agreed. it’s a long time since the regular season has meant much anyways

Pretty close to waving the white flag and accepting shorter seasons. You could change the rules to cause less wear and tear on players but we can’t trust refs to stick to it

― Matt Armstrong, Thursday, April 21, 2022 10:43 AM (six minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

what ideas are you thinking for rule changes?

jammin on the dud (Spottie), Thursday, 21 April 2022 17:51 (four years ago)

My theory is that the ultra-competitive nature of sports keeps driving all the participants closer and closer to the limits of what a human body can do and when you spend so much time at the very edge of performance the margin of safety disappears. The other big factor is sitting players with injuries that they used to play through because the capital investment they represent is vastly larger than it was back when a $1 million contract was superstar pay.

Middleton out 3-4 weeks, not sure they can beat Boston without him

frogbs, Thursday, 21 April 2022 17:57 (four years ago)

regular season being 82 games in a fairly low variance sport has always been crazy

i know its something thats hard to go in reverse on but it has to happen eventually. teams currently get what, 15 back to backs? just cutting enough to get rid of those would go a long way

ciderpress, Thursday, 21 April 2022 18:09 (four years ago)

you’d have to demonstrate that there are more injuries in the playoffs now than there’s ever been and that those injuries were related to wear and tear as opposed to bad luck and/or the physical more demanding nature of the playoffs in general. my guess is that there is minimal correlation. if anything we’re in the period of least intensive regular season play in history

J0rdan S., Thursday, 21 April 2022 18:24 (four years ago)

there probably aren't because teams are resting their players in the regular season more to compensate

i actually wonder if guys trying to ramp up and play really hard after coasting is part of the issue

call all destroyer, Thursday, 21 April 2022 18:39 (four years ago)

maybe? feel like the real “issue” is that guys play harder and for longer in the playoffs and they don’t take any games off, not sure how you can legislate that out of the game, nor would you want to. it is what it is

J0rdan S., Thursday, 21 April 2022 18:42 (four years ago)

im interested in ways to make regular season a bit more meaningful too even just small things like reseeding the 2nd round of the offs would make it a little more favorable for the higher seeds on average

ciderpress, Thursday, 21 April 2022 18:51 (four years ago)

This is my basic theory, plus muscles get stronger, players get bigger, so the force involved is greater than ever, but bones and ligaments don’t necessarily get stronger.

way more player movement/motion too

jammin on the dud (Spottie), Thursday, 21 April 2022 19:04 (four years ago)

yeah the current style of play is extremely taxing

lag∞n, Thursday, 21 April 2022 19:08 (four years ago)

a lot of the smart heads think the current style of play is actually tougher on bodies than before on a per-minute basis, bigs having to run players of the 3 point line, all the movement etc, on the other hand players play way fewer minutes than in older days

k3vin k., Thursday, 21 April 2022 22:07 (four years ago)

baby men zion and simmons should only be allowed to return if they promise to box each other after the season ends

frogbs, Friday, 22 April 2022 01:16 (four years ago)

i think we can safely say the grizz have their hands full in this series

J0rdan S., Friday, 22 April 2022 01:34 (four years ago)

tho i do think the t wolves might wanna hold onto this lead…

J0rdan S., Friday, 22 April 2022 01:35 (four years ago)

if josh green finds a consistent shot he’s gonna be a good player for the mavs. he is feisty on defense

J0rdan S., Friday, 22 April 2022 01:38 (four years ago)

lag∞n, Friday, 22 April 2022 01:41 (four years ago)

lag∞n, Friday, 22 April 2022 01:52 (four years ago)

J0rdan S., Friday, 22 April 2022 02:21 (four years ago)

mavs bench players were 10/14 from 3 in that half

call all destroyer, Friday, 22 April 2022 02:21 (four years ago)

i can’t believe i posted that we could “safely” say the grizzlies had their hands full in this series immediately before the wolves allowed a 21-0 run to leading to one of the worst losses imaginable

J0rdan S., Friday, 22 April 2022 02:22 (four years ago)

lol

lag∞n, Friday, 22 April 2022 02:23 (four years ago)

Brutal loss that you can almost blame fully on the coaching
