yah dwight is prob a top 50 player honestly. but lol at his exclusion

dwight is easily the most egregious snub, don’t really have an opinion about the 50s wites but the first guy I’d probably leave off is reggie miller

they just kept the top 50 from last time so it was really a 25 (26) list of new guys

reggie is v impt for 90s hoop history imo

reggie belongs on the list imo if he played in the current era his stats would be crazy. you could make not just the historical figure argument (which i think is important — you can’t tell a history of 90s nba without him, which is true of john starks too but reggie’s skill level rises to a certain level) but also that he was a player ahead of his time who predicted where the game would go

he was such an amazing heal too, another guy whos ruined his legacy

isn’t the problem with dwight not just that ppl don’t like him but that his peak was actually pretty short? he was done as an elite player at age 29, for an all time great player to not have any impact into their 30s is pretty rare. does anyone remember what team dwight was on when he was 31 years old? (the hawks). if you go by all star game selections his 8 put him in the 50s on that list — same as dikembe
mutumbo & vince carter but also steve nash & dave cowens. he prob should’ve been on the 75 list but him falling off a cliff as a player at a time when most elite guys still have 5 years of great basketball left isn’t really anyone else’s fault

well dwight never really developed any actual skills and once him posting up stopped becoming even halfway useful he kinda became a zero on offense. he’s definitely one of the 75 best athletes in NBA history. probably one of the 75 best players too. but he was a beast for only like 5-6 years when he was at his athletic peak. once he left orlando he wasn’t the same, could still get lots of rebounds i guess

he's sustained a nice role player role and got a chip.

came outta high school and was pretty quickly impactful, not the shortest of peaks but for sure robbed of prime years with the back injury

the one way I could see it making sense is a bunch of guys just not knowing how to compare the eras and just voting for basically all of them

maybe there was something on the ballot that made it easy to do that idk

I think people showed screenshots etc and there was basically a drop down menu of every player in league history

Maybe so but friendly reminder that Giannis is a 72% career free throw shooter. Those #s are exactly in line. It’s just in the playoffs where he falls off

he's down from well over 10 seconds to 3 seconds or so, there's no reason this can't stick playoffs or not

dwight's last two all-nba selections were from when he was on the lakers and the rockets, there's no way he was one of the best fifteen players in the league those seasons. players like andre drummond and andrew bynum were also on all-nba teams just for being centers who were half-decent.

all those sentences are reasonable in isolation, but the list of guys who have made 5 1st team all nba are like a really small number of guys, a real exclusive bunch

yeah like despite dwight having a disappointing career relative to expectations he's definitely one of the 75 best nba players ever.you just wish he had maximized his talent (like say damian lillard did).

he looks really good, unclear if he has primary creator stuff but even if hes more of a second banana he has such an all around game hell still be really good

random first week thought but last year shai and giannis were 1-2 in ppg. they're both in the top 5 this year, along with maxey (first), reaves (fourth) and lauri (fifth). for obv reasons i assume reaves will drop out of the race but maxey and lauri are both on teams where their scoring is badly needed and should be largely unimpeded + both dudes are still in a stage of their careers where they'd be motivated to try and win the scoring title, i could see either of them making a real push all year. lauri's stats in particular are kinda crazy so far

maxey has PG coming back, mccain coming back, and (semi-likely) more minutes/shots going to embiid in the future. could still do it cos all those guys seem to always been hurt. lauri maybe a more realistic shot but not sure if he's wired that way.

jokic will also likely not push for the top 5 this year, which will help. the offense has been de-emphasizing his postups, which tbf are very efficient but probably contribute to a lot of wear and tear over the year, and the result so far has been more connectedness and the #1 offense in the league
