my parents were visiting for our kid's birthday this weekend and i watched nets-celts with my dad. he and my mom were big celtics fans in the bird era but have been casuals at best for the past 30 years. my dad asked me to fill him in, and i said that the nba is basically professional wrestling now in terms of storylines, villains, alliances, heel turns, etc. but best of all worlds in that we have the beautiful game at the center of it all. in any case, there is something perfect and emblematic of where we're at that simmons is gonna show for the drama but not even play. why would we allow the possibility of basketball tainting the narrative?

also as Tatum was scorching the 4th, he called to my mom in the other room that it was time to start following the season, gear up for the playoffs, and that she "is going to love the way (Tatum) plays"

idk i think all the 'top players checking out on their team' drama we've had in recent years is bad and lame, we need player vs player and team vs team beefs thats the good stuff

also funny heel stunts like the draymond nut kicking arc from that one playoffs

Ya I am not at all interested in off court drama, give me some on court dramatic story lines instead. There's a reason I haven't paid attn to pro wrestling in 35 years. One of the biggest story lines this season centers around a guy who hasn't played a single minute yet. That's pretty fucking lame.

Philly should invite Kendall Jenner to ring the pregame bell.

i find the bitchy drama pretty funny, but the constant trade demands are for sure a huge bummer

they should find some way to discourage them

otm, i was not endorsing the ben simmons approach. i enjoy the off court drama to a point but in addition to the fact that it should all be building up to actual games, the player movement is like perpetual musical chairs with 50-75% of the top 15 or so players in the league always angling to realign with some other configuration of superstars. storylines would only be enhanced by basketball, esp with continuity of teams and rivalries

I love drama but man seeing that Simmo photo and all the updates on his status and I am so happy not having to deal with that anymore.

i find it hard to get a handle on tatum’s mentality but jaylen brown just seems like a rock solid guy

as far as jayson and jalen go one is fire and one is ice but were not sure which is which

tracer you should listen to tatum's recent appearance on jj redick's podcast. i think it will give you a really good sense of how he thinks and what's important to him.

not sure how reserves are determined there but if its guys who arent in the healthy starting lineup then warp being a cumulative stat would favor players who have gotten a lot of minutes cause of injuries in front of them which with the exception of the suns def looks like whats going on there, granted those are teams that have continued to win with a lot of injuries which would imply they have good benches, but its prob not an apple to apples comparison to teams whos bench has played less cause theyre healthier

kyrie is very good at basketball

even tho they're obv in a better place as a franchise than where they were a few years ago & have some really good players on the roster, still kinda feels like the hornets are on a road to nowhere & i'm not really sure what they do to change that aside from hanging on to lamelo and bridges for dear life and waiting out this current era of the east? they felt exciting earlier in the season but it seems like they're gonna max out at getting the 8th seed and losing 4-1 in round 1 of the playoffs, at best. maybe i'm being too pessimistic about what they might look like next season if they're a bit healthier (hayward in particular) but they're not gonna have high picks & free agency is prob never gonna net them a ton, that front office is gonna need to get creative, which...
