2021-22 NBA "REGULAR" SEASON THREAD

his tenure in houston was a bit more than just the harden trade which btw is prob one of the best trades in NBA history

he traded pat bev, montrez harrell, lou will, sam harrell & a first for CP3 which is prob a trade that both sides were happy with, but even for two years of CP3 was worth it for houston

he traded kyle lowry for a first which was important ammo in the harden trade... great trade for the raptors but also it worked out for houston

he drafted clint capela 24th overall

he signed PJ tucker to a 4/32 deal and eric gordon to a 4/53 deal... both of those were steals. he really did build that harden era squad from scratch

i don't hold the westbrook trade against him that much, i think that was mostly ownership driven. it was 100% clear when he made that trade that he wouldn't be around to clean up the mess

i was critical of how he handled the simmons thing purely from the POV of what's best for the sixers & i was critical of the trade for harden when he made it, so it's not like i think he's a GM god, but his track record is pretty damn solid

believe me if the epitaph of the daryl morey GM career is "he was a good GM who was too loyal to james harden which led to him detonating the futures of two different NBA franchises" i will be the first one in line to laugh at him

yeah his biggest issue is hitching his wagon to harden

xp forgot when morey started in philly those are good moves apologies to daryl, lol yeah was just going to say that being the biggest harden fan in the world has got to count against him, and on a deeper level youve got to think he had a big hand in creating the honestly pretty problematic harden we see today, a guy who doesnt take care of himself never learned to play defense and has forced his way out of two teams in two seasons, the stories of harden entitlement that came out of houston were wild

it's possible that the story of embiid in philly is that he was great but their teams weren't able to get past kawhi and giannis aka two of the top 20 or 25 players ever. it would be a sad fate but is the story of lots of great/memorable NBA teams

also possible something breaks their way & they get to the finals, it's def not out of the question. they're gonna have a shot the next 3 years unless the injury stuff goes the other way on embiid

sometimes its just like that

bron has just switched over from trying for a ring this season to a scoring title and (pretty soon) knocking kareem off the top of the all-time points list. he recently nabbed his 10,000th assist, so that one's in the bag and now he can just chuck away until the end of the season.

what do they say

publicly connecting a ref to tim donaghy is a hilarious thing to do

more or less:

-kogut been at it for 13 years in nba - never refd playoffs
-goes back to 2019 game warriors vs wolves where KD was fouled on a three at the end of the game that would have put him at the line with a chance to tie it ... kogut waived it off and said it was on the ground which it was not. curry then hits the three anyway and directly points at the ref clowning him (a hilarious moment in warriors lore). warriors go on to lose in 2OT. curry and KD get extra spicy in the post game pressers, calling kogut the MVP and such. they both get fined.
-however, draymond gets fined MORE than both of them for tweeting late that night connecting Tim D and Kogut lol
-he refd the warriors four times in 2020 - dray was ejected on the final one
-after that ejection and the rest of that season and the whole NEXT 2021 season... kogut is not assigned to ref the dubs one single time! no other ref was given that type of treatment / didnt ref a team. he refd every team but the warriors.
-hes refd them 7 times this season. he's Td up dray twice before the sunday game here he ejected dray early in the game with a quick whistle. warriors are 4-3 with him as ref this season but in the last 9 games with him as official they are 2-7 against the spread
