this is kinda like when a pitcher intentionally beans a hitter

the hornets gave up 144 to the heat tonight (second most ever in heat history) including 23 threes (new heat record), in what was ostensibly an important game for the hornets. that team seems very far away from even being halfway decent defensively, i feel like they need to fire their coach and find their version of jason kidd bcuz when you're committed to putting lamelo, rozier and bridges out there you prob need a coach who can scheme something up

well this part does kinda seem like his fault.

i'm not saying he's a bad coach in fact he seems like a pretty good coach but they need to find someone who can coach defense better than him because their main guys are what they are

They need some front court roster upgrades first and foremost

basically once they traded derrick white for josh richardson, a 1RP and a pick swap in 2028, josh's 3-point shitting went fuego and he became the bench vet the spurs have needed all season. dejounte started averaging something like 25-8-9 and keldon johnson is a legit second option now. the vibes are quite decent, 14-10 since the trade deadline.

lamelo is good the combo of scoring and playmaking could be pretty unstoppable

feel like that combo despite evidence maybe cause its rare is not really appreciated they way it should be

trae is really good he needs to find a way to not be the worst defender in the league tho which is gonna be tough cause he just so small and i do think hes prob also gonna always have problems vs playoff defense for that same reason

frank van vleet is small. its all about being in good position and not being lazy. trae is generally just very lazy on defense, hits a screen and dies on it, etc.

"fred" van vleet is really strong hes prob 40lbs heavier than trae

but i mean yeah trae should play better D too, tho it might not help that much, or it might not be worth it from an energy expenditure perspective, would be cool for atlanta if they had another guy who could dribble score and so forth

trae's actually showed a lot more effort on D this year, but yeah the physical limitations are what they are. he's really having an incredible season and it's a shame people don't get to watch him more

i would think steph would be a better model than fvv for trae to look to as a model for where he needs to go defensively. of course as you said lagoon steph has benefited from getting to conserve energy playing with other great players
