spida trade incoming, who's putting up the most to get him?

class project pat (m bison), Sunday, 3 April 2022 18:36 (four years ago)

wouldnt be surprised if they try to appease him by moving gobert

lag∞n, Sunday, 3 April 2022 18:45 (four years ago)

gobert wants to be there and donovan doesnt, pretty easy decision

jammin on the dud (Spottie), Sunday, 3 April 2022 18:46 (four years ago)

yeah but gobert is bad and mitchell is good

lag∞n, Sunday, 3 April 2022 18:53 (four years ago)

yeah i mean if mitchell demands a trade there is prob no point in trying to force him to be there, ultimately. but i also think if you can still get value for gobert on that deal he’s on they should seriously consider that, irrespective of whatever else. i think tim mcmahon has said a few times that if you trade one you might as well trade the other and prob anything else of value on that team and just fully rebuild. but they seem like a franchise that will never want to tear it down that severely

J0rdan S., Sunday, 3 April 2022 18:57 (four years ago)

idk i think danny ainge would be happy to have 16 draft picks over 4 years or whatever it ends up being

call all destroyer, Sunday, 3 April 2022 19:03 (four years ago)

yeah maybe he could convince the owner. but i feel like for a small market franchise that basically has like one stretch of being bad in the last 40 years it might be a tough sell to completely tear apart a good team. it doesn’t seem like anyone has a read yet on what the owner would wanna do

J0rdan S., Sunday, 3 April 2022 19:10 (four years ago)

in a vacuum if you can move off that gobert contract you should imo

lag∞n, Sunday, 3 April 2022 19:14 (four years ago)

mcmahon also said dallas would be very aggressive if gobert were available

call all destroyer, Sunday, 3 April 2022 19:15 (four years ago)

wld prob be a better situation for him

lag∞n, Sunday, 3 April 2022 19:22 (four years ago)

wonder how big dwyane wades bonus will be if he gets mitchell to finish his contract there.

Trae’s really having a great season

Heez, Sunday, 3 April 2022 21:09 (four years ago)

the gobert to dallas stuff worries me. i get in theory why they would be interested in him & just in general there’s only so many all stars who shake loose. but i feel like they’ve found a pretty good style of playing right now with smaller mobile bigs & it would be a bit odd to me if they went that hard after a guy like gobert. it’s not like he isn’t mobile but it kind of feels like repeating the sins of the zinger trade

J0rdan S., Sunday, 3 April 2022 22:00 (four years ago)

it worries me based on the size of the contract and age of the player more than anything. he's a much better fit than zinger, as mcmahon said his love language is lobs and he would get a ton of them while providing a baseline level of defense that would make them an extremely low-variance regular season team. gobert defense + luka offense is going to be a top-4 seed way more often than not.

but he's older than you would want and he makes a fortune and i tend to agree that if they can afford to be patient something better will shake loose.

call all destroyer, Monday, 4 April 2022 01:19 (four years ago)

i like the way they play defense right now, they have multiple guys in kleiba and powell (and even finney smith) who can guard wings and play center. getting gobert totally changes your defense and maybe that's worth it but maybe you get to the playoffs and your defense breaks down. mcmahon was saying that gobert is more mobile than ppl give him credit for, but you're not playing a switch heavy, any guy can guard any guy style w/ him. and the other thing is that yeah he's a great lob catcher but in last playoffs his offense sucked bcuz he can't do anything w/ the ball and you can just stick a wing on him

J0rdan S., Monday, 4 April 2022 02:46 (four years ago)

if i were them i'd much rather go for mitchell. dinwiddie has showed that if they have two scoring guards (along w/ brunson) to go w/ luka they can be very dangerous. they can play them all together but also have guys to sustain the offense a bit when luka rests. maybe a guy like mitchell just couldn't abide by playing w/ luka and if you want to acquire a second "star" it has to be someone who is cool w/ not having the ball in his hands, in which case you're gonna be looking at bigs. but i'd try and find a jordan clarkson, tyler herro type sixth man bcuz i'm not sure how reliable dinwiddie will be in the long run, but that kind of player seems important to them now

J0rdan S., Monday, 4 April 2022 02:52 (four years ago)

the reporting about mitchell has been pretty clear, he wants to be the main guy in a bigger marker

oladipo scored 21 on 7-11 shooting tonight & did some real basketball moves that i haven’t really seen from him since he came back. basically his first game not looking outright bad

i think he's much closer to the DNP-CDs he had been getting before tonight where they had a few guys sitting. but if he can shoot threes in the mid 30s he might useful

p good

Jokic last 7 games:

33.1 PPG
14.4 RPG
7.7 APG
2.1 SPG
70.6 FG%

18.6% from three this year

one hopes the number of attempts were 0.5 per game or less

It was 1.8 attempts per game, alas.

From '17-'19 he was like .335 on 3 attempts per game.

Giannis Antetokounmpo vs Top 10 Defenses This Season

• 10.9 RPG
• 4.9 APG

hes at 30-11.6-5.8 63ts% overall, seems kinda like what you would expect vs good defense idk maybe a lil bit more

or maybe not

idk, combination of a reasonably small sample size with not that big of a drop off, that seems like there's not much there. those #s for giannis still look pretty good to me. although i guess the mvp race is so tight there is bound to be lots of hair splitting

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Thursday, 7 April 2022 14:55 (four years ago)

feel like from an understanding giannis predicting playoff performance and so forth perspective also there might be more in those numbers, if you drilled down you might be able to find where he really struggles in a way that maybe the other top guys dont, his game is maybe not quite as resilient as the others

lag∞n, Thursday, 7 April 2022 15:04 (four years ago)

and i would guess those numbers are statistically significant tho it would be good to see them for multiple seasons

lag∞n, Thursday, 7 April 2022 15:06 (four years ago)

from a playoff perspective if teams are able to bother him you could see a bigger effect than those numbers as those are just the top 3rd of defenses not particularly well prepared, and certainly when looking at the giannis era the bucks offense has often struggled in the playoffs, so i think that it all kinda makes sense, but then on the other hand the lesser version of giannis is still really good

lag∞n, Thursday, 7 April 2022 15:10 (four years ago)

I kind of think Embiid “deserves” an MVP, but he’s also kind of whining about it and that’s unbecoming.

reassessing life after bookmarking a Will Smith thread (PBKR), Thursday, 7 April 2022 16:30 (four years ago)

its true that hes the logical choice according to the internal mvp logic, but on the other hand hes kind of a lil bitch

lag∞n, Thursday, 7 April 2022 16:32 (four years ago)

giannis averaged 30-13-5 on 57% shooting in the playoffs last year i just have real trouble worrying about what level his production is going to be at

J0rdan S., Thursday, 7 April 2022 17:32 (four years ago)

i mean you dont have to if you dont want to

lag∞n, Thursday, 7 April 2022 17:34 (four years ago)

it's also worth noting the bucks had the best defensive rating in the playoffs last year by a full point and it has always felt to me like the question in any series they play is "how will the opponent score on them?" not "how will they score on the opponent?". the nets are the one team that kind of breaks that model simply bcuz of KD but how the bucks or any team is gonna score on the nets is equally not even a question worth asking. but if the bucks face the celtics in round 2 and/or the heat in the east finals the no 1 thing for me above anything is, can either of those teams actually score enough points to beat the bucks 4 times? any issues w/ the bucks offense, giannis etc is secondary for me

J0rdan S., Thursday, 7 April 2022 17:36 (four years ago)

their defense has not been good this year, will be interesting to see if they can flip the switch, obvs a lot of reason to believe they can just based on having maybe the best defender in the league another elite guy and a very good guy, big question mark is prob how on point brook lopez will be after missing the whole year from back surgery, obvs if you were a fan of theirs youd rather have seen them already play good D

lag∞n, Thursday, 7 April 2022 17:44 (four years ago)

also obvs they have played great d before with the same main guys, but one thing we should consider is that they might be currently cursed by having grayson allen on their team

lag∞n, Thursday, 7 April 2022 17:48 (four years ago)

brook has looked better than i expected. adding one of the best rim protectors in the league who can also shoot threes is pretty nice

J0rdan S., Thursday, 7 April 2022 18:11 (four years ago)

brooks had a weird career. seemed like he was done a handful of years ago but has sustained a nice role since
