pretty crazy for a guy who averages less than a block a game
No idea if it's a record, but Nikola Jokic having 3 game-saving blocks in the last 6 seconds of games in one season is kind of crazy. Throw in Barton's vs. Minnesota (https://t.co/o3T7UvulZ8) & the Nuggets have 4 as a team. pic.twitter.com/oJa1eUut3P— John Schuhmann (@johnschuhmann) February 13, 2022

derozan another 40 pointer with no 3PA. thats two of those in the last few weeks. only happened a handful of times in the last 5-6 seasons:

Derozan is dictionary definition of "balling out of his goddamn mind" this season and especially of late.

DeRozan has scored at least 35 points while shooting 50% from the field in each of his last six games, tying Wilt Chamberlain for the longest such streak in NBA history.

I came to post about DeRozan...With the usual disclaimer of casual fandom, I was kind of surprised that such a record stood for so long. It doesn't seem that imposing to me; I would have thought Kareem or LeBron, at the very least, would have done that multiple times.

Thanks for the Ayo link, Spottie. Add him to Kawhi and Draymond on my list of guys I saw play some in NCAA and couldn't understand why their draft stock wasn't higher. I just assume nba scouts know better than I do whose game will transfer to next level, plus I don't watch much NCAA so figure I'm just not aware of the guys who get drafted ahead of them.
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 17 February 2022 19:35 (four years ago)
excellent humblebrag
though i hear you, Kawhi was one of those guys who goes in the middle of the first round and all the commentators are in agreement that he's going to be a great player - there's some weird cognitive dissonance about it, like not a lot of explanation of why aren't they getting picked earlier? Other guys I remember in that zone were Caron Butler and Kenneth Faried. Counterpoint is Justise Winslow who definitely had that similar strain of hype

― class project pat (m bison), Sunday, 27 February 2022 19:06 (four years ago)
for sure i mean there’s a reason he only scores 19 ppg. but just in terms of doing stuff like protecting the rim and then taking the ball the entire length of the court and finishing thru contact, at his size there might be only one other guy in the league who does that

http://www.espn.com/nba/statistics/rpm
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 1 March 2022 14:12 (four years ago)
cause it has gobert in the top ten
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 1 March 2022 14:35 (four years ago)
I mean I think gobert is clearly a top 10 player, probably the most underrated player in the league at this point. his impact on the jazz is pretty undeniable
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 1 March 2022 14:42 (four years ago)
i think if you sort by defense you see the issue with basing a stat off plus minus i mean it wants you to believe that the nuggets have 4 of the 16 best defensive players in the NBA, that jokic, looney and capella are all better defensive centers than gobert, that steph curry is a top 20 defender in the league etc. there is prob some degree of accuracy to what it spits out for offense as is true for all advanced stats but the flaws in the overall numbers are pretty obvious bcuz of the defense component i.e. it’s deflating gobert’s impact bcuz they upgraded at back up center by switching out favors for whiteside
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 1 March 2022 15:26 (four years ago)
i’m always saying moritz wagner is the third best offensive center in the NBA tho so me and RPM are aligned there
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 1 March 2022 15:29 (four years ago)
gobert is a bog dumb fraud
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 1 March 2022 15:38 (four years ago)
if you want to put stock in the plus-minus numbers at all, the overall number is going to be a lot more useful than the offense/defense splits. you’re halving the sample sizes for the components and thus there’s gonna be a lot more noise
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 1 March 2022 16:52 (four years ago)
might just be on a heater but dinwiddie last 3 games with the mavs has given them a lot off the bench 20-2-2 on 8-12 shooting 24-4-5 on 10-14 shooting 14–1-9 on 5-11 shooting
