there's some examples of guys like anthony davis and zion who weren't no 1 picks heading into the draft who he really blew up in one season, markelle fultz would be another. but for the vast majority of these kids i don't think it's really beneficial, you're gonna get highly scrutinized in a situation that may or may not be advantageous to you. even someone like lonzo who had a great year at UCLA which got him into the top 2 of the draft, i'm not sure it actually benefited him as a player beyond that, he had to adjust his game once he got into the league and it took him like 3+ years before he was actually good and understood his role.

beyond the money G league ignite offers i feel like the better part is being put on a team where there is no false pretense about winning, or fitting in, or doing anything beyond being put in the best position to showcase yourself as a prospect. like lamelo got criticized for how he played w/ a bunch of australian dudes who will never sniff the NBA, how is that helping anyone really

J0rdan S., Thursday, 21 October 2021 17:28 (four years ago)

i think the age rule changes to 18 starting next draft right?

It's the Final Cluntdiwn (Spottie), Thursday, 21 October 2021 17:32 (four years ago)

i don't think that's actually gone through

J0rdan S., Thursday, 21 October 2021 17:46 (four years ago)

ah ok

It's the Final Cluntdiwn (Spottie), Thursday, 21 October 2021 17:47 (four years ago)

yeah still TBD

call all destroyer, Thursday, 21 October 2021 17:48 (four years ago)

but yeah that first year of weirdness probably does more harm than good for most of the best prospects. lamelo made like 100k in australia, prob coulda made more at a D1 school lol

It's the Final Cluntdiwn (Spottie), Thursday, 21 October 2021 17:49 (four years ago)

tbh given what the league is doing w/ ignite it doesn't seem like they have much motivation to change the rule and i don't think the players union will be particularly motivated to do it either

J0rdan S., Thursday, 21 October 2021 17:50 (four years ago)

if lamelo had gone to a D1 school it would've been a complete circus and he prob wouldn't have been able to play like he did in australia which is more like how he's playing in the NBA, i don't think that really would've helped him at all

J0rdan S., Thursday, 21 October 2021 17:51 (four years ago)

prob woulda gone to a mid major and just hoisted like mad

It's the Final Cluntdiwn (Spottie), Thursday, 21 October 2021 17:53 (four years ago)

he prob would've just gone to UCLA which actually made the final four but getting to the championship game and having big games in the tournament didn't do anything to help jalen suggs draft stock

J0rdan S., Thursday, 21 October 2021 17:56 (four years ago)

Ben Simmons described back tightness to several Sixers staff members and was briefly treated for it today, sources tell ESPN.

oh damn feel better soon ben

lag∞n, Thursday, 21 October 2021 19:02 (four years ago)

Sources: 76ers All-Star Ben Simmons is currently not mentally ready to play for the team and was receiving treatment on his back today due to ramp up process. He will miss Friday’s home opener vs. Nets and is not expected to play for an undetermined period of time.

According to Sources, belief by #Sixers Ben Simmons is faking injury and mental illness. He came in 2day and said he had back stiffness and mentally not ready to play. Mental illness is serious issue and team is livid Simmons went down that road. Team plans to fine him every game

Not an expert at CBA, but this has got to be going to arbitration at some point, right?

All-Star guard Ben Simmons is expected to come early to the 76ers shootaround on Friday morning to discuss his playing status with organizational leadership, sources tell ESPN. Sixers play the Nets on ESPN and team is still hopeful that Simmons will participate in shootaround.

— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) October 21, 2021

woj’s role in this is so ridiculous lmao it’s really like the sixers and ben simmons are in fifth grade together and one side is whispering in woj’s ear so he can run across the playground and relay it to the other side except it’s happening in public on twitter between a bunch of adults

J0rdan S., Thursday, 21 October 2021 20:28 (four years ago)

Sources in the Sixers organization tell me Ben Simmons is a crumb bum.

Hannibal Lecture (PBKR), Thursday, 21 October 2021 20:31 (four years ago)

Daryl Morey on @975TheFanatic: "Would you rather eliminate what people perceive to be a distraction, or would you rather have better playoff odds? I'll take playoff odds...Whatever we have to deal with that helps the Philadelphia 76ers win the title, we'll do it."

— Derek Bodner (@DerekBodnerNBA) October 21, 2021

this the problem with running an organization by just looking at a spreadsheet

J0rdan S., Thursday, 21 October 2021 20:46 (four years ago)

ok!

“If we can trade Ben Simmons for a difference maker, we will do it” - @dmorey to @975TheFanatic

He said fans should be prepared to buckle in “for a very long time” because right now he can only trade Ben for role players.

A very good way to win during Joel's prime is to burn 35 mil every year for four years.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Thursday, 21 October 2021 20:51 (four years ago)

Daryl Morey's definitely has some model that tells him You Can't Win A Championship Without Two Superstars and he's gonna boom his whole franchise rather than trade Ben Simmons for some solid players who would absolutely make the 76ers better.

— Tom Ley (@ToLey88) October 21, 2021

lag∞n, Thursday, 21 October 2021 20:51 (four years ago)

i do think morey is right in that the organization that turned jimmy butler into al horford into danny green can’t really let more talent get out the door.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 21 October 2021 20:57 (four years ago)

if theyre going to hold out they should just pay him and let him be away from the team is how i break it down

lag∞n, Thursday, 21 October 2021 21:03 (four years ago)

correct

J0rdan S., Thursday, 21 October 2021 21:08 (four years ago)

this continual fining doesnt lead anywhere good

lag∞n, Thursday, 21 October 2021 21:09 (four years ago)

Doesn't it save the team a shitload of money without affecting any of the other players at all?

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Thursday, 21 October 2021 21:10 (four years ago)

well what if he decides to perform the minimum effort to not get fined 50% ben simmons isnt helping your cause, or he fakes an injury and you still fine him then youre what dealing with lawyers

lag∞n, Thursday, 21 October 2021 21:11 (four years ago)

not to mention the insane vibes hit the team is taking right now

lag∞n, Thursday, 21 October 2021 21:15 (four years ago)

They should have taken the Spurs deal. If Morey thinks Dejounte is a “role player” that’s his business but he’s about to hear about players who actually are

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 21 October 2021 21:17 (four years ago)

what was the spurs deal

lag∞n, Thursday, 21 October 2021 21:18 (four years ago)

I don't see how sending Simmons home but keeping him on the roster fixes the vibe issues. They'll still get media questions about it until he's gone.

― reggae mike love (polyphonic), Thursday, October 21, 2021 5:10 PM (nine minutes ago)

the team doesn't actually need the money. they're just making a point

J0rdan S., Thursday, 21 October 2021 21:21 (four years ago)

I'm fine with making a point and I'm skeptical Simmons is going to take the floor no matter what the Sixers do.

Text from my buddy in Philly:

"I hope Simmons plays at least one home game."

idk having a weird negative guy at practice cant be great

lag∞n, Thursday, 21 October 2021 21:27 (four years ago)

Morey on his timeline: "You're going to think I'm kidding, I'm not. This could (go on for) 4 years. ... We're in the prime of Joel's career...Either Ben Simmons is playing for us, or we have to get back a difference maker."

— Derek Bodner (@DerekBodnerNBA) October 21, 2021

yeah except ben simmons isn’t playing so now what
