I came to post about DeRozan...With the usual disclaimer of casual fandom, I was kind of surprised that such a record stood for so long. It doesn't seem that imposing to me; I would have thought Kareem or LeBron, at the very least, would have done that multiple times.

Add him to Kawhi and Draymond on my list of guys I saw play some in NCAA and couldn't understand why their draft stock wasn't higher. I just assume nba scouts know better than I do whose game will transfer to next level, plus I don't watch much NCAA so figure I'm just not aware of the guys who get drafted ahead of them.

though i hear you, Kawhi was one of those guys who goes in the middle of the first round and all the commentators are in agreement that he's going to be a great player - there's some weird cognitive dissonance about it, like not a lot of explanation of why aren't they getting picked earlier? Other guys I remember in that zone were Caron Butler and Kenneth Faried. Counterpoint is Justise Winslow who definitely had that similar strain of hype

tbf the spurs have no PFs to speak of and the two bigs they did play were jock landale and zach collins BUT bam was v v v v good

for sure i mean there’s a reason he only scores 19 ppg. but just in terms of doing stuff like protecting the rim and then taking the ball the entire length of the court and finishing thru contact, at his size there might be only one other guy in the league who does that

I mean I think gobert is clearly a top 10 player, probably the most underrated player in the league at this point. his impact on the jazz is pretty undeniable

i think if you sort by defense you see the issue with basing a stat off plus minus i mean it wants you to believe that the nuggets have 4 of the 16 best defensive players in the NBA, that jokic, looney and capella are all better defensive centers than gobert, that steph curry is a top 20 defender in the league etc. there is prob some degree of accuracy to what it spits out for offense as is true for all advanced stats but the flaws in the overall numbers are pretty obvious bcuz of the defense component i.e. it’s deflating gobert’s impact bcuz they upgraded at back up center by switching out favors for whiteside

i’m always saying moritz wagner is the third best offensive center in the NBA tho so me and RPM are aligned there

gobert is a bog dumb fraud

if you want to put stock in the plus-minus numbers at all, the overall number is going to be a lot more useful than the offense/defense splits. you’re halving the sample sizes for the components and thus there’s gonna be a lot more noise

might just be on a heater but dinwiddie last 3 games with the mavs has given them a lot off the bench
