how i break it down to an extent
― lag∞n, Monday, 25 October 2021 22:55 (four years ago)
yah dwight is prob a top 50 player honestly. but lol at his exclusion
― It's the Final Cluntdiwn (Spottie), Monday, 25 October 2021 23:01 (four years ago)
dwight has a better resume than them both but everyones kind of forgotten about that due to reasons
― lag∞n, Monday, October 25, 2021 6:16 PM (one hour ago) bookmarkflaglink
dwight is easily the most egregious snub, don’t really have an opinion about the 50s wites but the first guy I’d probably leave off is reggie miller
― mens rea activist (k3vin k.), Monday, 25 October 2021 23:19 (four years ago)
they just kept the top 50 from last time so it was really a 25 (26) list of new guys
― lag∞n, Monday, 25 October 2021 23:29 (four years ago)
reggie is v impt for 90s hoop history imo
― class project pat (m bison), Monday, 25 October 2021 23:52 (four years ago)
sure I mean lots of guys are important
― mens rea activist (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 26 October 2021 00:04 (four years ago)
reggie belongs on the list imo if he played in the current era his stats would be crazy. you could make not just the historical figure argument (which i think is important — you can’t tell a history of 90s nba without him, which is true of john starks too but reggie’s skill level rises to a certain level) but also that he was a player ahead of his time who predicted where the game would go
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 26 October 2021 00:09 (four years ago)
he was such an amazing heal too, another guy whos ruined his legacy
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 26 October 2021 00:11 (four years ago)
Reggie hit an absolutely *insane* amount of threes for his era, it’s really hard to believe in retrospect
― Clay, Tuesday, 26 October 2021 00:13 (four years ago)
the og hoister. i really would think much more highly of him had he never broadcasted
― It's the Final Cluntdiwn (Spottie), Tuesday, 26 October 2021 00:14 (four years ago)
prob woulda had a chip or two had the malice @ the palace not happened
― It's the Final Cluntdiwn (Spottie), Tuesday, 26 October 2021 00:16 (four years ago)
isn’t the problem with dwight not just that ppl don’t like him but that his peak was actually pretty short? he was done as an elite player at age 29, for an all time great player to not have any impact into their 30s is pretty rare. does anyone remember what team dwight was on when he was 31 years old? (the hawks). if you go by all star game selections his 8 put him in the 50s on that list — same as dikembemutumbo & vince carter but also steve nash & dave cowens. he prob should’ve been on the 75 list but him falling off a cliff as a player at a time when most elite guys still have 5 years of great basketball left isn’t really anyone else’s fault
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 26 October 2021 00:17 (four years ago)
isn’t that mostly due to injuries though? his back just stopped cooperating iirc
― Clay, Tuesday, 26 October 2021 00:19 (four years ago)
mcgradys another guy like that
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 26 October 2021 00:24 (four years ago)
well dwight never really developed any actual skills and once him posting up stopped becoming even halfway useful he kinda became a zero on offense. he’s definitely one of the 75 best athletes in NBA history. probably one of the 75 best players too. but he was a beast for only like 5-6 years when he was at his athletic peak. once he left orlando he wasn’t the same, could still get lots of rebounds i guess
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 26 October 2021 00:25 (four years ago)
he's sustained a nice role player role and got a chip.
came outta high school and was pretty quickly impactful, not the shortest of peaks but for sure robbed of prime years with the back injury

i think i just expected him to be out of the league soon after his hawks stint?
― It's the Final Cluntdiwn (Spottie), Tuesday, 26 October 2021 00:30 (four years ago)
hoping he will tear apart the lakers from the inside this time tho.
― It's the Final Cluntdiwn (Spottie), Tuesday, 26 October 2021 00:31 (four years ago)
if you go by all star game selections his 8 put him in the 50s on that list
5 of which are first team, which puts him in the 20s, even more impressive considering there’s only 1 center spot. an open and shut case if you ask me
I see the argument for reggie for sure but the nature of a list like this is lots of good and important players are going to be left off. as I alluded to the real answer for who to leave off would be some guy from the 50s or whatever but it’s so hard to compare those early guys to guys from today. apparently the voters felt the same way because everyone seemed to just grandfather the old list in
other than dwight tho there probably isn’t an obvious snub out of current players. simmons voted for luka and jokic, which you can definitely make the case for either way. lowe apparently voted for iguodala, which…
― mens rea activist (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 26 October 2021 00:36 (four years ago)
they literally grandfathered the old list in, only voted on the new guys

no apparently they actually voted for all 75 and that’s just the way it turned out!
― mens rea activist (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 26 October 2021 00:40 (four years ago)
not what i read, also its not possible
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 26 October 2021 00:40 (four years ago)
where u read that, simmons said on his pod the thing I said
― mens rea activist (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 26 October 2021 00:42 (four years ago)
I mean the thing you’re saying would make way more sense
i dont remember maybe they said it on tnt but anyway theres no way for a revote to turn out exactly the same just not feasible
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 26 October 2021 00:43 (four years ago)
maybe simmons thought they were supposed to vote on them all and they just ignored him lol
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 26 October 2021 00:44 (four years ago)
― lag∞n, Monday, October 25, 2021 8:43 PM (one minute ago) bookmarkflaglink
the one way I could see it making sense is a bunch of guys just not knowing how to compare the eras and just voting for basically all of them
― mens rea activist (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 26 October 2021 00:47 (four years ago)
maybe there was something on the ballot that made it easy to do that idk
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 26 October 2021 00:49 (four years ago)
I think people showed screenshots etc and there was basically a drop down menu of every player in league history
― mens rea activist (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 26 October 2021 00:50 (four years ago)
you know I’m actually surprised more players like klay and kyrie didn’t make it given the composition of voters was so weighted toward current players, I bet there was some pitchfork ish where the league fudged with the results after
― mens rea activist (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 26 October 2021 00:51 (four years ago)
giannis FT shooting this year:

hes not taking 15 seconds to shoot them either
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 26 October 2021 01:57 (four years ago)
yeah apparently he has a whole new routine
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 26 October 2021 02:17 (four years ago)
Maybe so but friendly reminder that Giannis is a 72% career free throw shooter. Those #s are exactly in line. It’s just in the playoffs where he falls off
― Lavator Shemmelpennick, Tuesday, 26 October 2021 02:30 (four years ago)
he's down from well over 10 seconds to 3 seconds or so, there's no reason this can't stick playoffs or not
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 26 October 2021 02:57 (four years ago)
he was also below 70% each of the last two seasons so this would be an improvement
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 26 October 2021 03:55 (four years ago)
Maybe he unlocked something in the finals
― It's the Final Cluntdiwn (Spottie), Tuesday, 26 October 2021 05:07 (four years ago)
dwight's last two all-nba selections were from when he was on the lakers and the rockets, there's no way he was one of the best fifteen players in the league those seasons. players like andre drummond and andrew bynum were also on all-nba teams just for being centers who were half-decent.
― symsymsym, Tuesday, 26 October 2021 05:24 (four years ago)
all those sentences are reasonable in isolation, but the list of guys who have made 5 1st team all nba are like a really small number of guys, a real exclusive bunch
― mens rea activist (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 26 October 2021 05:48 (four years ago)
yeah like despite dwight having a disappointing career relative to expectations he's definitely one of the 75 best nba players ever.you just wish he had maximized his talent (like say damian lillard did).

76ers looking up. anything they can get going forward from embiid and pg will just be icing
― Spottie, Tuesday, 28 October 2025 18:41 (seven months ago)
allow me to be the wet blanked bcuz they still seem pretty screwed to me. they've scraped out some wins against mediocre east teams which i guess can be a consistent thing this season but when you're getting zero or actively harmful play from $100 million dollars in salary and have no way to change that for 2-3 seasons well, that bill is going to come due
― slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 28 October 2025 18:47 (seven months ago)
yeah but often teams in this situation dont have any young guns to be excited about and build around.
― Spottie, Tuesday, 28 October 2025 18:49 (seven months ago)
obv sixers fans should be excited about edgecombe but they're in the honeymoon period with this build right now, there are no expectations to win and nobody is scheming to exploit their size in the backcourt, they're not having to work mccain into the fold either, they aren't in a playoff series getting pounded on switches every time down the court etc drink it in while you can
― slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 28 October 2025 18:53 (seven months ago)
the sixers would be wise to follow the blazer's example of buying out ayton's contract and let embiid drift away in a golden life raft. they're in a rebuild whether they admit it or not.
― more difficult than I look (Aimless), Tuesday, 28 October 2025 18:55 (seven months ago)
um, he has 4 years left on his contract
― slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 28 October 2025 18:58 (seven months ago)
that contract is still one of the craziest of all time
― Spottie, Tuesday, 28 October 2025 18:59 (seven months ago)
to quote a very acute and accurate observation: "when you're getting zero or actively harmful play from $100 million dollars in salary and have no way to change that for 2-3 seasons well, that bill is going to come due"
― more difficult than I look (Aimless), Tuesday, 28 October 2025 19:04 (seven months ago)
pretty weird sitch to have a couple really good young players and a couple of deeply underwater multi year vet contracts at the same time
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 28 October 2025 19:09 (seven months ago)
if i was a sixers fan i'd be willing to hold out hope that PG can bounce back enough to be moved at the deadline, i don't think it's completely crazy but also probably not likely
― slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 28 October 2025 19:16 (seven months ago)
hes 35 with two more years left on his deal after this season and hes barely seen the court since hes been a sixer, not impossible that someone takes him off their hands but probably theyre just eating that contract
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 28 October 2025 19:23 (seven months ago)
it would be pretty hilarious if they stretched embiid
― comrade jhøsh (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 28 October 2025 19:38 (seven months ago)
It's not earth-shattering, but OKC are getting some good production out of second-year player Ajay Mitchell. Wouldn't be 4-0 without him,
18.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists so far.
Good value out of a second-rounder who's locked up for three years at less than $3M/year.
― aphoristical, Tuesday, 28 October 2025 21:42 (seven months ago)
obv their top-level star power is elite, but okc's ability to scout and develop at all levels is really impressive. late 1st, 2nd round, undrafted, etc. they just find guys.

OKC drafted pretty terribly between Harden and the 2020s rebuild, albeit often with low picks.
But they've got some nice pieces recently - Aaron Wiggins at #55 too.

random first week thought but last year shai and giannis were 1-2 in ppg. they're both in the top 5 this year, along with maxey (first), reaves (fourth) and lauri (fifth). for obv reasons i assume reaves will drop out of the race but maxey and lauri are both on teams where their scoring is badly needed and should be largely unimpeded + both dudes are still in a stage of their careers where they'd be motivated to try and win the scoring title, i could see either of them making a real push all year. lauri's stats in particular are kinda crazy so far
― slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 30 October 2025 21:39 (seven months ago)
wemby will prob be in the mix
― lag∞n, Thursday, 30 October 2025 21:44 (seven months ago)
lauri idk dont think he has enough self creation to do it
― lag∞n, Thursday, 30 October 2025 21:45 (seven months ago)
maxey has PG coming back, mccain coming back, and (semi-likely) more minutes/shots going to embiid in the future. could still do it cos all those guys seem to always been hurt. lauri maybe a more realistic shot but not sure if he's wired that way.
― Spottie, Thursday, 30 October 2025 21:47 (seven months ago)
jokic will also likely not push for the top 5 this year, which will help. the offense has been de-emphasizing his postups, which tbf are very efficient but probably contribute to a lot of wear and tear over the year, and the result so far has been more connectedness and the #1 offense in the league
