!

At least for the conference finals, 538 had the Mavs as the favorites (maybe even overwhelmingly so) to reach and even win the finals.

Gianni Fursace (Leee), Tuesday, 31 May 2022 18:50 (four years ago)

that vaguely makes sense to me that hthe same model would like the celtics and mavs

ciderpress, Tuesday, 31 May 2022 19:46 (four years ago)

“Analytics darlings”

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Tuesday, 31 May 2022 22:26 (four years ago)

I'm rooting for the Warriors for an odd reason: when the Raptors won, I really admired that I never heard Curry or any of the Warriors blame or even mention losing Durant and Thompson for the series. Maybe the Raptors would have won anyway, but realistically, probably not. But no one on the Warriors tried to put any kind of a damper on that at all--they let us enjoy that moment 100%.

clemenza, Tuesday, 31 May 2022 22:39 (four years ago)

they are true mensches

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Tuesday, 31 May 2022 22:46 (four years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 00:01 (four years ago)

the people have spoken. the series will be won on the road

ciderpress, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 00:19 (four years ago)

15-11 is a pretty tight split!

Clay, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 00:31 (four years ago)

Smh at all these GSW homers

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 00:33 (four years ago)

heard that most of the warriors voters are casuals

lag∞n, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 01:22 (four years ago)

15-11 seems about right.

Spottie, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 01:35 (four years ago)

Casual homer here for sure

DJI, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 14:47 (four years ago)

same

Chyiv Kyiv (Fetchboy), Wednesday, 1 June 2022 15:14 (four years ago)

im rooting for all the players to have a fun time and the boston celtics to win

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 15:30 (four years ago)

agreed

is it just because i started getting into basketball again over the last couple of years, or is it objectively true that ancillary NBA-related content on youtube, podcasts, twitter etc has absolutely gone supernova

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 15:35 (four years ago)

not just NBA, basically any type of content that can be made at home went supernova due to pandemic

ciderpress, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 15:47 (four years ago)

yeah makes sense

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 15:51 (four years ago)

I’ve been told on good authority that it’s not yet Thursday. The waiting is the hardest part…

that's not my post, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 16:03 (four years ago)

few year ago basically only zach lowe and coach nick were doing Xs and Os type breakdowns and now theres tons of it, golden age of people explaining basketball to you

lag∞n, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 16:11 (four years ago)

i love to have basketball explained to me

ciderpress, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 16:11 (four years ago)

it is nice

lag∞n, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 16:13 (four years ago)

the various youtubers i could really live without, stuff like this is very fun to me though

would enjoy a youtuber if they did this stuff

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 16:30 (four years ago)

thinking basketball has good youtubes

kinda a disturbing read, basketball is just supposed to be hoisting and then running back (picked W's in 7)

brisk money (lukas), Wednesday, 1 June 2022 16:47 (four years ago)

thank you for the link lagoon i am going to just gorilla my way through the guy's explainer voice because i am thirsty for the content

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 16:54 (four years ago)

lol his voice is so normal compared to most youtubers

lag∞n, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 16:56 (four years ago)

maybe because hes more of a podcaster, obvs podcaster voice is very annoying but its nothing compared to youtubers most of whom sound like a 11 year old reading a book report and/or like theyve never spoken before

lag∞n, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 16:58 (four years ago)

freakin love the democratization of media

lag∞n, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 16:59 (four years ago)

yea ben taylor is good. i dig his pod too. pretty dry but a nice contrast to the normal take culture of big personalities.

Spottie, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 17:00 (four years ago)

nekias is good too.

Spottie, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 17:01 (four years ago)

kind of wild that the all-star center of one of the finals contenders has his own in-depth breakdown in advance of game 1

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUOHyNm6_nA

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 17:09 (four years ago)

you know if dray plays bad and the warriors lose at least one of those tv guys is going to get on him about podcasting

lag∞n, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 17:12 (four years ago)

the warriors fanbase is always mad @ him for doing them, he's not stopping.

Spottie, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 17:12 (four years ago)

lol salute

lag∞n, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 17:13 (four years ago)

stephen a. called dray a pretender in the media business, and dray said that he's "new media" and that stephen a. won't know what hit him, "new media" is the way of the future etc, "you've even got a little new media in you, stephen"

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 17:18 (four years ago)

dray obvs going to be a tv guy when he retires, hes pretty raw right now but hes putting in the work one would think by the time hes ready to do it full time hell be way ahead of most guys

lag∞n, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 17:21 (four years ago)

yeah im sure hes got some coaching hes already gotten better but hes still too longwinded. i find myself jumping 15-30 seconds at a time quite often. works ok for freelancing on a pod but on tv you gotta get to the point real quick-like.

Spottie, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 17:24 (four years ago)

yeah he also doesnt really explain himself hell be like in the playoffs the schemes and preparation change but then doesnt tell you how, needs to lean into the basketball genius aspect of his personality and away from the being riled up

lag∞n, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 17:28 (four years ago)

he stays pretty even on his pod i think. probably good he's not getting in the weeds before a finals matchup lol. he usually gets deeper after the fact.

Spottie, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 17:30 (four years ago)

i want to know the secrets

lag∞n, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 17:30 (four years ago)

even on the pod hes still got a omg u guys this is so crazy sort of thing going on a lot of the time

lag∞n, Wednesday, 1 June 2022 17:31 (four years ago)

hes def a bit rough and learning the ropes. but yeah by the time he retires he'll be a well oiled machine, for better or worse.
