white made some nice plays, enjoying the white era

like right now horf is starting at the 4 and then playing a lot of 5 the rest of the game but what if theis took those 5 minutes and horf plays mostly 4 with grant backing him up, theyve been having so much success with the big starting unit why not do it all the time, and it doesnt make a ton of sense to trade for theis who has a pretty big contract if youre not really planning on playing him

i think there is something to this and i forgot how much money he's making tbh. it is definitely a hedge for when they move on from horf first and foremost IMO, but as you say there's no reason he can't absorb some minutes at the 5 this year and form a solid 4-man rotation along with rob, al, and grant.

he was exactly what i hoped! just knows how to play. i know there are ppl who only look at 3-pt % when they decide who is good but he's much, much, much more dynamic than the current version of josh richardson.

that was a fun game to watch. i only caught the 2nd half but the celtics played some absolutely hellacious defense, just took the nuggets out of everything they were trying to do

aside from 11 pritchard minutes they didnt put anyone out there whos not a plus defender

rob did a really nice job on jokic down the stretch too

he hadnt been guarding him all game and they usually use him as a roamer but he was Ding the mvp up!

yup, he stoned jokic in the post a couple times and taking away that offensive dimension was a big deal. left jokic to either try 3s or distribute to guys who were getting swallowed up by marcus and tatum etc.

feels like they're just figuring out how deadly rob is as a lob threat. probably a product of him being able to play more minutes. this has been a happy time for rob fans (aka all good and decent people)

derek white played out of his mind for awhile there

grant williams starting to look out of his depth on this team? not a bad rebounder i guess

and solid defense.. i mean i guess that’s why he’s there p much

lol now he’s knocking down threes i take it all back

hes a bad rebounder tbh but yeah good D and is hitting 3s like crazy, a 3 and D guy more or less also a smart player i like him! hes gone from being borderline unplayable to a solid bench guy this year not bad

which is pretty huge for the team since they needed him to do that

tatum’s shot really not there for long stretches of this game

yeah smarts been on a tear since he got back from injury, and yeah tatums shot has been bad all year who knows whats going on there but i hope it stops, tatum and brown both still not totally comfortable with the more team oriented way the celtics are trying to play offense but it does seem to be getting better theyre making faster reads moving the ball more but still struggling with how to find their shots within that style, they have some bad habits to overcome with ball stopping but seem to be giving it their best try, if they could get better at moving off ball that would be nice

lol the foul situation at the end is nuts. you’re calling nothing on smart but facu’s foul was even less detectable

and smart had even more egregious flops in this game alone

sighhh it was a good time but beating the MVP with me in attendance was not very nice

joker was killing em in the 1st half but i think their pressure D wore him down by the end there they made him work

when he sat in the 3rd i was like ok they have to win these jokerless minutes bigtime then they didnt and i was like oh no but they ended up pulling it off anyway, for a team that has had so many late game collapses this year it was cool to see them not only not collapse but step up

of course those collapses had a lot to do with personnel and theyre healthy now have new guys different rotations and so forth, they literally cant play the smart shroder backcourt anymore

if i had to guess at the reasoning its that facu got all up in his space fouled him and then marcus just pushed to get him off, overall i like the call no need to issue a tech in crunch time of a close game for something so minor

big rob with his third major impact double double in a row, he's a real problem now

another streaky night from tatum and brown looked off. what was more concerning was a weird run in i think the early 4th quarter when every time down the floor resulted in sort of desperate iso moves, not just brown but even white were just trying to like... i dunno post up and go 1-on-5 against the entire hawks defense, trying to draw fouls, putting up ugly floaters? i mean cmon that's marcus smart's job

was thrilling to see tatum finally heat up and pritchard's defense was actually pretty good for most of his minutes

and yeah i've fallen in love with grant williams again

celtics offense continues to mystify

i think tatum has the slowest release on a three i’ve ever seen. it’s like he’s cranking up the arm of a crane. creeeeeeeak

his shot is idk what youd call it really long like it starts with a super low dip then goes into a two motion with a really high release, he also often especially when open pauses on the dip to gather himself doesnt seem ideal tbh kinda crazy he shoots as well as he does

or at least has shot as well as he has until this season lol

tatum is a great example of how spot up 3-pt shooting and off the dribble 3-pt shooting are completely different skills for a lot of guys, like you'd never say someone who gets off as many stepbacks as he does has a "slow release," but then yeah if you hit him for an open spot up he looks a million times worse than guys who can just catch it in the pocket and launch.

yeah i feel like tatum's shot is really built around it not being blockable by the man guarding him, like it's a very one on one oriented motion. so he has this elongated way of raising it up really high and getting it off over a contesting hand & when there's no one in front of him it all looks kinda unnecessary

i thought that the white-smart-brown-tatum + whoever mix looked kinda nice for the c's yesterday. if white or smart was at all a reliable three point shooter they'd really have something there. but they have nice flexibility off that 4, they can play big or small depending on what makes sense. i could see the argument against the trade insofar as they will give up a decent-ish pick to upgrade a team that still prob has a low ceiling this year but i thought their main 4 looked noticeably better yesterday in terms of fit and style than what they had w/ schroeder. i think it speaks well of brad's GMing just in terms of identifying a player on a different team that works off his core guys even if the price in terms of assets & contracts might've been a tad high

yeah getting white was a home run imo insofar as getting a non star can be a home run, it was a double maybe

idk how far the celtics can go this year but having a great d def gives them a chance to make a run especially considering no one in the east is looking dominant but getting white was for sure more of a long term move
