for some reason whenever he says it he sounds like a guy at a bar in daytona beach on spring break who is 15 years older than everyone else there and asking college girls if they like to party

I complain about Barton but it is kind of unfortunate that he has embarrassed himself so much down the stretch of this season. If the team was healthy he would just be playing 20mpg and it wouldn’t be so glaring or pivotal
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 22 April 2022 06:12 (four years ago)
it's too bad they don't have a second good player

hollinger:
Through 20 playoff games, the league is averaging 24.0 foul calls per 100 possessions and 25.8 free-throw attempts per 100. To put that number in perspective, the foulingest team in the league in the regular season, Detroit, only committed 22.2 fouls per 100 possessions. And the most free-throw happy team, New York, only earned 25.0 free-throw attempts per 100. Basically, every playoff game now feels like a regular-season game from the James Harden-era Rockets.
...
So it’s true that fouling goes up in the playoffs every year, reliably, with basically no exceptions.
But not like this. The extent of the increase is usually much smaller. Over the past 20 postseasons, the difference has ranged from a 16.3 percent jump in 2010 to a mere 2.5 percent in 2016; last season’s postseason saw FTr increase by just 3.6 percent, and we haven’t had a double-digit increase since 2013.
Seen that way, the 21.0 percent jump in FTr is unprecedented; the average increase is only 8.7 percent. Even relative to a normal playoffs, we’re seeing about four extra free throws over the course of a game. The last time we had a playoff free-throw bump of a magnitude this large was in 2010, and it still wasn’t quite as large as the one we’ve seen in 2020. Here are how the last two decades look, for your entertainment
bad
― lag∞n, Friday, 22 April 2022 14:58 (four years ago)
on the other hand
In researching free-throw rates, I was fairly shocked to discover the FTr in these playoffs is still actually lower than every regular season from 2003 to 2011. The changes have been slow and insidious, with the needle often moving just a percentage point or two each year, but the pace-and-space era has shoved the league in such a free-flowing direction that even with a gigantic jump in FTr, like we’ve seen so far in these playoffs, it still pales next to the games we saw just a decade ago.

The end of the dubs nuggs game was unbearable for a while there. Just trading FTs every possession.

it was prob a minor tear. usually with those you can come back pretty fast. quick scope n scrape and you're good to go. some dudes used to come back in 2-3 weeks with those.
― jammin on the dud (Spottie), Friday, 22 April 2022 16:48 (four years ago)
yeah its not uncommon if everything goes well but its also not uncommon for everything to not, would be nice for the celtics to win game three and hold him out until the second round
― lag∞n, Friday, 22 April 2022 16:54 (four years ago)
yeah why not just hold him out of the first round it doesn't seem like they're going to need him
― J0rdan S., Friday, 22 April 2022 16:56 (four years ago)
first two games were close, guess well see how ready the nets are to pack it in tho
― lag∞n, Friday, 22 April 2022 16:57 (four years ago)
might be nice to get him a little burn before the next round i guess
― lag∞n, Friday, 22 April 2022 17:00 (four years ago)

― Tracer Hand, Friday, 22 April 2022 17:19 (four years ago)
