Sources: The Indiana Pacers are moving toward rebuild, receptive to trade talks centered on Caris LeVert and either Domantas Sabonis or Myles Turner.

warriors might want to think about sabonis

cade is heating up

Guys, Cade is here. Cunningham dropped 28/11/5 tonight in DET’s loss to OKC. He played good defense, too.

He’s averaging 17 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists on 42/35/78 over his last 11. Looks like he’s exactly what we expected after a quick adjustment period post-ankle injury. pic.twitter.com/mWpkWd3YI0

exactly what we expected except for shorter

lag∞n, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 18:05 (two years ago) link

seems like hell be very good, especially if they just play him at the 1 then he is quite tall

lag∞n, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 18:05 (two years ago) link

i think turner might be a better fit xps

Spottie, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 18:06 (two years ago) link

idk i think sabonis has the warriors mindtype ie a guy who thinks quick and is generally just an all around skilled basketball player, obvs klay could change things but i dont really believe in the warrios offense even though theyre playing lights out right now if you look at the roster its just not an elite offensive roster talent wise, danger of it falling apart in the offs imo, but with sabonis... and klay could be pretty unstoppable

lag∞n, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 18:13 (two years ago) link

in the minutes that matter the most the warriors are only going to play one big man which is all they've ever done so not sure giving a bunch of stuff up to get another center really makes sense

trading wiseman or kuminga for levert would be interesting tho

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 7 December 2021 18:17 (two years ago) link

I forget, can the Pacers now trade Brogdon or not for the remainder of the year?

all their big men except dray have been... not that good, sabonis is a totally different type of player, his 3pt shooting is pretty rough tho

lag∞n, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 18:24 (two years ago) link

yeah i get his fit with how the warriors want to play but him and draymond together on offense i can't really see

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 18:31 (two years ago) link

their top 7 players in minutes are draymond, steph and then 5 wing players. you're not trading for sabonis to play him 17 mpg which is what looney is playing right now. i think they can upgrade on their roster no doubt but if it's going to be someone w/ legit value like sabonis you have to be able play him 30 mpg and that's not going to happen in their system w/ a big man who isn't draymond

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 7 December 2021 18:33 (two years ago) link

they could stagger him and dray some, if he has to sit sometimes at the end of games so be it, getting a player of that quality for guys who arent really contributing is pretty good, i mean turner and lavert maybe fit better but theyre just not as good, and i dont think makes much sense just extrapolating loonys minutes, i mean loony doesnt play much because hes not that good at basketball

lag∞n, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 18:36 (two years ago) link

fundamentally systems should fit players not the other way around and if you can add a good player then you figure it out, tho him and dray both being bad shooters is a problem def, still sabonis is a legit baller thats the most important thing

lag∞n, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 18:38 (two years ago) link

and maybe as more of a complimentary player sabonis gets good enough 3pt looks that hes fine

lag∞n, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 18:39 (two years ago) link

id say turner and sabonis have similar value, but for completely different reasons and depending on fit. levert... not really sure he's that good honestly.

Spottie, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 18:40 (two years ago) link

i think turner is one of those guys thats exploitable cause most of his value is rim protection so you just go small and pull him away from the basket where he doesnt really move well, he can shoot some but he has a slow release and doesnt have any ability to attack the close out which is pretty defendable for a prepared team, i think hed end up being a disappointment in the playoffs

lag∞n, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 18:43 (two years ago) link

― lag∞n, Tuesday, December 7, 2021 1:38 PM (two minutes ago)

we're going back and forth on a hypothetical that will never happen but "fundamentally systems should fit players" makes sense to me unless your system is pairing the best defensive player in the nba with the best offensive player in the nba and then surrounding them with a bunch of competent to good guard and wing role players. it's basically ideal roster construction. upsetting that system to add kevin durant makes sense to me, to add sabonis i don't agree.

i do think tho that the warriors should be looking to upgrade at guard/wing in the event that wiggins turns into a pumpkin, porter or iggy get hurt/look old, poole and lee have first time playoff struggles etc. no argument there. but their system is in place for a reason.

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 7 December 2021 18:45 (two years ago) link

yah its prob all moot anyway joey lightyears is too prideful and wont be trading his draftees

Spottie, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 18:48 (two years ago) link

i mean if they can get someone who is as good as sabonis but fits better by all means, but can they? prob not, but they def should be looking to turn a young guy or two into a good player by the trade deadline, and if they cant find one thats better they should start thinking about our good friend domantas, i think he would absolutely thrive on the warriors

lag∞n, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 18:48 (two years ago) link

if the warriors are really going to try to develop the next gen while their core still has gas in the tank, well then im getting mad about that, you gotta push all in on steph and the boys

lag∞n, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 18:50 (two years ago) link

also sabonis is only 25, he can stick around

lag∞n, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 18:51 (two years ago) link

well if sabonis was a FA next year and basically a rental and the warriors could get him for like moses moody and that's it then i think i'd buy the argument of plugging him in there as like a super scoring boost for them even if he's rarely if ever playing 4th quarter minutes. but he has 2 years left on his deal which means any team trading for him will have to give up multiple real things so i just don't see how that makes sense for them. they should be taking all that stuff and trying to find a guard or wing -- they need to be after the lillards, CJs, siakams etc

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 7 December 2021 18:53 (two years ago) link

i think hes good enough, hed instantly be at least in the running for best fourth best player in the league, that he would earn plenty of minutes to justify the expenditure, depending on how good one thinks wiseman or whoever is

lag∞n, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 18:56 (two years ago) link

i think turner is one of those guys thats exploitable cause most of his value is rim protection so you just go small and pull him away from the basket where he doesnt really move well, he can shoot some but he has a slow release and doesnt have any ability to attack the close out which is pretty defendable for a prepared team, i think hed end up being a disappointment in the playoffs

― lag∞n, Tuesday, December 7, 2021 1:43 PM (nine minutes ago)

it's interesting. he put up 16/11 w/ 4 blocks per game on 59/45 shooting in the bubble playoffs vs the heat, and i distinctly remember him feeling like the only player outside of brogdon giving them anything in that series. but the problem w/ guys like turner, porzingis, gobert etc is that if you can't post up and punish small line ups in the playoffs you're vulnerable to being exploitable and/or benched.

the thing w/ ayton isn't just that he can move his feet on defense, but that he can score around the basket or rebound like a maniac and clean up buckets or get fouled. bam can punish small players on switches or reliably shoot over them from the elbow. etc. so, idk. for the right price if i needed rim protection and shooting on my team i would def take the gamble on turner, but it could very well end up like what you're saying.

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 7 December 2021 18:58 (two years ago) link

one of the tricky things with the dubs making a trade is almost all their money is tied up in guys they dont want to trade, sabonis only makes $18m a year so you can cobble together a deal with young guys and spare parts, but you start getting more than that and they have to send back like half their guys, getting a player as good as him for that price is tough, tho they could also target more of a role player and send less back too, which is prob more likely but id like to see them go for the gusto set up a run for the next couple few years

lag∞n, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 19:02 (two years ago) link

turner def had a great series v the heat but i still dont trust him

*coughing extremely loudly* andrew wiggins

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 7 December 2021 19:04 (two years ago) link

turner is actually good on the perimeter. he covers the pick and roll all the way to the rim. and i'd hesitate to call bam's jumper reliable

micah, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 19:05 (two years ago) link

and maybe as more of a complimentary player sabonis gets good enough 3pt looks that hes fine

― lag∞n, Wednesday, 8 December 2021 5:39 AM

the looks he gets now are wiiiiide open. he just shoots it hella flat

micah, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 19:05 (two years ago) link

yeah i mean wigdog is playing so well for them and who really wants him anyway but its true they could package him with a young guy(s) to swing a big deal

lag∞n, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 19:06 (two years ago) link

theyd want turner as their lob threat/rim runner and to stretch the 5. but also they desperately need rim protection.

Spottie, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 19:06 (two years ago) link

everyone wants a piece of turner so he will probably end up on the hornets or something

micah, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 19:10 (two years ago) link

apparently tj mcconnell is out for the season now. with the east as strong as it is the pacers can get a really good pick without much effort

micah, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 19:20 (two years ago) link

what's up with the other TJ?

Heez, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 19:33 (two years ago) link

stress fracture in his foot. expected back on the floor this season

micah, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 19:36 (two years ago) link

TJ warren will just never be healthy

Spottie, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 19:37 (two years ago) link

probably yeah

Over the span of three different coaches, I'm not sure if Myles has ever successfully completed a rim-running dunk, or even been thrown one. For years, every few games he'll have some insane offensive flash – usually taking it strong off the dribble and finishing hard at the rim – and then back to spot-up 3s. He'd be such a valuable player if he could just develop one or two consistent post-up moves, or just learned to love contact as much as Sabonis. He's still young so there's time, but it's been his single biggest need for a while with no improvement.

Sucks this team could never have Brogden/Levert/Warren/Sabonis/Turner healthy at the same time, since I think that's a dangerous lineup (esp. given defensive improvements from Warren and Sabonis last few years), but it's clearly never going to happen.

ヽ(´ー`)┌ (CompuPost), Tuesday, 7 December 2021 22:44 (two years ago) link

I really do think Warren would have brought that lineup together as a bigtime scorer but it just wasn’t to be
