unclear to me why teams would rather do this than have games postponed? i guess they’d rather take losses now than have a compressed schedule closer to the playoffs? or is the league just outright forcing them to sign guys and keep things going

i think it’s a couple of things—there’s no way to rearrange the schedule so you’d be looking at cancellations and lost revenue. which maybe teams would live with if a 2-week pause or something like that guaranteed and end to this, but it won’t.
